The Transfer

My father always said, 'first impressions are everything, never disappoint'. He was a proud man, proud of his daughter and the life she had built for herself. Well I can tell you something now, my life as a cop isn't all sunshine and daisies.

"I heard a new detective is starting today, I wonder what there like" Amy said, sitting herself on Jakes desk.

Jake was caught in a stalemate with a case, combing through his evidence again to attempt to discover a new lead, a direction to go forward in.

"Maybe they can crake this case, because it's impossible.." He said, gently slamming his computers mouse on the table. He wasn't a violent man, never wanting to hurt anyone, not even his computers mouse.

"She's good, I spoke to her old C.O and he was sad to lose her.." Terry said, leaning over Jakes shoulder to review the evidence, hoping a fresh set of eyes was needed to help get a solve.

"Bout time another girl showed up, there's too much testosterone in here.." Rosa said, let out a small laugh.

"Well she will be here any minute and-" Terry said, cut off by the ding of the bullpens elevator.

I stepped out of the elevator, cup of coffee I had gotten from a street cart outside the precinct. I noticed the eyes of the other detectives on me as I pushed open the small gate, all eyes but a brown haired man who's head was buried in a file.

"Hi, are you Sargent Jeffords?" I said, extending my hand.

The sound of my voice allowed the man with brown hair to lift his head from a file, although he didn't speak.

"You can call me Terry, your detective Bishop?" He said, shaking my hand.

"Yeah I am, you can call me Riley. I was told I had to meet with the Captain when I arrived, where might I find him?"

Terry led me to a back office where I met my new captain, Caption Raymond Holt. He stood and gave me a firm handshake before I took my seat for the meeting.

"Nice hand shake.." He said as I sat down.

"Thank you sir.."

"It's your first day on the squad, I spoke with your old C.O and he only said good things. I want to pair you with Peralta, he has a double homicide that isn't going anywhere and you can help him make a solve.." He said, a lot of fun for the first day.

"Excellent, anything else I need to know?"

"Since Santiago move downstairs, she recently made Sergeant, her desk is open and its yours" He said, standing up as I joined him.

"Thank you sir, I can't wait to get settled in.." I said, shaking his hand once more before walking out to be introduced.

"Squad, can I have your attention!" Holt called, catching the attention of the bullpen.

"This is detective Riley Bishop, she's a transfer and starts today, dismissed!"

I moved to see the clear desk, probably for me if I went by process of elimination. Terry arrived over to where I was sat, making sure I was getting settled in.

"Do you have a case?" He said, eating his cup of yogurt.

"I have been assigned to work with Peralta?" I questions, wondering which of the deceives that was.

"That would be me.."

The man in front of me, the one with the short brown hair, piped up and spoke to me.

"The names Jake Peralta, I guess you're woking this with me" He said in an ominous tone.

"Riley Bishop, do you have the file?" I said, avoiding his hilarious egotistical persona.

"Here, they both took place in the same building, same floor. My main suspect is Adam Dunphey, age 37. He's the only possible suspect but-"

"Its his wife, Ava Dunphey. They were both home at that time. I believe he's involved but his wife did it" I said, only after a quick glance at his notes.

"I still have no murder weapon, death by knock to the head but there's nothing.."

I looked the wife up in the system, looking for something that would indicate that Ava did it.

"The wife works for a supply company. Look at this.." I said, leaning into my computer. He hopped off of his chair, looking over at my shoulder and seeing the evidence I had found.

"Let's go, come on!" He yelled, grabbing his jacket and heading for the elevator.

We had learned that she was a supply checker for products. In her file it was noted that four different hammers were reported missing, the night of the murders and then found by her the next day.

"Ready, 3, 2-"

"NYPD HANDS IN THE-"

"Peralta um, I don't think this is a great time for the pair.." I said, turning my back and not wanting to look at them in this position.

"What do you- OH MY GOD" He said, speeding to turn and stand with his back to the couple, right next to me.

"Eh Ava Dunphy can you um, get off of your husband because your under arrest for the murder of Ben Anderson and Lucy Goodwin.." Jake awkwardly said, looking to me for a bit of support.

In the end, she put some clothes on and we took her down to the precinct to be interrogated.

"You got a suspect, on your first day?!" Terry said, arriving over to see Jake putting Mrs. Dunphy in the holding cell.

"You didn't see that coming?" I laughed, knowing I just made a Marvel reference before returning to my desk to do a bit of paper work.

"Did you see that Terry?!" Jake said, closing the cell and walking to his friend. "She just made a Marvel reference.."

"Don't tell me you're into her, it's her first day!" Terry said, attempting to talk his friend down.

"She smart, pretty and obviously into Marvel, she is the perfect girl.." He said, looking down at my desk.

After a while, I was ready to begin with my interrogation.

"So what did happen to them hammers, I mean you miraculously found them, out of the blue."

"Yeah they um, they were just misplaced.." She responded, shifting in her seat.

"Misplaced, hm. So how did you know Lucy, were you friends?"

"Yeah we were close, I was close with Ben too, he was amazing.."

"So let's talk about Lucy, neighbours said you you were never apart.."

"We were, she went in such an awful way.." The suspect said, wiping a tear.

"Oh I know-"

"I mean hit over the head, I can't imagine how awful such a thing is" She cried.

Got her.

"Well I know, my question is, how do you? You see that information wasn't released to anyone, so anything you wanna tell me about Ben?"

From behind the glass, Jake was watching the integration when Holt arrived in.

"She did it, she solved the case within seconds of looking at the file!" Jake said to Holt, nodding in approval.

"She's a great detective, she will be a great addition to the squad.." Holt replied.

After wrapping up the case and getting Jake to help with the paper work, I headed to the break room to grab a cup off coffee.

"Hey, are you the new girl?" A women said.

I tuned to see a uniformed officer, extending her hand Behind he there was a dark hair women in black leather and a brown haired women with her head in her phone.

"Yeah hi, I'm Riley Bishop!" I said, accepting her shake.

"Rosa Diza, I don't do shakes.." She said, sipping her coffee.

"Thats alright" I nodded back.

"Gina Linetti, I know it's a pleasure to meet me, you should bow.." She said, not removing her eyes from her phone.

"You don't have to do that, she's to gonna do that" Amy said, glaring at Gina.

"Well it's nice to meet you all, I think there's some others outside, other detectives?" I asked, unsure of who they were.

"Boyles outside, I'd avoid Hitchcock and Scully at all costs" Rosa laughed.

I walked outside the break room, attempting to make a break for my desk when two older detectives approached me.

"Hi my names Norm, Norm Scully!" He said, with a cute smile on his face.

"And I'm Hitchcock, would you like to try some-"

"Okay I'm just gonna borrow Bishop for a quick moment, come on please" Jake called, taking my shoulders and guiding me around the boys and back to the desk.

"Your welcome.." He said, finally ending my guided tour.

"I'm sure there not that bad I mean-"

I looked to them and realised I was a great thing that I was whisked away.

"Thank you, Peralta.." I said, returning my eyes to his.

"No problem, I'll save anyone from them two.." He laughed

"Well my shifts over and after the day we had, I think a rest is deserved" I laughed.

"I was gonna invite you to Shaw's, grab a beer?" He asked.

"Next time.." I said, grabbing my jacket.

I was half way across the bullpen when I turned back to Jake.

"And you can call me Riley.." I said, as he turned back to meet eyes with me.

"Then you can call me Jake" He said spinning back around into his desk.
