A Crowd Has No Name (RiturajGogoi)
A Crowd Has No Name
Ask a woman if she has ever felt
A hand sliding under her skirts
An elbow grinding on her bust
In a crowd or a public bus.
Ask her if she has ever felt
The staring of lustful eyes
As her screams subside
Under the will of shameless men.
Dormant evil uprises from opportunity
That smashes cars in the name of freedom
That burns houses in the name of justice
That rapes a girl in the name of revenge.
You really begin to question humanity
When a rape occurs twice every hour
When 30% of child abusers are family
And 60% are their friends.
They say, "We are not to blame,
A crowd has no name
Meat Phones Uniforms Jeans
Victims Alcohol Noodles Mannequins
Are the real reasons for this shame".
I say" Fuck you and your retarded brain!
That treat women with disdain
Somewhere down the road
You had done just the same".
We scratch the crust but not the core
We don't bother when there is no gore
A human tragedy, a pyrrhic victory
The need to fulfil one's thirst
At the expense of other's misery.
Note from the poet: This poem was written after the Bangalore molestation incident that took place on new year's eve. I was really pissed off.
