Chapter 2
I got up earlier than I had done in a while, before there was even light, streaming over the hills and brightening the town. Before there was any signs of life or sound. It was only after I'd removed my pyjama top and spotted the mark that I remembered. I was a member of Fairy Tail now wasn't I. If I need to wake up at a certain time, I wake up at that time and until then, it hadn't occurred to me that there was a reason for my waking up early. Also, wasn't I going on a mission? A job? With Wendy and Natsu and Lucy and Erza and Grey and Happy and Carla?
Hyperness bubbled up inside me and it was all I could do not to squeal with excitement. I showered in seconds and had dragged my pink, short sleeved shirt over my head before I even realised I had no idea where I was meeting them. The Guild Hall? Probably but why would anyone go there that early. I pulled up my black skirt and boots, secured my hair in two, long braids and left without another thought. Where would they be if they weren't at the Guild Hall? It didn't matter because they were there, standing outside, waiting.
"Sorry I'm late" I mumbled as I got to them.
"Hey Wren" Wendy grinned. "Don't worry, Lucy isn't here yet. We usually wait at hers to speed her up in the process of getting ready but you don't know where her house is."
"You should join us next time we break in" Natsu said.
I nod, aware of Lucy approaching from a distance.
"Lets go" Erza said, striding forwards. "If we're to catch the train on time we..."
"What? We're getting the train?" Natsu interrupted, staring as though terrified. "We can't get the train its... its... "
"I get motion sick just as much as you do Natsu" Wendy said sympathetically. "But if we're to do this job then we need to get there as quickly as possible so we have the maximum amount of time to get rid of it."
Natsu sighed, looking incredibly dismal.
"Don't worry Natsu" Grey smirked. "If need be, Erza can always knock you out again."
"Shut up ice brain" Natsu bellowed so loud I was sure the whole of Magnolia had woken up.
"Natsu do you really have to be so loud?" Lucy came to a stop beside us. "I'm not sure that everyone in the entire town likes to be woken up at the crack of dawn by maniacs like you."
Natsu looks like he wants to respond but doesn't , shakes his head and follows Erza, who stopped a bit up the road to wait for us. It still isn't light by the time we reach the train station. We get on the train and almost the second it starts moving, Natsu leans forwards as though he's about to hurl. Wendy looks sick too. I think. Is there any type of medicine that can prevent motion sickness? There is a banging noise from the seats across the aisle and I look across. Apparently, Erza had knocked Natsu out for the journey and Grey looked a lot more peaceful to when we first got on the train.
I put my hand in front of me and think about the travel sickness medicine. It materialises out of thin air, purple particles drifting together until it is there in my hand. I open the packet and give Wendy one of the tablets, insisting that it helps. It does. Within two minutes, she doesn't look as sick as she did before and definitely not as green.
"Honestly child" Carla shook her head to Wendy. "You need to take care of yourself and not rely on other people for help so much."
Wendy mutters a 'thanks' and stares down into her lap. After a while, she says "so what magic have you actually got?"
I hesitate. "I don't know what it's called but I can control particles."
"It sounds very scientific. Do you like science?"
I shake my head fast. "I hate it. I don't understand any of it at all but I didn't really have any choice over my magic. It just came with out a warning or anyone to help me control it."
"What can you do?" she looks up.
"Erm... create everything." I offer, not entirely sure myself. "I haven't actually tried to explore how far I can go with it yet though."
"Create something" Wendy says, eyes shining.
"Wendy" Carla snaps
"No, it's okay" I say and think. What would be useful at this moment in time? Cake would be nice? I control my thoughts into my hand and watch as the particles appear and clump together to form a large cake and, as an extra, a knife to cut it with.
Wendy's eyes shine even more than they did before, growing larger by the second. "Wow" she says. "That's brilliant."
I smile.
