1: Only Hurting Herself
ELSA stared down at her hands. A month and a half had passed since she lost her powers. Was it some sort of sign? A sign that she truly was a disaster? Mistake? Monster? She had always thought of her powers as a curse, but now that they were gone, she felt as if a part of her were missing.
Olaf was gone. That day they found a puddle on the ground with coal and a carrot in it. That caused Elsa to cry more than anything else that day. She loved Olaf as if he were her child.
She didn't know what to do. She wanted help, but no one was able to help her. She, Jack, Anna, Kristoff, Rapunzel and Eugene had traveled to the trolls to see if they could do anything...they couldn't. Apparently, even though Pitch was weak when he struck her, he was still quite strong. She and Jack even went to the other Guardians to seek help. But they had none that to offer.
The worst part wasn't even losing her powers. The worst part was that every time Jack would try to comfort her, she would shrink away. Because now Elsa knew what it felt like to be cold.
And she didn't like it.
Her hair changed to brown, brown like her mother's. Her blonde had started to fade the day after Christmas and a week later turned completely dark. She was wearing normal clothes as well--not ones made of ice.
Now, looking her vanity mirror, she saw a different person than who she used to be.
When she was seven, she would have seen a happy little girl staring at her. When she was thirteen, she would have seen someone who was afraid and confused. When she was eighteen, she would have seen someone sinking deeper into depression. A few days after her coronation at twenty-one, she would have seen someone who was finally free.
But right then, at twenty-one and a half, she felt one of the worst emotions there was...hopelessness.
JACK knocked on Anna's door.
"Just a second!" He sighed and leaned against the door-frame, waiting for the princess. A few moments later the door swung open. Anna smiled sadly at him, "Hi, Jack."
"Do you have a minute?"
Anna nodded, "Sure." She stepped out into the hallway. They started walking down the stairs. "So...?"
"She's getting worse, Anna. I don't know what to do anymore. I feel like I've tried everything."
"What do you want me to do?"
"I was hoping you would have an idea." They walked into the throne room. Anna lounging in her throne, and Jack in Elsa's. "I'm so worried about her. She barely even talks to me. Every time I try to help her she pushes me away."
Anna scoffed awkwardly, "Don't take that personally. She did the same thing to me for thirteen years."
"But she was trying to protect you." Jack argued.
"True." Anna nodded in agreement. "I'm just saying that maybe it's still ingrained in her brain to do that though--to shut people out."
"Maybe you're right." Jack thought out loud, "Maybe she still thinks that she's protecting us from getting hurt. Not necessarily from her powers, but from the fact that she doesn't have them." Jack jumped up, pulling Anna into a hug, "Thank you, Anna."
Jack let go of her and flew out of the throne room. He needed to remind Elsa that they were there for her, and that she wasn't hurting them. The only person she was hurting was herself.
"You're welcome?"
JAMIE looked our his window. He hadn't seen Jack in five years. Maybe he was childish to think that it was all real. That the adventures had actually happened. But everything was so vivid, it couldn't have been just a dream. He knew it had to have been real.
"Jamie, what's wrong?" Pippa asked, sitting it the desk chair on the other side of his room.
"Do you remember the guardians?"
"The what?" She asked.
"Never mind. I didn't think so." He took a deep breath and blew it out as he leaned his head against the cold window, waiting, hoping Jack would show up.
ANNA sighed, "You're welcome?" She hopped out of her chair and went back upstairs--but this time she went to the guest hallway. She wanted to speak with her cousin Rapunzel.
She and her husband Eugene had been staying with them since Christmas. Anna was happy they were here and didn't want them to leave, the couple had agreed to stay until they were needed in their own kingdom.
Anna knocked on the door, "Rapunzel, I was hoping maybe you would help me with some wedding details? Kristoff had to harvest ice today..."
The door swung open, revealing Eugene, "Blondie isn't here right now, she went to the garden."
"While it's snowing?"
He shrugged, "I find its best not to argue with her. I've learned the hard way." He cringed at the thought.
"Okay, thanks Eugene." She sighed.
"No problem." Anna turned around and started walking down the hall again but Eugene stopped her, "Mind if I come along?"
She couldn't really think of a reason why he couldn't..."Yeah sure." She smiled. "You do realize it's just going to be boring wedding stuff though right?" She teased.
Eugene shrugged, "I don't mind. Kristoff wouldn't let me go with him this morning and I don't really have anything better to do."
"Very well then. But don't say I didn't warn you."
MERIDA forced Angus to go faster. She shot at the targets, never missing one. Her life almost seemed boring now without the guardians. She still loved doing her routine and shooting arrows, but it felt different...lonely.
The trees blurred around them as she made her way to Fire Falls.
Her mother came along this time, wanting to feel the accomplishment that Merida had.
"Mum, keep up. We're almost dere!" Merida chuckled.
At last they stopped at the based of the towering rock.
Elinor's eyes stared up at the rock in horror, "I change me mind. I'm not doin' it."
"Alrite, but I am. Ya can go, if ya'd like"
"I'll stay down here and watch. Have fun, dear. And do be careful."
She groaned, "I know mum." Her mother chuckled, waving her hands for Merida to climb.
She started off slowly, getting into a rhythm before she sped up near the middle of the rock. Over and over again she searched for places to hold and cling to. Her thoughts about the guardians clouded her mind. She hadn't seen or heard from them in two years. Was everything okay?
An hour or two had passed by the time she reached the top. She took a drink of the water from Fire Falls. And Merida squealed with glee as she danced around on top of the rock. She had done it again.
ELSA was still staring at her hopeless face in the mirror when there was a knock at the door. She didn't want to say anything, she wouldn't say anything until the person went away.
The person knocked again.
"Elsa, please, I know you're in there. I'm not going away until you open this door and talk to me." Jack said it softly yet forcefully at the same time, causing a dent in her defenses.
But she couldn't let him in.
"Come on, Els, open up!" She so desperately wished that she could freeze the door shut: it would trap out the sound so that she wouldn't be able to hear him. Jack sighed as he leaned against the door. "I just want to he help you, Snowflake."
I'm sorry, I can't. I don't want you getting hurt.
HICCUP watched as dragons towed a giant piece of ice away. He could have used some help from the guardians against Drago, but he supposed it was his own fight to win.
And he did, with the help of Astrid, Toothless, and his recently found mother.
Astrid walked up behind him, "What are you thinking about."
"The guardians. We could've used some help with all this." He gestured to the ice covered island of Berk. "Jack and Elsa could've help a lot." He sighed, "North said that there would be more danger, but it's been three years, and it kind of seems like they've forgotten about me."
Astrid gently hugged him from the side. "No one could ever forget about you. Just give it time, you'll see."
He looked down at her. How did he get so lucky? Here was a girl that genuinely cared for him, loved him even, and she made him feel complete. Even though he lost his father, and nearly lost Toothless, he would always have Astrid. And he couldn't be more grateful.
He hugged her back.
"You do know your mom is wondering when you're getting married, right?" Ruffnut teased annoyingly from behind them.
"Shut up Ruff." Hiccup said calmly as they pulled away from each other.
Astrid smirked, "I'll hurt her later."
Hiccup smiled, he should try to stop her, but there was really no point. She would do whatever she wanted, there was no stopping her. "Oh, I have to go meet up with my mom."
"What for?"
"Can't tell you."
She cocked her head to the side, "Come on, please?" He shook his head, "Okay, fine."
Hiccup whistled for Toothless, then kissed Astrid on the cheek. "I'll be back soon, I promise."
She shook her head and smiled, "Yeah yeah."
He mounted Toothless and took off.

Hello Guardians!
Sorry, REALLY long A/N that you need to read! So it's finally out...Yay! :D Sorry it took so long. homework is a bitch and I still haven't finished editing the first book :P But I thought the wait was getting too long, and that I shouldn't torture you any longer. Thank yous go out to @Protector_of_Belief for the title and @Lilli_4_lyfe for Elsa's hair idea (I didn't think of it until you mentioned it, so thanks :D) As you can see I've formatted this book a bit differently from the last one. That's because there are so many more characters so it will be easier this way (to read and write). Hope you don't mind too much...I'm pretty sure you know who the official ships are BUT BUT BUT...you do get Merricup in a...unique(?) form in the next book, so please don't stop reading just because it's Hiccstrid! Be patient with me, that's all I ask. If you are patient I will give you what you want.
The timeline has changed...a lot. So here's how this worked: for each character a different amount of time has passed (this is so that the storyline will work so please trust me). So the amount of time is how much time has gone by for each character since the last book.
- Elsa, Jack, Anna, Kristoff, Rapunzel, and Eugene -- 1.5 months. (So Elsa is 21, Jack 17, Anna 18, Kristoff 21, Rapunzel 21, and Eugene 29)
- Merida -- 2 years. (She's 19)
- Hiccup and Astrid -- 3 years (only a week after he became chief so they're 20).
- Jamie -- 5 years (he's 18 now)
Understand? I hope so...
In the immortal words of Dory, just keep swimming,
PrincessSelene04
p.s. I promise my A/Ns will never be this long again!
