4: New Powers
JACK had no idea what to say. Jamie was the new guardian? What--how--when did--did he die? He was so extremely confused, all he managed to do was stare with his mouth hanging open. "Uh...Jack?" Jamie asked, waiting for a moment before asking him again. "Jack?" What confused Jack the most, though, was the fact that Jamie looked like he was in his late teens.
He squinted at Jamie. "It's only been six weeks since I've seen you," he started walking closer to get a better look at the child who was now only an inch shorter than him, "so why are you so much bigger?"
"Uh, what are you talking about? It's been five years, Jack. I haven't seen you in five years." Jamie seemed just as confused as he was, and maybe a little bit angry too.
"North! What's going on?"
"Jamie is new guardian." He answered in his heavy accent, shrugging in the process. "For him it has been five years...I have no idea what man in moon did to make that work. Just like with Hiccup and Merida; two years have passed for her and three years have passed for him and Astrid."
"Just...What?" Jack needed some sort of logical explanation otherwise his head might explode.
"I do not know, Jack." North said.
"What do you mean you don't know?" He shouted, "How can you not--?"
"Jack! She's waking up!" Tooth called from the top of the stairs.
His heart started pounding. Something was wrong--he could feel it. Without caring to finish his conversation with North and Jamie, he flew up the stairs and down the short hallway to her bedroom. Bunny and Tooth were outside of the door with dismal expressions.
"What is it? What's wrong with her?" His voice cracked and he felt tears pool in his eyes, not quite ready to fall.
"We're not sure," Tooth said quietly. She set her hand on his shoulder and gently yanked him into the room. She shut the door behind him. Jack looked around. Elsa was laying in her bed, Sandy by her side.
Sandy looked up at Jack and nodded. He walked to the door. Before opening it, he showed a few symbols to Jack. Something meaning that he was sorry he couldn't do anything. Another few images appeared after that; a flame and a snowflake colliding then exploding.
Jack shook his head, "I don't understand."
Sandy sighed and left the room.
Jack sauntered over tho the right side of her bed. She was still sleeping. Her hair had changed again. Instead of the chocolate brown he had become used to, it was a vibrant yellow-blonde. Her skin was no longer pale; it was tanned. And her lips were bright red, not the dark pink he grew accustomed to.
He could feel the heat emanating off of her. Just being in the room made him feel like he was melting.
He was still very confused.
Elsa took a deep breath, her eyes fluttering open. And that was what startled Jack. Elsa's eyes weren't even their beautiful blue anymore. In fact, they weren't even natural.
Her eyes...they were bright orange
RAPUNZEL explained to Eugene about her adventure with the guardians before she met him. He was puzzled and she had to admit the she was slightly befuddled as well. "Eugene, I know it sounds crazy but you have to believe me."
His expression softened, "I do believe you...I just don't exactly trust the Easter Kangaroo that shoved me into a sack and kidnapped me!"
Rapunzel chuckled at her husband. "he does that to everyone. He did it to me when I was recruited too."
"Is that supposed to make me feel better?"
She grabbed his hand and moved closer to him. "No. But it should make you feel better to know that they--we are the good guys, and it's our job to help. Not just because they need us to, but because as royalty it's now our duty to."
"Rapunzel!"
She and Eugene walked back into the living room of the suite that belonged to the first five of them. North stood there watching her. "Rapunzel," He started."We...we found another flower, like the one that gave you your healing powers."
"What? How is that possible?" She gasped.
"We need you to make a decision, Dear." Tooth said from the other side of the room. "You can eat the flower and gain your powers back. Or you can not. We understand that you like your new-found freedom, and we don't want to take it away from you by forcing you into anything...Rapunzel, if you choose to eat the flower you will be in just as much danger of people trying to use you as before."
"The choice is up to you. If you don't want to, we understand. We can always find someone else willing to take the risk." North added.
Rapunzel didn't know whether to be angry or scared.
She decided on angry.
Someone else? They wanted someone else? Did they not think she could handle the danger? She dealt with it for eighteen years! How dare they say that they could get someone else to replace her! Oh she was up to it, alright.
"I'll do it."
"Wha--Rapunzel!" Eugene started.
"I'll be fine," She rolled her eyes.
"No, we need to talk about this. Both of us nearly died because of your powers! We need to talk this out--think it through--whatever you want to call it."
"Since when have you been one to think things out?"
"Since we got married." He glared, "listen, we need to talk about this. I can't let you get kidnapped or killed or anything else because you wanted to risk your life to--"
"Save people?" She raised her eyebrows. "You want to talk about it? Fine, let's talk about it." She grabbed his hand and pulled him upstairs into her bedroom, locking the door behind her.
HICCUP sat on the couch telling Astrid about what happened with Pitch. He told her most of it when he returned home three years ago, but there were a few important details that she needed to know now that she was going to be a guardian too.
He now had everything about Pitch out of the way...there was one more thing though.
"Astrid, look, this last part, it's--it's going to be hard to understand. Keep that in mind, okay?"
"Hiccup, I've heard and seen my fair share of "hard to understand, " just get out with it."
He looked down, taking her hands in his. "Well, okay. Uhh, there's only one way to become a guardian. And it's to die for a noble cause. The only ones of us that are actually dead are Jack, the other four, and now Jamie, I guess, too. Elsa, Merida, Rapunzel, and I technically aren't guardians yet. And neither are you or Eugene."
She stared at him, "What are you trying to say?"
"I'm saying that we are going to die, sometime soon, and our friends and families won't know that we're still alive because we'll be immortal and they won't believe in us. If they don't believe in us...they can't see...us."
ELSA saw Jack standing beside her the second she woke up. He looked scared, almost panicked. "What's wrong?" She asked. He kept staring at her, not a sound escaping from his barely parted mouth.
His eyes watched her as she got out of the bed and walked over to the mirror.
She gasped at her reflection. Her eyes...they were orange! What happened to me? Her emotions started flaring. Fear. Confusion. Anger. Terror. Dread. They bombarded her all at once.
The room temperature rose as Elsa stared at her reflection. "Jack. What happened to me?" She sobbed.
He broke from his trance, "I...I don't know. Listen, Els, we'll figure this out. It'll be alright, you have to trust me." As he spoke he carefully approached her.
Something inside of her ignited.
Flames shot from her hands. Some melted the mirror, others were aimed at Jack and he quickly ducked. Her weak knees gave way and she collapsed onto the floor, crying. Her back was turned towards him. She was so afraid; just now she nearly killed Jack.
"Elsa?" He asked after she seemed to calm down.
Her sobs violently started. A freezing cold hand landed on her back.
"What's wrong with me? What did I do to deserve this?"
"You didn't do anything."
"Then why am I being punished?" She cried harder into the floor.
"I wish I knew."
"Jack, Rapunzel, Eugene, and Elsa--if she's alright--we need ya down here!" Bunny called.
JAMIE heard several people entered the globe room. Everyone was standing in a large circle, waiting for North to explain what was going on.
He knew he had been chosen to be a guardian, he just didn't understand why. He didn't have any talents or special abilities. He was average. He was Jamie...just Jamie. Never would he be anything more than that.
Someone taped his shoulder, startling him. He turned around and was surprised to see Merida watching him. He was taller than her now--the top of her head barely reaching his nose.
"What's 'rong lad?" She asked.
"What do you mean? I'm fine." He answered defensively.
She glared at him, and he must admit she was a bit scary. "Don' gimme dat. I can tell someding is boddering ya. Now out wid it."
"Why would you care?" He asked, in a very un-Jamie-like manner.
"Because we're on a team, lad. We look out fer each odder."
He looked down at her. She legitimately seed concerned about him. Her eyes were pleading for him to confess what was on his mind.
He sighed, "Alright, fine." She smiled. "Why would I be chosen as a guardian? I'm not special. I'm not a master archer, or dragon tamer. I don't have special healing or ice powers. I'm just a normal person."
Her face softened, understanding what he was trying to say. "Jamie," she paused and put a hand on his shoulder, "Whether ya think so, or not, ya are special. Last time I saw ya, ye saved our lives...an' ye were only thirteen! Imagine what ya can do now!"
He took in her words and smiled, "Thanks. I needed that."
"A course. I'm not usually da motivational type, but ya looked like ya could use it." She punched him roughly on the shoulder and he grimaced in pain. He was about to ask why she did it but she spoke. "Promise me ya won't get too cocky dough, alright?"
He chuckled, "Yeah, as long as you don't punch me again."
"Good luck with that." Hiccup grumbled. Merida punched him in the arm as well. "Hey!" Astrid giggled at him.
"Oh shut it, ya wee lamb."
Jamie couldn't help but grin.
"Do you ever stop, Kangaroo?" Jack shouted as he, Bunny, Rapunzel, Eugene, and Elsa entered the room. Jamie, wanting to avoid conflict, walked over to North who was watching the argument with an amused expression.
"North?"
"Yes?" He drew his attention away from the bickering guardians and focused it on Jamie.
"When will I be able to find my family?"
The environment between the two shifted. At first it wasn't exactly happy, but it wasn't terrible either. Now it felt stuffy and tense. "Jamie, I'm sorry but you can not see them again."
"Why?" He gaped.
"One, they think you're dead. And two, they won't even be able to see you because they think you're dead." Jamie didn't know what to say. He could never see his family again? How was that fair? "Listen, we're doing this to protect you. It will only hurt you to see them."
"It's fine, I...I understand."
No he didn't, that was a lie. He was going to see his family again even if it killed him.
MERIDA rolled her eyes at Jack and Bunny. They could never get along for five minutes! Five minutes, that was all she wanted...well, at least right now.
"Jack!" Hiccup yelled to him but he and Bunny continued arguing.
"You guys we don't have time for this!" Rapunzel shouted.
Merida groaned. Did she have to do everything herself?
Without a moment of hesitation she pulled an arrow out of her quiver and shot it. The arrow skimmed Bunny's arm, dark blood already seeping onto his fur. Everyone in the room stopped what they were doing and stared at her. Bunny glared her down but she held her own and did the same to him.
"Merida you can't just shoot people!" Hiccup finally spoke.
She must admit she was a bit hurt that he was scolding her.
"Wail what was I sapposed ta do? Dey weren't gonna stop anytime soon and ya know it!" She stepped closer to Hiccup. Jack whispered something to Elsa, Eugene, and Rapunzel, but she was too angry at Hiccup to pay attention to it.
"That still doesn't mean you can shoot people, Mer!"
Astrid sighed, "Hiccup--"
"I do whatever I want ta do, dregon boy!"
"'Dragon boy' how original. Why are you so violent?"
"Hiccup..." Astrid tried again, her voice getting slightly louder.
"Why aren't ya violent? Ye couldn' even kill a dergon!"
ASTRID knew that last remark hit Hiccup hard. His face held the darkest expression she had ever seen on him. "That was low, Mer." Hiccup muttered, "even for you." Astrid was already standing next to him but she grabbed onto this hand and sympathetically leaned her head on his shoulder.
He squeezed it tight, thanking her.
Merida seemed to realize her mistake. "Hiccup, I--"
"I don't want to hear it." He answered harshly.
What was wrong with him? He was never like that. Hiccup was many things...but harsh was not one of them.
North cleared his throat, "I think this has gone on long enough. Sandy, the--" he gestured to the ceiling and Sandy nodded. Golden sand swirled around the room creating images the distinctly looked like dragons. "Right then. This, guardians, is new threat."
"Who is it?" Rapunzel asked.
"Drago Bludvist?" Hiccup and Astrid gasped together.
"Correct."
"Be we just defeated him last week!" Hiccup claimed.
Bunny sighed, "That was just a battle, Hiccup. He has now declared war on us...and your nations."
"What?" Elsa and Rapunzel cried.
"That can't be possible." Astrid assured. "We saw him disappear. We watched his bewilder beast leave."
"That doesn't always mean they're gone for good..." Tooth looked around the room awkwardly. It was as if she was searching for something.
"Hiccup, Astrid, I need you to debrief everyone on Drago. Tell them everything you know." Astrid didn't know much about Drago, but she knew enough. "
"Okay." Hiccup said, "Lets go back to the suite then."
"We'll catch up." Rapunzel said as she elbowed her husband in the stomach.
"Sure." Astrid nodded. She could tell the couple was hiding something. Deciding it best to ignore it, though, she followed the rest back to their room.

Hello Guardians!
So what do you think? Liking it so far? Just an FYI, I have finals this next week and i need(ed) to study a lot so that's why this update took so long, sorry :/ How am I doing with Hiccup and Astrid's povs? I watched both seasons of DreamWorks: Dragons this weekend so that I could be more accurate to their characters, and I hope it's working!
I have @_Why_would_YOU_care 77 's story "Don't Fall For the Enemy" and I also have the unfinished "Together We Stand" and "I Won't Go Back." I was thinking since they closed their account if maybe I should repost them? I know how much you all loved their books and a month before they closed their account @_Why_would_YOU-care77 told me the plot for both stories--which I still have in my inbox. I could edit and finish the stories how they imagined them! But I will only do it if people want me to. I don't want people to think I'm stealing their stories. So, fellow wattpadders, guardians, dragons, and monarchs, This is where I leave you--with a decision to make... Do you want me to repost and finish @_Why_would_YOU_care77 's stories? The choice is yours, their fate... now up to you.
Well, now you know where I get my dramatic flair,
PrincessSelene04
