Chapter 16: Going to Aeatria

As Thunder and I began moving, I did my best to look like I knew what I was doing. But it didn't take long for my grip to tighten on the reins, my back to stiffen, and my legs to grip Thunder like I was holding on for dear life. Soarin rode beside me, his mouth twitching like he was desperately trying not to laugh.

"Alright, Dash," he said, amused, "you're riding Thunder, not wrestling him. Just loosen up a bit."

I shot him a glare. "Easy for you to say, 'Mr. Expert Rider.' Some of us weren't born on a horse."

Thunder gave a loud, dramatic sigh. "She's got a point, Soarin. But then again, she also doesn't need to choke the life out of me."

"Oh, don't you start," I muttered, surprised. "Since when do you give riding critiques?"

"Since you decided to ride me like I'm some kind of wild beast," Thunder said, his tone almost playful. "You know, I'm quite capable of carrying you without the added... wrestling."

Soarin laughed, nodding toward Thunder. "You heard him, Dash. Maybe just trust the guy a little. I promise, he's a natural."

I huffed, adjusting my grip. "Fine. How's this, Thunder? Better?"

"Much better," Thunder replied smoothly, glancing back at me. "Now if you can just keep it that way, I'll make sure you stay right where you are. Deal?"

I smirked. "Deal."

As we continued, Soarin leaned over with that infuriating grin of his. "Look at you, taking orders from a horse. Maybe you're softer than I thought."

I rolled my eyes. "Oh, please. If I wanted to, I could out-ride you in five minutes."

Lily, who was trotting along with us, let out a soft snicker. "Sure, Princess. We'll be holding our breath waiting for that."

"Oh, you all think you're so funny," I muttered, feeling my cheeks warm a bit.

Soarin nudged his horse closer, his eyes dancing with mischief. "C'mon, Dash. Just think of it like flying. You don't control the air, right? You just move with it."

Thunder snorted. "Good comparison, Soarin. If she treated me like the air, we might have a smooth ride."

I grumbled, but I adjusted again, this time focusing on moving with Thunder's rhythm. And, okay, it actually felt... better. Less bouncy, and more like Thunder and I were in sync.

"See?" Soarin said, giving me a wink. "All it took was a little trust. I always knew you had it in you."

I raised an eyebrow. "Oh, yeah? Guess you'll have to watch out—I might just beat you in a race soon."

"Confident, are we?" Lily chimed in, tossing her mane. "One decent ride and suddenly you're the expert."

"Okay, you two. Enough from the peanut gallery!" I laughed, easing back in the saddle with a bit more confidence.

We continued like that for a while, the palace slowly coming into view in the distance. Thunder and Lily kept up their occasional commentary, and Soarin—well, he didn't let a single wobble from me go without some teasing remark.

Eventually, I managed to find a decent rhythm. Soarin glanced over, surprised but smiling. "Not bad, Dash. Maybe there's hope for you yet."

"Is that supposed to be a compliment?" I asked, raising an eyebrow.

"Take it however you like," he replied, smirking. "Besides, we've got plenty of time to get you in racing shape. Just let me know when you're ready to try keeping up."

Thunder gave a huff, almost like he was laughing too. "With training like this, Princess, you might even get Soarin off his high horse."

I smirked back at Soarin. "I'll take that challenge."

As we approached, a swirling mist appeared before us, glowing with an ethereal light that seemed to pulse in rhythm with the quiet whispers of the forest. We approached the misty, ethereal glow, I could feel the air grow cooler, almost charged with energy. The swirling lights seemed alive, pulsing softly as if waiting for us to enter.

"Whoa," I murmured, glancing at Soarin. "Is that... the entrance to Aeatria?"

He nodded, a hint of pride in his voice. "Yep! That's the gateway to your kingdom. You ready to see it?"

I took a deep breath, excitement bubbling in my chest. "You bet I am! What's the hold-up? Let's go!"

Soarin chuckled, shaking his head. "You might want to hold onto Thunder a little tighter. This part can be a bit... intense."

Thunder shifted beneath me, flicking his ears. "I've got you covered, Princess Angeline. Just remember to trust the journey."

"Easy for you to say, you've done this before!" I shot back, tightening my grip as I leaned forward. "Just don't leave me hanging if things get crazy."

With a grin, Soarin urged his horse forward, and I followed suit. As we entered the swirling mist, the world around us shimmered and blurred, colors merging into a dazzling display.

"Whoa!" I gasped as we plunged deeper into the glow, feeling the energy wrap around us like a warm embrace. "This is amazing!"

"It's pretty special," Soarin admitted, his eyes sparkling. "It's a gateway that connects our realms. Just wait until you see Aeatria."

The mist parted, revealing a vibrant landscape bursting with colors and life. Towering trees draped with flowers lined the pathways, while a shimmering river snaked through the valleys. I couldn't help but stare in awe.

"Look at this place!" I exclaimed, my heart racing with wonder. "It's incredible!"

As we rode forward, Lily trotted alongside us, her eyes twinkling with mischief. "I can already tell you're going to fit right in, Princess. Just wait until you see the castle. Soarin might get a little jealous of all the attention you'll get!"

I shot her a playful glare. "Oh, please. Soarin knows I'm the star here."

Soarin laughed, rolling his eyes. "Just remember, Dash, you're the one who has to learn how to rule this place. I'll just sit back and enjoy the show."

I smiled, feeling a surge of confidence. "Challenge accepted!"

As we emerged from the trees, the vibrant kingdom of Aeatria unfolded before us, bathed in the warm glow of the afternoon sun. The air was filled with the sweet scent of flowers, and laughter echoed from the streets. The sights and sounds were overwhelming, but in the best possible way.

Before I could even take it all in, a group of children spotted us. Their faces lit up with joy, and in an instant, they sprinted toward us. 'Soarin! Soarin!' they yelled, their voices a chorus of excitement.

Soarin's eyes widened with surprise, but he quickly knelt down, arms open wide. The kids tackled him in a flurry of hugs, laughing and chatting all at once. I couldn't help but smile at the scene.

"Who's that with you?" one little girl asked, peering around Soarin's leg to get a better look at me.

"Yeah, who is she?" another boy chimed in, his big eyes full of curiosity.

"This is Rainbow Dash, your future queen!" Soarin said, a teasing glint in his eye.

"Future queen?!" the children gasped, their voices filled with awe.

I felt a blush creep up my cheeks as they all turned to me, their eyes sparkling. "Nice to meet you all!" I waved, trying to keep my cool.

Before I knew it, the kids were running toward me too, hugging my legs and giggling. "Are you really going to be our queen?" a girl with braids asked, looking up at me with wide eyes.

"Um, yeah! I guess so!" I replied, trying to sound more confident than I felt.

Just then, the adults began to gather around, drawn in by the commotion. They were smiling, some whispering to each other, while others looked on with pride. An older man stepped forward, bowing slightly. "Welcome, Princess Rainbow Dash. We've been eagerly awaiting your return to Aeatria."

"Thank you!" I replied, trying to match his formality. "It's great to be here!"

A woman chimed in, her voice warm and welcoming. "We've heard so much about you. You're a hero to the children, you know. They talk about you all the time!"

"Yeah!" one of the boys shouted. "We can't wait to have you as our queen!"

I chuckled nervously, but my heart swelled with a strange mix of joy and pressure. I was their future queen? What did that even mean?

Soarin stepped beside me, a proud smile on his face. "You'll be great, Dash. Just remember to be yourself."

"Yeah, because that's always worked out so well for me," I muttered, though I appreciated his confidence in me.

As the crowd began to cheer, I felt the weight of their expectations settling in. But as I looked at the smiling faces, especially those of the children who had run to greet us, I realized I wouldn't be alone in this journey.

With Soarin by my side and the warmth of Aeatria surrounding me, I felt a flicker of hope. Maybe I could do this after all.

As the cheers from the crowd settled, the kids bounced on their feet, eyes sparkling with excitement. "Can we show you around, Princess Rainbow Dash?" one boy asked, practically bouncing in place.

"Yeah! You have to see all the fun places!" another girl added, her braids swaying with enthusiasm.

I exchanged a glance with Soarin, who shrugged with an amused smile. "Looks like you're in demand, Princess. How can you say no to that?"

"Alright, let's do this!" I declared, grinning as I knelt down to meet the kids' eager faces. "Lead the way!"

Without hesitation, the group of children grabbed my hands, pulling me down the path through the bustling streets. "This is the market!" a girl exclaimed, pointing to the colorful stalls filled with fresh fruits, flowers, and handmade trinkets.

"Wow, it's amazing!" I gasped, taking in the vibrant colors and the friendly chatter of the townsfolk.

As we moved along, I felt a tug at my side. Soarin laughed, "Come on, Dash! You can't ditch me already!"

"Hey! I'm not ditching you; I just have a royal tour to lead!" I shot back, trying to sound serious but unable to suppress a smile.

The kids giggled and tugged on his arm too. "You have to come, Soarin! You're part of the royal group!"

With a resigned chuckle, Soarin joined us, and we moved deeper into the heart of Aeatria.

"Over here! This is our playground!" a boy exclaimed, leading us to a lively area filled with children laughing and playing.

"Look, there's the swing!" one of the girls pointed. "You can show us how you used to swing so high, Rainbow!"

I grinned, the memories surfacing. "I was the best swing jumper around!"

As we moved, Thunder and Lily trotted alongside us, their expressions mischievous.

"Seems like the kids have claimed the new princess," Thunder commented, a teasing glint in his eyes. "And Soarin's just the plus-one."

"Hey, I'm here for moral support!" Soarin shot back, feigning offense.

"More like a royal babysitter," Lily chimed in, a playful tone in her voice. "Can you handle all these little ones, oh mighty king?"

Soarin rolled his eyes but laughed. "I've trained for worse. Just wait until they start asking me for riding lessons."

"They're probably going to ask Rainbow for flying lessons!" Thunder added, his voice playful and teasing. "Oh, wait, she can't fly!"

I shot them a mock glare. "Very funny! I'm going to show you both I can do this. Just wait!"

The kids giggled at our banter, and I couldn't help but join in the laughter. The energy of the kingdom was infectious, and I felt more at home with every step.

As the tour continued, I realized how much I had missed out on in my childhood. As the kids led the way, chattering excitedly about the sights of Aeatria, I couldn't help but smile. Their energy was infectious, and for a moment, I felt like I belonged. But just as I was starting to get lost in the joy of it all, Soarin cleared his throat, bringing me back to reality.

"Alright, everyone, as fun as this is," he said, trying to keep his tone light, "We need to get Rainbow Dash to her palace. You can't have a queen wandering around without her royal duties, right?"

The kids groaned but nodded in understanding. "Do we have to?" one little boy asked, his big eyes pleading.

"Yes, you do!" Soarin replied, a grin spreading across his face. "But don't worry! You'll get to see her again soon. And maybe, just maybe, I can convince her to come back for a visit. Right, Dash?"

I chuckled, my heart warming at the thought. "Absolutely! I'd love to come back and hang out with you all. Maybe we can have a flying contest... oh wait!" I shot a teasing look at Soarin, who was shaking his head. "I mean... horse riding contest."

The kids giggled at my slip, and I knew they liked me already. But before the fun could continue, Soarin gently ushered me toward the horses. Thunder and Lily stood patiently, their saddles glimmering under the sun.

Just then, Thunder chimed in, his voice surprisingly playful. "You know, Soarin only wants her to finish the tour so that he can have Rainbow all to himself!"

Soarin's eyes widened in mock horror, and I couldn't help but burst out laughing. "Hey, that's not true!" he protested, trying to sound offended but failing miserably as a grin crept onto his face.

The kids giggled at Thunder's teasing, and I felt a warmth in my chest. It was nice to see Soarin in a lighthearted moment, and Thunder's banter added to the fun. "What's wrong with wanting to show my princess her new home?" he added, attempting to regain his composure.

"Since when did I become yours??" I practically shouted and he shrugged it off

"Just make sure you don't hog her all to yourself, or we might have to plan a rescue mission!" Thunder teased back, causing more laughter to erupt from the kids.

"Yeah!" one of the little girls piped up, her eyes sparkling with mischief. "We'll come get her if you try to keep her all to yourself!"

"Alright, alright!" Soarin laughed, shaking his head as we started moving again. "I promise I'll share her with all of you. But first, we really should get her to the palace."

With that, we continued on, the lighthearted banter and excitement of the day filling the air as we rode towards my new home. I could feel the joy in every moment, knowing this was just the beginning of something wonderful.

"Come on, let's hop on," Soarin said, reaching for Thunder's reins. "Time to show you your new palace."

"Right," I said, swinging my leg over Thunder's back with a bit more grace than I thought I had. I turned to see the kids still watching with wide eyes. "You guys can come visit me anytime, you know!"

As Soarin mounted Lily, he winked at me. "Just make sure you practice riding, or else I'll have to take you everywhere. And trust me, the royal horses don't like being told to go slow."

I rolled my eyes playfully. "Oh, please, I'll have this down in no time!"

With that, we set off, the kids waving goodbye as we trotted toward the palace. I could feel the excitement bubbling inside me as I took in the vibrant colors and bustling sounds of Aeatria. It was all so enchanting, and I couldn't wait to see my palace and start this new chapter of my life.

As we rode through the gates, I looked at Soarin, who was focused on guiding Lily. "So, what's my palace like?" I asked, eager for any hints.

"It's even better than you remember," he replied, his voice warm with affection. "You're going to love it."
