Chapter 42: Always you
Deanna's P.O.V
(Going back a bit)
Pepper screamed as another gun shot sounded and a blue light crashed into me and Beth, sending us both flying through the air. As the light connected with my body something in my left knee cracked causing me to cry out in pain. The pain burnt inside my knee immensely.
The bow I held fell from my grasp and the arrows all fell from the quiver. My mind then went blank for a moment. The next thing my mind processed was my back being slammed into something solid and a popping noise coming from my right shoulder causing more pain invaded my body.
A whimper escaped my lips as the pain worsened. I couldn't move. My left knee and right should had been hurt really badly and my head was spinning from the impact. Black began invading the corners of my eyes but soon disappeared as the Hulk roared and I jolted in painful shock.
Another whimper escaped my lips as I sat motionless for what seemed like forever. Just then two blurry figures entered my vision making me aware of the tears that streamed down my face and the constant whimpers falling from my lips. My whole body continued to burn in pain.
"Shit!" A voice, Clint's voice, yelled from above me. "Deanna keep your eyes on me okay. Listen to my voice."
"What happened?!" Natasha's voice asked as the red head joined a Clint and who I guessed was Bruce in my line of sight.
"She's dislocated her left knee and right shoulder. We're going to have to snap them back into place before we move her." Bruce replied. The explanation and idea he implied made me feel sick but I was in too much pain to register the feeling properly.
"I'll go tell the others and help the find Beth." Natasha said with a nod before disappearing.
"Beth?" I asked, worried for my friend and not so much my condition.
"It's okay, they'll find her." Clint hushed.
"Pepper?" I questioned. The PA had became a mother figure to me after I lost my family, like a second (well third because of my step-Mom) Mom.
"She's okay, Tony kept her safe." Clint said gently as two hands were placed just above and just below my knee.
"Deanna I'm going to need you to breath and squeeze Hawks hand." Bruce commanded. Whimpering, I nodded and did I was told. Bruce began to count down from three. When he hit 'one' pressure was put in my knee and it snapped again, the sound raining in my ears.
The pain was unbearable. Before I could stop it a scream ripped through my throat and I began to shake slightly. "It's okay, once more" The doctor coded, has hands moving from my knee (that he had bandaged while I was screaming) to my right shoulder. I groaned in pain slightly.
The count down began again and I bit my lip. 'One'. That word sent more pain through my body as my should slid back into place. Another one of my screams traveled down the streets while Bruce wrapped my shoulder up to. My body was now shaking violently from the pain.
"I'll go and get the others. Get Deanna to the car we came in and lay her on the back seats. That way I can keep her comfortable on the way back to the tower." Bruce instructed as he stood to his feet and hurried away.
"Why is it always you huh?" Clint asked with a light chuckle.
"Fuck off, you should know what it's like." I mumbled. "Being a trained assassin brings draw backs and dangers. But I'll tell you one thing. I'm done with days off. I'm done with down time. I'm so fucking- ow!" Clint cut off my rant by gently (although it still hurt) picking me up bridal style.
"I'm sorry." He apologised as he began to walk towards where I'm guessing the car was. After a few minuets I heard a car door open and Bruce mumble something to Clint. I was carefully yet painfully lay in the back seats before Clint jumped in the drivers seat and Bruce in the passenger.
I drifted into a painless sleep as we traveled back to the tower. The day's events behind me.
