The Mayors Daughter
I never really expected something such as this when I left Long Island.
I had woken up in not a great humor, memories of the night before ringing through my head. Only one thing going through my head,
'I think-'
He should know, isn't something such as this a fact on which you either know or you don't? I mean to me it was clear, from the beginning I just knew. I just thought he felt the same.
I quickly put on some clothes, deciding on riding the long way to work to clear my head, something I would later be thankful for.
As soon as I stepped out of the elevator, I was approached by Terry, who had one Jake Peralta cowering behind him. The last person I wanted to talk to today.
"Holt needs to see you, he has a case.." Terry said, leading me straight to Holt office, slapping to door in Jakes face.
Holt gestured me to the seat in front of him, Terry sat in the one next to me. He handed me a file, a rather gruesome one at that.
"Last night, the mayors daughter was kidnapped, the suspect also killed her two bodyguards.." He explained.
"Do you want me to look into it?" I asked.
"You have an eye for things such as this and so you will take Primary, Diaz and Peralta will-" He attempted to say.
"I will request to not to have to work with Peralta.." I interrupted, I should not have interrupted such a scary man.
"Why?" Terry said in concern.
"Personal matters, I wouldn't want my them interfering with trying to catch a killer.." I explained.
"Alright, I can pull him from this case. It's a sensitive matter and I want it wrapped up efficiently, for the mayors sake.." Holt explained.
"Yes sir, I'll meet with Diaz now.." I smiled, leaving the room.
Once I stepped outside, I was met by Jake, attempting to speak with me. Although I just kept on moving.
"Riley just please can you speak to me!" He said, stopping me once I reached my desk.
"I have an important case, I don't feel like speaking to you-"
"Just hear me out!" He said, almost swarming me as I tried to walk away from him.
"Can you just give me some space, please!" I said, attempting to get to Rosa and noticing all eyes falling on us.
"Riley please, I-" He tried.
"You need to back away, I have a job to do and a case to solve. Do you think you can do that? Because you seem to be doing a lot of thinking in a-pose to knowing.." I said, finally pushing through him, "And by the way, it's Detective Bishop.."
I walked away, headed straight to Rosa's desk and quickly allowed her to collect her things to leave.
I hurried her down to the elevator, only noticing Jakes face as the doors shut. A face of pure sorrow.
"Wanna tell me what you did that hurt Bishop so much?"
Upon the doors shutting, Holt had emerged from his office and approached Jake from behind, sort of scaring him.
"Last night, we got into a disagreement where she told me she had feelings for me and I didn't respond the same way, well the way she wanted me to.." He begun to explain.
"You are beyond stupid.." Holt said, seeing Jakes head flick up to him.
"Excuse me?" Jake laughed, although Holt wasn't laughing.
"It is so clear that you have completely fallen for this girl and in true Peralta fashion, you screw it up.." He tutted, before leaving the bullpen.
I mean he felt that he had screwed up, as did I. It took Ross till half way through the car ride to venture the question.
"Are you gonna tell me why you and Peralta went at it in the middle or the bullpen, also how you shut him down with such style.." She asked, momentarily taking her eyes off of the road to look to me.
"I sort of told him I liked him, he sort of kept using the the phrase of 'I think' and was asking if the date with that other guy meant something. He kept stammering, unsure of himself.." I explained.
"Jakes weird, but i've never seen him like someone as much as he likes you.." Rosa explained.
"I get he's weird, but surely you can know weather or not you have feelings for someone?" I asked.
"It's Jake, give him some time.." She said as she parked the car.
Upon arriving to the scene, it was one of the bloodiest crime scenes I had ever encountered. You could see how it was all done, judging on the blood slashed dressed upon the walls.
The entire thing was horrifying.
Settling down with evidence, overview of the work when we arrived back at the precinct.
"I think I have an idea of who we're dealing with.." I said, looking up from the files to see Rosa and Terry now combing through the evidence.
"Go for it.." She said.
"Male, strong built. He took down two highly trained bodyguards with a knife, it was messy. He knew what he was doing, meaning he wanted Sarah Parker. I believe this was a targeted political attack." I responded.
"Can you narrow down details for us?" Terry asked.
"Male, 6,5 ish, muscular built. He did this all in a few minutes, meaning this was planned. The prior information on where she was going to be suggests he works for or with the mayor.."
"Are you saying this was an inside job?" Rosa asked.
"I'm saying that only people who worked closely with the mayor knew about this, someone either leaked it or ordered the plan to be made.." I said, quickly leaving the desk to head straight to my own.
I sat down, rapidly looking for a list of our mayors inner circle. I only glanced away from my screen for a moment, noticing a very pissed off look dressed upon Jakes face.
He probably figured out I was the reason he wasn't on this case.
Moving back to the computer, I was able to come up with a list of suspects. It was clear that the people in this circle wouldn't have gotten there hands dirty on this, they had help.
My train of thought was broken by the phone ringing, without even thinking I grabbed it, it was a reflex I was thankful for it in that moment.
"Detective Riley Bishop speaking.." I said, continuing to scribble things down, not really giving the call that much attention.
"Riley Bishop.." A creepy voice spoke, taking my full attention and a concerned look upon my face.
"Who is this?" I asked, slowly look around to room for Terry or Holt, incase this was something bad.
"I have Sarah Parker, she's right beside me.." He said, his voice lingering with his words.
Jake noticed my face drop when her name was spoke, how I had stood up to draw more attention to myself, him doing the same.
"Do you wanna give me your name, maybe tell me is Sarah's okay?" I asked in a calm tone, well the calmest tone I could muster.
"Sarah will be fine, if you follow my list of demands.." He spoke in that same edged tone.
"I wouldn't expect anything else.."
At the at moment, Jake had run to Holt and Terry, pulling them to be next to the phone.
"Are you alone, Riley?" He asked.
"I'm at work, but you called here so you would know that fact.." I said, looking up to the men surrounding me with a sense of worry.
"I want the mayor to drop out of the re-election campaign, then I won't slice his daughter into pieces.." He whispered.
"Alright, now I want you to do something for me.."
It was a bold move, asking the man with a hostage to do something, knowing full well he could have killed her right on the phone to me. But we have to chance it.
"What might that be, dear?" He sniggered.
Disgusting.
"I want proof of life, let me speak to Sarah and my captain will speak to the mayor-" I spoke.
"You will be the one dealing with this, only you. You will speak to the mayor, then you will get Sarah back.." He frustratedly spoke before hanging up the phone.
I took a moment to collect myself, he was a different type of killer. Jake was just stood quiet but I lifted my head, deciding on a plan.
"I want everyone in the meeting room, I'll take the lead.." I muttered, before collecting the file and walking away.
It took about five minutes for everyone to gather, although it was unclear about what. I mean until I briefed them.
"Sarah Parker was a victim of a political attack, her father is the mayor and is running for re-election. He phoned me, a few minutes ago. He's extremely bold, confident in his abilities. Sarah is alive still, but this man is intelligent if he pulled something like this. He knew things about the girls schedule that only someone close to the mayor would know. I believe he's being fed this information by someone close to him, then had someone else carry out the attack.."
"Do we have a lead on anyone that would be the leak?" Charles asked, reviewing the file.
"The mayor has three people that know his schedule down to the second, I want someone to bring all three people in for questioning-" I continued.
"The inner circle doesn't look like they would be capable of this.." Amy pointed out.
"That's why I believe the actual kidnapper and murder isn't in control. If we keep the person calling the shots in our custody, he could panic and call back. We want him to call back.."
I mean although he seemed insane, insanely creepy, if he called I could get something out of him.
Maybe even save the girl.
