Chapter 9 The Trauma

Weeks had passed and spring was starting to bloom, however Charlie still hasn't explained anything to any of the Squads about his magic. This caused much frustration between him and The Squads, as they wanted to know how he knew magic. Daniel was especially curious as Charlie seemed to have a firm control and grasp on how to use his magic. That was something that Daniel himself wanted to know how to do, as his magic was developing slowly due to his lack of a push. However when either Hannah or Daniel tried to get their father to talk he would just avoid answering anything. While frustrating, Hannah noticed that Charlie seemed to be nervous and guilty of something related to the topic.

Right now The Rainbow Squads were at Iris's house with their animal guides and the Royal children, discussing the matter regarding Charlie.

"What's up with your dad H? How come he's not explaining how he knows magic?" Melody asked.

"Yeah it's strange that he doesn't want to talk about something that's a part of him," Iris said feeling pretty upset.

"Not to mention that he's also stopped using it for such a long time," Cen commented.

"Yeah I can't imagine how his heart is doing with the amount of magic that's been bottled up after all of these years," Oberon started as he floated in the air slightly.

"Wait what are you saying? What does this have to do with my dad's heart?!" Hannah asked, concerned about what Oberon had said.

"Well, Hannah, let me explain this," Amanda said as she jumped off Hannah's shoulder and onto the floor.

"Now based on the spells your father was casting had shown us that he used magic a long time ago. However for some reason he seemed to have stopped using it, and that's not exactly good to do as magic is alive in a way and needs to be used constantly. This can allow it to be free and controlled by its caster," Amanda explained.

"Free? Um okay, but what does this have to do with Charlie's heart?" Josh asked.

"She's getting there, okay? Let Amanda finish before you ask questions," Umang explained.

"Oh okay, sorry," Josh apologized feeling kinda embarrassed.

"Alright, so when it comes to magic it's stored in the heart and when it's not being used it creates more of it. You all noticed that when any of you use a large amount of magic you feel tired?" Amanda asked. The Squads all nodded as they all noticed that they were indeed tired after long battles and intense spells.

"Well that's because the magic in your heart was used and when a large amount of it is used you become tired as your magic is connected to you. So when you rest your magic makes more of itself in order for you to be strong again. However if an individual who has used their hearts magic stops using for a long period of time, then their magic will build up. Imagine it like a bottle of pop when it's been shaken up the pressure inside remains there till the bottle is opened. But unlike pop when magic is finally used it'll start bursting out of the heart even with the slightest spell casted," Amanda explained.

"Ah so when we don't use our magic it regenerates basically, but when it hasn't been used in a long time it'll be like a bottle of pop after it has been shaken up?" Ed asked.

"Yes exactly so it's important you all balance out using and not using your magic. As it seems like Charlie's magic seems to burst out every now and again due to how long he's not used it," Amara explained.

"Um Charlie will be fine right?" Lila asked a bit worried about Charlie.

"Yeah it's not harmful, but the sudden casting of random spells can be a bit of a problem. Not to mention that if he doesn't want anyone to know about his magic in the first place," Faith explained.

"Thank goddess! But still I don't like how he's avoiding the topic," Jane commented.

"Well there'sss gotta be a reasssion why he'sss not talking," Katie pointed out.

"Whatever it is, I just can't believe he's never thought once to tell any one in the family about this!" Hannah exclaimed a bit frustrated with her dad.

"Hey love! I know you're angry, but my mom says we should never get angry over something when we don't know the whole story. So we should first hear what he has to say before being fully angry with him!" Jake explained trying to pacify Hannah down.

"I know but it's just confusing, I'm just processing a lot of emotions right now and it doesn't help that he's not answering anything," Hannah explained.

"Hey um can I say something?" A male voice asked.

Everyone looked and saw Smith standing in the doorway that led into the library of the house. "Oh yeah Uncle Smith what do you want to say?" Iris asked.

"Well, um, it's just a thought but what if your dad had experienced something in his childhood that traumatized him?" Smith suggested.

"Wait, what do you mean?" Jake asked curious, on what Smith was implying.

"Well if his lack of giving an answer is related to his childhood, then it could be a childhood trauma. After all when it comes to those kinds of events then it can be hard to talk about," Smith explained.

"Huh, you know that's not far from the truth," Erick said as he thought about the explanation.

"Yeah my parents do have some form of trauma from their childhood," Jake explained.

"Well I guess that's understandable, but still I would like for my dad to explain himself," Hannah said as she pressed her knees up to her chest and wrapped her arms tightly around her legs.

Jake thought about what to do as he wanted to help his girlfriend out with this problem, because he was afraid that if she and her dad didn't talk then it could take a toll on their relationship. The last thing Jake wanted was for his girlfriend to lose her relationship with her dad. He then got an idea to maybe try to have a talk with Hannah's dad, he thought that maybe he could try and convince Charlie to tell them about his past.

"Hey guys I'm gonna head out for a bit, I need some fresh air," Jake said as he got up from the couch.

"Alright we'll see you later love," Hannah said as she and the others all waved goodbye.

Jake smiled and left the place to go find Charlie, he had a slight hunch on where he might be right now as he overheard a conversation Charlie was having with his wife earlier that morning. Meanwhile in the shadow realm Adrienne and Lucifer were in the throne room listening to one of their servants.

"My Royal majesty, the plan is almost ready, just another two days and I assure you both it will be ready," The servant explained.

"Ahaha, good to know, and you better pray it will be done in two days, cause you know what will happen if it takes longer!" Lucifer threatened.

The servant cringed back in fear and bowed his head down to Lucifer and Adrienne before backing away then running off. "Hehe, it's so easy to scare the servants," Adrienne laughed.

Just then the two heard monstrous growls and roars erupting from another room down the hall. "Oh great, sounds like Jack and John are having another flare up," Lucifer groaned out annoyed.

"Ugh, father, remind me why we don't just destroy those two? After all these flares are causing us nothing but trouble," Adrienne explained as she leaned back into her throne.

"You know why, it's because the hate and darkness inside them and their hearts will be free. Unfortunately due to how destructive it is it'll destroy not just the Rainbow Squads but us too," Lucifer explained.

"Oh right, well I'll just go and calm the two down before they break something," Adrienne said before getting up from her throne and heading to the source of the sound.

When she entered the hallway where the noises were coming from she saw the two brothers merged together into a big monstrous creature dripping a black substance while they roared and attacked anything in their sight.

"HEY! STOP THIS IMMEDIATELY!" Adrienne screamed, getting the brothers' attention.

The two looked over to Adrienne, growled at her, before charging at her full force ready to attack. Adrienne sighed before putting her hand out and when the two brothers made contact with her hand, they went flying to the wall. They smashed into the wall and the black goo they were covered in splattered all over the wall, the impact caused them to separate. Jack and John fell to the ground still slightly coated in the goo, both groaned in slight discomfort but managed to recover.

"Ugh, these outbursts are getting harder and harder to control," John said as he pushed himself up.

"Yeah ugh! However it's all worth it, after all our regeneration is the best part about this. I wouldn't have my arm if it wasn't for this hate and negativity in the first place," Jack commented.

"Hmm, that's right regeneration, hmm?" Adrienne pondered as she scratched her chin and thought about something.

"Pardon me but I'd like to have a tiny bit of that stuff?" Adrienne asked.

"Um, yes, why do you want some in the first place?" John questioned.

"That's for me to know and you both don't need to! Now give it to me now!" Adrienne demands with one of her hands out.

"Ugh fine! Here let me scrap some off the walls," John said as he got up.

He then whipped a little bit of the goo off the wall and plopped some of it in Adrienne's hand. "Thank you, oh and one more thing, till I say so don't take either Craindre or Shade out into the battlefield," Adrienne requested.

"Huh? Okay, what do you want us to do in the meantime then?" Jack asked as he got up from the floor.

"Oh well since the Red Squads father is the one who had sent out that magic pulse a few weeks ago I thought you two would pay him a visit. From what I heard apparently you two had known him in the past so I think it'll be nice to see him again," Adrienne said with a sly smile on her face.

Immediately after she had said that Jack and John knew who she was talking about. They both grinned evilly as they thought about what they would do to him once they saw him again.

"Oh-ho, this will be quite the entertainment wont it brother?" Jack asked.

"Hehe yes it will be," John answered.

The two brothers then left the castle and began to make their way to earth, so they could see Charlie once again.

Back on earth, Jake arrived at crystal bloom lake, where the water was crystal clear and the flowers around it were the first to bloom. However Jake didn't come here to admire the beauty the lake and surrounding land had to show. He had come here to find Charlie so he started walking around the area hoping he could come across him. After a few minutes a bright red glimmer caught Jake's eye. He looked into the tree-line where it came from, pushed some of the plants out of his way and saw the source of the glimmer. Standing in a tiny clearing was Charlie who was making some of the flowers in the bushes and on the ground bloom with his magic.

"Wow where'd you learn to do that?" Jake asked as he came into the clearing. When Charlie heard Jake's voice he jumped and turned around, hiding his hands behind his back.

With a more clear look at him Jake noticed that Charlie's hair had turned red half way with the top of his head still brown. He also noticed that his once blue eyes seemed to be developing a bright green.

"Oh Um ah-hey Jake! How long were you there for?" Charlie asked.

"Um not long, I just saw you making the flowers here bloom, how come?" Jake asked.

"Um, N-No reason! I-I just wanted to get some flowers for my wife," Charlie explained.

"Okay, well I want to talk to you about um, your magic," Jake said.

"Oh... oh, listen I'll tell you everything, but... I just gotta compose myself first," Charlie responded while rubbing his arm.

"Hey, that's not gonna work on me. Are you avoiding talking about this because of trauma in your past?" Jake questioned.

"W-What do you mean?" Charlie asked.

"Well, Smith suggested that you might've been traumatized by something in your childhood that made you distant from magic," Piccia explained.

"Oh... um well... Yeah I guess you could call it that," Charlie said.

"Alright well that does explain why you're hesitant to talk about it, but you can't avoid it forever, you know that right?" Piccia asked.

"Yeah I know... but it's just something I'm not proud of talking about," Charlie explained.

"I bet so, but Charlie we want and need answers, also I don't think Hannah or Daniel would be very happy if you told them everything. And maybe it could even help you out with your trauma behind it," Jake suggested.

Charlie thought about it for a moment, he wasn't sure if he wanted to recall that day, but he didn't want his children to be mad at him. Maybe even talking about it could allow him to recover from those horrific events.

"Why hello Charlie! It's so nice to see you again after all these years!" A familiar voice called out.

Charlie and Jake looked up in the trees where the voice had come from, when they saw who it was Jake's face became firm while Charlie's face turned to horror. It was Jack and John, both had wide evil grins on their faces.

"This day now seems to be going well for us brother. Not only do we get to say hello to our old friend, but we also get to fight and destroy the Green Squad," John said.

"Hehehe! Oh yes it has turned into a good day," Jack replied with his grin getting wider.

"Oh no! You're not destroying anyone today!" Jake declared.

"Yeah and I don't think I want to know your meaning of saying "hello" to someone!" Piccia exclaimed.

"Pha! Oh please, yes me and Jack here have failed in the past, but after a certain event from today we have decided to take a different approach to the fight," John explained.

"Really? Well whatever it is! I won't let it stop me from making sure you two don't hurt anyone!" Jake declared his voice full of determination.

"Well see about that, won't we kid!" Jack exclaimed psychotically.

The two brothers then grabbed each other's hand tightly, within the blink of an eye a black tar like mass surrounded the two brothers. Jake, Piccia, and Charlie all watched in horror as the brothers merged together into one entity. Once fully merged the tar like mass disappeared, allowed the three to see what Jack and John had turned into. For a moment Jake couldn't believe his eyes but standing right on the tree top where Jack and John had been was now a fusion of the two.

The fusion had both their hats combined in, their hair was twice as long now, their two outfits had merged together in both design and color, Jack's mask was still in the same place but now the right eye hole was see thru which showed John's normal eye and a little bit of sink. Jake could've sword that he could slightly make out the small amount of some scars on the parts of face that weren't covered by the skin.

"WHAT THE H?!" Jake screamed before he, Charlie, and Piccia were all thrown back by the brothers jumping down to the ground.

"Ugh! Jake Transform! You've gotta separate them!" Piccia instructed.

"Yeah! When two magical beings fuse together their strengths are combined, thus making the so much stronger!" Charlie informed me.

"I'll ask how you know that later Charlie!" Jake exclaimed before he stood up and showed off his glove. "Rainbow Power Action!" Jake called out and transformed into his Rainbow Squad form. Once transformed Jake got into a fighting stance ready to stop the brothers from harming anyone.

"HAHAHA! What makes you think you'll even stand a chance against us? We're much stronger now! And your puny powers are only meant for self defense!" The fusion declared.

"Well that might be true! But a shield can also be used as a weapon! You just need to know how to make it one!" Jake declared.

The fusion didn't take his words seriously and just charged into battle intending to destroy the Green Squad. The fusion raised one of their hands with sharp claws up in the air, and swiftly brought it down. Jake however blocked the attack with his shield, using all his might Jake threw the brothers off his shield. This threw the fusion off balance, allowing Jake to attack them right back. He threw his shield at them which smashed right into their face. The shield flew away like a frisbee, thankfully he knew that it would come back soon. Jack and John sat up and glared down at Jake with such fury and malice he's never seen before.

"You think you're so tough huh?! Well then we'll show you how tough we are!" The fusion declared furiously.

After they said that they jumped up in the air, and slammed right on the ground where Jake was standing. Charlie could only stare in horror as he didn't see if Jake had moved or not, so he didn't know if he was alright. Piccia had flown onto his shoulder when the fight had started so she was alright. When the dust cleared everyone saw that Jake was no longer in the spot the fusion was in. A stream of green leaves then flew in front of Charlie and Piccia before flying behind the fusion. The leaves instantly reformed into Jake, where he stomped onto the fusions back when his shield came back and Jake caught it with his amulet. He then started hitting the fusion on the back of the head with the shield using all his might. After getting about three hits in despite the attempts the fusion were making to get him off, Jake had hit them so hard on the third time that the hat's and mask all came off.

With the mask off their face the fusion let out a horrified scream as they covered their face. They spun around as hard as they could and this was enough to get Jake to fall off their back. Seeing this Charlie ran to Jake and caught the boy in his arms before he made contact with the ground.

"Jake, are you okay?" Piccia asked, worried about her student.

"Yeah I'm fine, thanks for the save Charlie," Jake said, grateful to Charlie for catching him.

"Your welcome, after all I couldn't forgive myself if you had gotten hurt," Charlie explained as he gently placed Jake down on the ground.

"REALLY! YOU COULDN'T FORGIVE YOURSELF IF HE GOT HURT!?" The fusion screamed as his voice sounded more like Jacks.

The trio turned around and saw that the fusion started twitching, their back turned to them. The brothers then separated in the same way they did before, but in reverse and they both fell to the ground. Jack stood up, covered up his with both his hands, before turning around to face the three. When he faced them Jake saw that Jack's eyes were completely black along with a number of scars on the visible parts of his upper face.

"WELL THEN WHAT ABOUT US! AND ME! DO YOU FEEL GUILTY FOR THE ACCIDENT CHARLIE! DO YOU OR HAVE YOU JUST MOVED ON WITH YOUR LIFE AND THREW US AWAY?!" Jack questioned furiously as he stomped closer to the three, not even bothering to grab his mask.

"N-No! I-I've always thought of you two! Everyday I'm still haunted by those memories and the events, the accident, the hospital! Everything! I can't get it out of my head!" Charlie explained, desperate to calm Jack's anger.

"OH really? You do? HA! What a joke you've gone on to have a wife and family! I wanted those too but because of you I was scared for life and unable to ever take my mask off because of that accident!" Jack cried out as he got closer.

Jake could see that same black tar substance began to stream down Jack's cheeks. However he didn't have much time to stare as Jack inched closer to them, with each step Jake saw black roots peeking out of Jack's hands.

"Not only that but thanks to you me and my brother have to keep this hate, and negativity at bay! Because if it gets out then it'll destroy everything and everyone!" Jack screamed as he got closer and closer.

"I-I'm sorry! D-Dad tried to go back to save you, but he was too late and the lab collapsed! I cried so much and screamed that he should've saved you two instead of me!" Charlie exclaimed.

"Well he made his choice! And here I was thinking he was our friend! But he abandoned us! Left us for dead! So now it's time we take revenge!" Jack declared.

"Yes it is, after all Charlie, that day where Jack took your wings was just scratching the surface," John declared as he got up with both his and Jack's hat in his hand, alongside Jack's mask.

"Wait hold up! Wings?! Charlie, you had wings?!" Jake asked.

"Oh yes he did! Beautiful angel wings! The same ones his little girls have! But after the accident I tore them right off! Now they're up in my room as my personal trophy!" Jack explained with much pride in his voice.

"Alright that's just messed up and enough!" Jake exclaimed.

"Oh I forgot you existed. Well child, why don't you stay out of this!" John demanded.

"No I won't! You're threatening to hurt Charlie and I'm not going to stand here and listen to another word from you two! I might not know what you're talking about but I won't let you torment Charlie with his past anymore!" Jake declared as he started glowing bright green.

"Really? Well why would you even define him in the first place?" Jack asked.

"Yeah after all if you learned about what happened and what he did, maybe you'll see things from our perspective!" John declared.

"Well whatever it is! I can see Charlie regrets it dearly and the guilt and trauma from that day is eating away at him. It's also kept him from his magical past for a long time and no one should be deprived of their past because of trauma! So I'll stand up for those who suffer from trauma that keeps them away from their past! And most importantly I'll help them through it all no matter how hard the road maybe I'll support and help victims of trauma all throughout the way!" Jake announced as he glowed bright green.

A pair of angel wings then formed on his back much to the amazement of Piccia and Charlie. Jake raised his hand and a green zinnia flower appeared in front of him, a green blast was fired out of the flower. It immediately made contact with Jack and John who both screamed in pain before teleporting away. Now with the two brothers gone the flower Jake had summoned disappeared and Jake collapsed on the ground.

"Oh god that's exhausting!" Jake exclaimed feeling incredibly tired.

"I bet you did an amazing job today Jake, I'm so proud of you," Piccia praised.

"T-Thanks Piccia," Jake said while smiling.

He and Piccia then looked up to Charlie and saw he was now lost in thought. Both were curious to what the man was thinking about, as what Jack had said was very strange and vague.

Charlie then looked down at the two and said, "Jake, Piccia I made a decision, please tell the others that tomorrow afternoon, I'll explain everything to everyone."
