The True Tale of The Newt

Once there was a small village a top a very tall, lush hill surrounded by a wood. One evening a tiny newt with brimming emerald eyes drifted into the town upon a small stream, where she made her way to a large puddle. When the town's people found the small newt in the morning, she asked the people for shelter. Her logic was that a newt of such small stature could not stand a chance in the dangerous wood that surrounded the village. Fortunately the people of the town were kind enough to offer The Newt shelter in their village

In the center of the village. The people constructed a small hut for The Newt. The crafters made tiny furniture, the seamstresses made little blankets and clothes to keep it warm, and the bakers began to decorate small loaves bread with cricket legs and spider's eyes. All this was for The Newt, and she was extremely grateful.

One late evening the newt was enjoying a walk beneath the stars, at one point she looked through a window and noticed a little boy had seemed to die in his sleep, luckily the newt was a type of demon. A demon with the capably of reanimating the dead, If she were to eat the dead's heart, turn their soul to gold, and use the gold to sculpt a new heart she could bring the child to life.

The newt thought it was the least she could do for the village. Even if she were to fail at bringing the child back she would grow bigger from eating the heart, and she was able to keep the gold, so she tried to revive the boy. Sadly though, she did fail.

The Newt decided to go to the little boy's funeral and give the family the gold she had kept and the family was grateful for The Newt's sweet tribute.

The people of the village must have been suffering from an insufficient immune system or illness because they were dropping like flies. Most of the time though The Newt was able to bring the dead to life.

Unfortunately, at one point a grey eyed man came to her and accused her of killing all those who had died.

Now the newt could not blame him for believing this, and it was a good observation. She was always a bit bigger every funeral, and she did also always have a piece of gold the size of the dead's heart.

She did her best to explain her abilities to the man but, it was in vain. He refused to believe her and he annoyed her greatly over the next few days until he cruelly and slowly cut off her head with his dull axe.

You should not be worried though, because she was a demon she was able to drop her physical form so she could be reborn. So after she was killed, she did exactly that. She was reborn as a baby girl, with the only mark of her past life being her brimming emerald eyes.

As for the man, he was able to convince rather empty-headed girl of his story and had many children with her, who he told his story to.

This is not then end of the story, after getting to the age where she could walk and talk the newt went to find the now grey eyed man. She found him walking with his wife and in her anger with him The Newt yelled at him for her death and, overestimating the strength of the man's thick skull, she punched him which promptly killed him. She was able to bring him to life before she ran away. As she did though, she heard that man over reacting, and saying that he was dying and he would curse the family.

In the curse, his next descendant would have grey eyes and they would kill the newt, and all of his descendants were destined to do so until she was entirely dead. The Newt thought that this was another one of his delusions but sure enough in a few years she was killed by a grey eyed child. Ever since then every grey eyed descendant of him would kill any emerald eyed child. Worst of all over the generations the grey eyed man's children and grandchildren began to convince the people of their village of father's idiotic myth. Now any emerald eyed children in the village were seen as nothing more than malicious demons.
