Chapter Ten
Chapter Ten
After haggling prices for almost half the day, Tiwa and Demola were strolling to the former's abode. The market could be brutal and only the tough survive.
They walked beside each other in comfortable silence. Earlier, Tiwa had told her friend of yesterday's happenings but she left out many scenes.
Of course, she itched to tell someone. Demola was her closest friend, Demola and Tife, but Tife was married with two rascals for children. She had her own worries.
'Demola' Tiwa tried to get her friends attention, she partially succeeded.
'Yes, What is it?' Demola was absentminded.
'You know that yesterday...' Tiwa began before deciding to re-phrase. Right now she could not find the right choice of words. 'What I did to their drinks yesterday...'
Before Tiwa could complete her statement Demola screamed, not from fear but excitement. Tiwa then looked to where Demola's attention was directed. Behold the missing part of their squad. Tife smiled her usual soft smile and walked forward to give her friends a warm embrace.
Having the twins had taken a toll on her, but she was here now. Tife had attended her friend's wedding but that was it. She had to travel during that time but she was back now. Maybe for good.
'Tife!' Tiwa too was excited.
'I was on my way to your house' Tife remarked to Tiwa. Thank god they met here. Tiwa just hoped Dele was not home, at least not after last nights occurrence.
...............
'Then you kissed him!' Demola shrieked.
Tiwa's eyes were directed to the ground. Her emotions were all over the place. She did not know how to feel. Should she be ashamed? happy?
'Was it a bad thing?' Tiwa's voice was low
'Even I don't know, what do you expect!' Demola the dramatic one was over the top. Her eyes were wide and her hand were expressing her dramatics. Tife the other married one came to Tiwa's rescue.
'Of course it might have been awkward but they are married' Tife stated, the way she spoke made Tiwa feel less stupid.
'And so?' Demola was already on her feet.
'You are just shouting, over-reacting.' Tife was still had a calm facade. It must the motherhood thing. She looked like nothing could disrupt her calm.
Tiwa could not hide her embarrassment as she went on to recount the events of the previous night.
.................
What are my doing!
Tiwa shifted from her husband abruptly, so much that a small sound could be heard from the screeching of the bed underneath them both.
In very short moments, the air in the room had changed.
Shock showcased itself in Dele's eyes. It did not take long for the small smirk to form across his face. Once Tiwa noticed that treacherous smile, she turned away from the man, lying on her side with her back towards him.
What have I done!
It must have been an awful slip in judgement.
Dele's smirk on grew bigger once he noticed his wife's timidity. He did not expect what had just transpired but he could make the best of it. After all, earlier today, she put him in miniature torture.
Tiwa's heart was racing. Dele running the tips of his fingers across her naked shoulder down to her wrapper clad waistline did nothing to calm her anxiety.
'Tiwa' Dele whispered in her ear 'what was that?'.
There was no running from this. Her mind ceased to develop responses. She could not decipher the new air in the room. Not with his bare chest in close proximity. Not with his fingers caressing her skin. Not like this!
It was almost like an intervention from heaven when the idea struck her.
She will pretend to be asleep. Nobody could fall asleep that fast but there was no harm in trying to seek refuge. She was not ready for that kind of intimacy with her man. At least not yet.
She slowly took a deep breath. Trying to even out her breathing was a fatal quest but she was determined.
She continued to monitor her breathing. Slowing it down, trying to mimic a slumbering person. All this time, Dele did not deter from teasing her person, mostly her bare shoulder.
She felt like she was making progress until when Dele's hands slipped to the curve of her derriere. In that moment she drew in a sharp breath, it was not intentional. Tiwa had given herself away.
...............................
'Then what happened?' Demola did not hide her eagerness to hear more, Tife on the other hand was quiet.
Eyes still to the ground, Tiwa continued, 'He just laughed a little, then told me good night'. She did not even know why she was telling, but she just doing it.
'Then?' Tife asked, calmly, as usual.
Tiwa did not have a reply. She was still trying her best to avoid her friends eyes. Of course she told them with the scantiest details but that did not mean they did not understand her narrative.
'So the both of you...' Demola's eyes gave away what her insinuations were
'Demola!' Tife rose her voice for the first time that day, at least if you don't count the times she yelled at her children this morning.
'What is it?' Demola started to speak in her defense 'What else could have happened?'. Her question was an obvious rhetoric.
Tife shifted towards Tiwa and took her into her arms like a mother would. Patting her hair softly. Tiwa obliged, she need this comfort.
'Don't mind Demola. She does not understand' Tife said softly.
Demola was already up and hissing at Tife's statement.
'Did I say anything wrong now?' Demola was just being Demola. Demola's infamous smile arose on her lips. She spoke laughingly, making jest of Tiwa by lowering her voice 'I am sure he touched you and caressed you and and...'
'Demola stop it!' Tife too had a small smile. It was not her fault, the look on Tiwa's face was hilarious.
'And then he kiss...' Demola wanted to continue her teasing when Tiwa yelled her defense
'We did not even do anything!'
Now, Tiwa wondered whether making that remark was wise as she earned only a greater laugh from both her friends, even Tife could not hide it.
Demola bent to tickle Tiwa. She was being to moody. In response, Tiwa stood up, trying to avoid Demola's antiques.
With her lips in a pout she declared
'It's just sex. You people are making a big deal out of nothing, and it is not like we even did anything'
She let out a breath. Happy she had silenced her friends. The fact that those words sealed their lips gave her confidence to continue speaking.
'Tife, you that is laughing, do you not have children. Doesn't that mean that your husband over-touched you. Demola, you are not even married so I'll settle your case when you have a husband.'
Making eye contact with each of them, one after the other, Tiwa continued her rant. 'Can you not leave me and my husband alone!' She said this with her hands on her hips while slanting slightly forward. This position, in her head, must have looked intimidating.
Silence still reigned. Tiwa was done with her rant but silence still reigned.
'What is it?' She asked sincerely concerned.
It was then she heard the sigh from behind.
Her husband had come home!
