Clementine's POV

I woke with a jump at the sound of metal hitting tile. As I started to wake up fully I quickly remembered what happened before I blacked out. 'The crash.The walkers. AJ!'

With a gasp I started taking in my surroundings. I was in a room with chipped white paint on the walls and white tile on the floor. There were two tables with different supplies spread out on them in the room, one not far from the cot I was on, to the right of the room and one pushed up to the wall on the other side of the room.

As I surveyed the room I noticed a girl at the table on the other end of the room and realized she was the reason I woke up in the first place.She seemed to be sorting some cans and had dropped one causing the noise. She didn't look back to check on me though so I continued to study her in an attempt to create a plan to get back to AJ. It wasn't easy to get a good look at her when her back was facing me.

I could only tell that she was a redhead and was much taller than me. She also had on not so worn out clothes, well as good as you can get in the apocalypse. She had her hair to one side and the other shaved, I also took notice of the ear piercings on her exposed ear.

After studying her a bit longer I notice an axe on the table she was working at. I quickly checked my person to see if they had taken my weapons,'Of course they did. They'd have to be stupid not to.'

Looking for any potential weapons didn't last long as I noticed a dull looking knife on the table to the right of the cot. Holding my breathe I slowly got off the cot being extra careful as to not alert the redhead of my consciousness.

Luckily she seemed to caught up in her work to notice the movement behind her. My head hurt like hell but I made sure not to make a sound as I made my way to the knife. After successfully getting a weapon I knew I had to find out where AJ is.

With this in mind I crept up behind the tall girl, and before she could even blink I had the knife pressed up against her throat and felt her tense in sudden panic.

I saw her hand reach for the axe and pressed the knife down firm. "Don't." I commanded in a stern voice. She obeyed and lifted both her hands in surrender. "I just want to know where my boy is and where I am." I spoke with the same sterness I only use when talking to strangers.

She began to shake her voice in a hushed whisper. "I don't know where he is...we weren't...we don't mean harm." At that moment I heard the sound of a metal door opening and in came a woman.

The woman had two headbands, one around her neck like a necklace and one on her head. She quickly aimed her rifle at me. "Back away from her or your boy dies." As soon as she mentioned AJ, I stepped back slowly and dropped the knife.

"Good." The woman said lowering her gun. The tall girl still seemed a bit shaken up from the knife to her throat but was otherwise unharmed. This seemed to satisfy the woman farther.

"Minerva you need to be more aware of your surroundings, especially when with someone you dont know." She berated the tall girl,Minerva. "Sorry Dorian." Minerva responded quickly and clearly, nothing like how she was talking to me earlier.

'Although I guess that's expected considering my threats.' Then the woman turned to me, Dorian I think was her name. "Now as long as you behave nothing will happen to your boy and you'll get to see him again soon, am I clear."

Not wanting to lose AJ I nodded. "Ok, good. Minerva keep an eye on her while I go get Lilly and the boy." I sigh in relief after hearing she's bringing AJ to me.

"Yes ma'am." She stated and with that Dorian left the room. Not wanting to upset Minerva in any way I started walking to the cot and sat down on the edge of it. Minerva stared at me the whole time I moved and still after I sat down.

The silent stare was starting to make me increasingly uncomfortable, so I talked. "Sorry, for the knife." I said raising my eyes to meet hers. She walked over to me and I started to panic.

'Shit did I mess up, damn I really need to work on my people skills.' Soon she was towering over me with our eyes still connected. That's when i really got to see her face.

She was light with faded freckles dotting her cheeks and nose. Her eyes were a deep blue and a scar seperating her left eyebrow. Her lips were pink and only slightly cracked, suggesting that she was not as dehydrated as me. 'Pretty...'

She seemed to notice my gaze roaming over her features and looked at the floor before speaking. "Just don't cause a fuss and you and your boy will be fine." She said in a raspy whisper. 'Her voice...it's nice.' Shaking the thought from my head I decided to pat the spot next to me as an invitation to sit.

She took the invitation and sat down next to me. Close enough to feel her body heat but not touching. 'Go figure she doesn't trust you after you held a knife to her throat.' I sighed at the thought.

"Where am I?" I decided to try. "Delta, we're a safe community with good walls and supplies." She answered before looking at me. "What's your name?" She asked, and considering she answered me it only seemed fair to answer back.

"Clementine." "Nice to meet you Clementine, I'm Minerva." She said reaching out a hand for me to shake. "Pretty name." I said without thinking and shook her hand. She was blushing and not looking at me directly as we shook hands.

"Shit, I'm sorry I didn't mean to make you uncomfortable." I apologized as soon as I realized what I said. "Oh um it's-" she was cut off by the door opening. She quickly jerked her hand out of my grasp and stood up to face the person.

A familiar looking woman was at the doorway but before I could put my finger on why she looked familiar I heard my name. "Clem!" AJ was running towards me.

I dropped to my knees and opened my arms for him. He threw himself into my arms and I hugged him tight. "Are you hurt?" He asked my pulling away.

"It's gonna take a lot more than that to take me out." I stated teasingly while ruffling his hair. He giggled and let me check him for injuries. "I'm okay Clem." "You know what else you are?" He looked at me in confusion. "Ticklish." I answered and gave him no mercy. His giggles making me relax until a cough interupted us.

AJ hid behind my leg a little bit as I stood back up to face the familiar woman and Dorian, who I didn't know entered the room until now. "You uh probably don't remember me." She stated more than asked.

That's when it hit me. "Lilly?" A look of surprise washed over Dorian and Minerva who silently watched the interaction. Lilly looked relieved I remembered her and a small smile took over her face. "Your so... How old are you?" She asked me.

"16, I think." I answered. She nodded and Dorian decided to speak. "You know her." "Well of course I do I wouldn't just bring in anyone to the Delta and have them not restrained if I didn't." Lilly replied in a sharp tone. Dorian nodded and Lilly turned her attention back to me.

"Clementine, I'm the leader here at the Delta and as such I'm asking you if you would like to join us?" The offer was pleasant and I looked down at AJ who stayed silent but looked up at me and contemplated the question as well.

Sensing my hesitation Lilly continued. "We have food, water, and walls, we could keep that boy of yours safe and healthy. He would be trained and could even stay with you if that's what you wish."

The offer of a safe place for AJ seemed promising, especially when we didn't have a plan to stay alive. With a sigh I kneeled back to AJ's height. "What do you think goofball, wanna stick around and possibly get a home?"

His face lit up at the word home and he immediately started nodding. I smiled and turned my gaze to Lilly. "Guess that settles it, but AJ stays with me."

Lilly smiled and nodded. "Since you've already met Minerva she can be your mentor and help you settle in here at Delta." She said and looked at Minerva for confirmation of her order.

Minerva nodded and was about to say something but Dorian beat her to it. "Where would they sleep Lilly and what can they do?" She asked Lilly who gave her a pointed look.

"She can stay with Minerva since she is her mentor and we can figure the rest out when she's fully healed," Lilly turned to me and continued talking, "that was a nasty crash you got yourself in the car was totaled and you attracted a lot of walkers."

"Thank you for helping us." I replied, she nodded and both woman left the room once again leaving me with Minerva but also AJ this time.

I looked over at Minerva then back to AJ. "Hey goofball this is Minerva, be nice m'kay." I said to him, he nodded and started to assess her. "She's tall." He stated more to himself than me. "Minerva this is my boy AJ he's not very good with people."

Minerva kneeled down to his height and extended her hand for a hand shake. AJ hesitsted and looked at me for permission, I nodded, "Its ok she nice I promise." With that said AJ reached out and shook her hand.

"Nice to meet you AJ, Are you hungy or tired?" She asked him. He of course started talking about how he was starving. "Ok then lets get the both of you to the cafeteria then I'll show you to your new room, and go get your stuff from the storage."

Minerva had AJ's full attention and lead the both of us out of the room to get food. I took in the community as we walked from what had to be an infirmary over to a flight of stairs. Once down the stairs I notice we were in a courtyard and many other people and kids were working and talking to one another.

Minerva lead us to a building and opened the door for us. She had lead us to the cafeteria like she said she would and it reminded me of the cafeteria I used to eat at in school.

Minerva lead us to a empty table and told us to sit while she got us some food. We did and AJ started talking, "I like it here, it's alot better than the car." He said as he excitedly gazed around the room.

"Yeah it is." Is all I said before Minerva was back with a bag and a can. "Here." She said handing me the bag as she took a knife and started opening the can.

Taking a look in the bag I saw two apples and an orange. I smiled at the food and handed an apple to AJ before biting into mine. We all ate in silence but it felt nice, comfortable. The apple was good and I split the orange between me and AJ.

Noticing that Minerva was done with her can before we finished I took a piece off my orange and held it out to her. She looked at me in confusion before taking it. "For letting us stay with you."

She smiled at that and I realized I made her smile. 'She looks nice smiling.' I let the small smile on my face grow as she ate the orange slice.
