The New Girl: Chapter 9
Outside the house, Kenny was sitting in his car after returning from his hangout with Roman and Cody. He sat there and looked through a few old photos he had of Kota. He tried his best to hold back the tears but he couldn't stop the pain that he felt in his heart. He opened his contacts and contemplated calling Kota. There were so many things he wanted to tell him, to explain to him.. but he couldn't bring himself to do it. He locked his phone and tried to wipe away his tears. That's when he looked in his rearview mirror and saw his friend Seth walking down the driveway.
"What the-?" Kenny asked himself.
Seth was trying his best to hurry back to his car before anyone saw him.
"Seth?" Kenny asked as he got out of his car.
Seth looked over in surprise when he saw Kenny.
"What are you doing here?" Kenny asked as he walked towards him.
"Me? Um.. I was just bringing Miz a book he left at school." Seth lied to him.
Kenny watched his friend for a moment with skepticism.
"Have you been crying man?" Seth asked suddenly.
"What? No." Kenny assured him.
Seth looked at his friend with sympathetic eyes.
"I've gotta get inside." Kenny told him before hurrying away.
Across town, Kota was making his last delivery of the night. He hadn't eaten since lunch at school and he was starving. Smelling all the pizza on the drive was certainly not helping his hunger. It wasn't until he pulled up to the address of the last delivery that he realized who's house it was. Kota sighed and looked out at the large, stone house. He grabbed the two boxes of pizza and began making his way up the driveway. Kota run the doorbell and waited with a frustrating look on his face. Suddenly, someone opened the door. It was Cody.
"Tweny two fifty." Kota told him.
Cody let out a small laugh and pulled out his wallet. He handed Kota a hundred dollar bill.
"Something wrong?" Cody asked in response to Kota's reaction.
"I don't have change for this." Kota told him.
"Don't worry about it." Cody said.
Kota looked up at him, trying to figure out what game he was playing.
"You know if you wanna reconsider tutoring me, I can pay a lot more than that." Cody told him.
Kota rolled his eyes.
"Wouldn't it be nice to stop working all those hours delivering pizza?" Cody asked.
"I told you I'm not doing it." Kota told him again.
"What do you make there? Ten? Eleven an hour? I can double what you make in a week and you'd be doing half the work." Cody offered him.
Kota stopped for a moment and gave Cody a curious look.
"I'm desperate here.. Just take the deal." Cody told him.
"Only under one condition." Kota said surprisingly.
Cody let out a sigh of relief.
"Of course, anything." Cody assured him.
"You have to leave my friends alone.. For real this time." Kota told him.
Cody furrowed his eyes in confusion.
"Your friends?" Cody asked.
"Yes, my friends. Alexa, Dean and Becky.. I want you to leave them all alone." Kota insisted.
"You've known the new girl for like a second, I don't think she qualifies as-." Cody began to say before Kota interupted him.
"That's my one condition. Take it or leave it." Kota said.
Cody looked at him for a moment, knowing that he should be lucky Kota was even considering helping him.
"Fine. You've got a deal." Cody said.
"Tomorrow after school at the library. Email me copies of your last three essay's tonight." Kota told him with a bit of reluctance before trying to walk away.
"Wait." Cody stopped him.
Kota looked back with frustration.
"This one's for you." Cody said as he handed him one of the boxes of pizza.
Kota gave a confusing look.
"I saw you at the pizzeria earlier, you looked hungry." Cody said.
Kota was in a bit of shock at Cody's offering.
"Just take it." Cody told him.
Kota was a little conflicted to say the least. He'd been working for hours on end since leaving school and hadn't eaten since lunch time. He was starving.. but to accept food from the one person who has made his life a living hell for the past five years wasn't something he could do.
"Don't for get to send the essay'd." Kota said before walking away without the pizza.
Cody let out an impressive laugh as he watched Kota return to his car and drive away.
Just a few streets over, Dean pulled up to Renee's house with her in the passenger seat. She'd been crying nearly the entire drive back from the hotel and Dean wasn't really sure what to say.
"Do you.. wanna talk about it?" Dean asked her.
"Not really, I just want to be alone for a little bit." Renee told him with a bit of guilt.
Dean couldn't help but be disappointed.
"That's okay, I completely understand. But hey, if you need anything at all just call me, okay?" Dean asked her.
Renee looked into his eyes and let out a soft smile.
"I'm really sorry about tonight. I forgot about the photo shoot with Mella and thought inviting you would have made up for everything instead of me just bailing completely..but now with all this drama.." Renee began to tell him.
"No, it's okay. She's your best friend, you care about her.. Don't apologize for that." Dean told her.
Renee nodded with another smile.
"Thank you for bringing me home." Renee told him.
"Anytime." Dean said.
An awkward silence filled the car for a moment before Renee finally got out. Dean opened his mouth like he was going to say something but she walked off before he could get anything out.
Once Dean drove off, Renee walked around the side of the house and grabbed her bike. She took off down the opposite side of the street with urgency.
At Seth's house, he was just getting out of the shower when he checked his phone, hoping for a message from Becky. He'd just tied a towel around his waist when he heard a knock on his bedroom door.
"One second mom!" Seth told her impatiently.
"It's me." Renee said from the hallway.
Seth rushed over and opened the door for Renee.
"Hey, what's up?" Seth asked.
"I got in a fight with Mella." Renee told him.
Seth let out a small laugh and began searching for clothes in his dresser while Renee got comfy on his bed.
"What this time? You forget to compliment her on her shoes?" Seth joked.
"Seth.." Renee said seriously.
He looked back and saw the tears swelling up in Renee's eyes.
"Hey, hey hey.. I'm right here." Seth assured her as he rushed to her side.
"She hates me." Renee cried out.
Seth wrapped his arms around her and hugged her tight.
When Dean got home that night he made his way down to his bedroom in the basement of his father's house and got changed into something more comfortable. He'd just gotten settled in bed when his phone buzzed.
"Renee said she wanted to be alone tonight but maybe it just wasn't you that she wanted to be with."

Dean thought to himself for a moment, thinking over the anonymous text he'd just received. It wasn't long after that he decided to give Renee a call.
At Seth's house, he'd gone downstairs to make pb&j sandwiches while Renee got a movie ready for them to watch. She was looking over the comedy section on Netflix when her phone rang. It was Dean. She picked up the phone with caution.
"Hello?" Renee asked a little quietly.
"Hey.. uh, how're you doing?" Dean asked curiously.
"I'm doing okay." Renee said shortly.
"I was just calling to check in on you.. I wanted to make sure everything was good." Dean told her.
Renee looked around the room anxiously.
"Yeah, everything is good." Renee assured him.
"Okay.. I guess I'll talk to you tomorrow then?" Dean asked.
"Yep. Talk to you later." Renee say before hanging up the phone in a hurry.
"Bye." Dean said before realizing she had already ended the call.
"Alright! Two Pb&j sandwiches with extra peanut butter and a side of almond milk." Seth said as he handed Renee a food tray."
"Thank you." Renee told him.
"Were you just on the phone with someone?" Seth asked curiously.
Renee looked at him and froze for a moment.
"Um.. yeah. It was Dean." Renee told him.
"Oh, really?" Seth asked a little skeptically.
Renee saw the look in Seth's eyes and felt like now wasn't the right time to mention he had asked her out.
"He was asking a question about the essay exam we have in a few weeks." Renee lied.
"Oh, right, yeah those things are a pain in the ass." Seth said with a relieving laugh.
Renee let out an awkward smile, not understanding why she didn't want to tell him the truth.
At the Van Dale's house Carmella was home alone just as she was nearly every night. She was in bed, wishing she had her best friend by her side. Carmella began looking at photo's of herself and Renee on her phone. It pained her after what had happened earlier that night. She felt abandoned and unwanted. Even though Carmella always felt alone, she couldn't help but feel a little more lonely tonight.
erritory On the eastside, at Drew's bar and grill. April was just finishing up her shift. A few books from Fitsgerald Prep were laid out behind the counter so she could study when she had the chance. Once the clock struck ten o'clock, she put her books away and began wiping down the counters.
Just down the street, a few members of a very dominant gang known as the Eastside Profits, were meeting at an old bar on the corner of 10th street. Everyone knew that 10th street was their territory but as long as you kept your head down and minded your own business then you wouldn't be messed with. Growing up on the Eastside, April was well aware of how to avoid trouble with the Profits. That night after she finished closing down at the grill, she grabbed her things and made her way outside. The street was empty and dark with only a few flickering street lights. She locked the door to the grill and began walking down the street. She lived only a few blocks away but every night she dreaded her route past the Profits territory.
April put her head down as she crossed onto 10th street. She kept her eyes on the ground as she began to approach the bar. Music and a few shouting voices could be heard from inside. It was when April heard a familiar voice that she dared to look up from the ground. She took a quick peak at the window looking into the bar as she walked by. Her eyes widened in surprise when she saw Roman Reigns inside. While mid-conversation with a Profits member, he thought he saw something out of the corner of his eye. Roman glanced over to find April peaking in the window. She threw her head back down in a panic and began rushing down the street. Roman ran through the bar and made his way outside, only to find her nowhere in sight. He thought to himself for a moment with a bit of panic himself. It was just a few feet away where April had found an alley to hide in for the moment. She held her things close as her heart pounded in fear.
At Sasha's house, she was getting ready for bed after dinner with her father. Once she got into her pajama's for the night her phone rang. It was Becky.
"Hello?" Sasha asked.
"What's up, Ace?" Becky asked.
Sasha let out a slight smile to herself.
"Just getting ready for bed, you?" Sasha asked as she laid down on her bed.
"Same. You busy tomorrow?" Becky asked her.
"Tomorrow?" Sasha said as she thought to herself. "No, I don't think so, why?"
"Good, because we're hanging out. Meet me after school." Becky told her.
Sasha shook her head with a smile still on her face.
"Sweet dreams, Ace." Becky said in a rather sexy voice before hanging up.
Sasha put the phone down and took a deep breath, trying to get the butterflies out of her stomach.
At August and Kathleen's house, Kenny was downstairs making himself a snack when Becky walked down.
"Have you been crying?" Becky asked as she sat down at the counter.
Kenny didn't respond but Becky could see that he was upset about something.
"Boy troubles?" Becky suggested.
Kenny looked over at his adoptive sister, signaling that she guessed correctly.
"You know I don't get you. It's pretty obvious that you're in love Kota.. Yet you do everything you can to push him away. No offense but that pretty fucking stupid on your part." Becky told him as she examined her nails.
Kenny was a little taken back by Becky's straight forwardness.
"I mean you are still in love with him, aren't you?" Becky asked.
Kenny shook his head.
"It doesn't matter.. That's not.. That's not the point." Kenny told her.
"Then what is the point?" Becky asked.
Kenny looked to her with helplessness.
"I should get to bed." Kenny said as he grabbed his snack and walked away.
Becky thought to herself for a moment, not understanding why Kenny was trying so hard to push away the one person that meant everything to him.
Once Kenny reached the top of the stairs, his phone buzzed.
"It hurts when those closest to you lie to your face. Are you sure Seth was really there to bring Miz a book?"
-Anonymous
Kenny thought to himself for a moment, remembering his conversation with Seth earlier that night.
Just down the hall, Another Cinderella Story was coming to an end in the movie room. Miz was sitting on one end of the sofa while Alexa sat on the other. He couldn't help but laugh at the ending. When he looked over to Alexa, he saw that she had fallen asleep. Miz watched her for a moment, not knowing she was only pretending to be asleep to avoid any awkwardness. He let out a soft smile and grabbed a blanket from behind the couch. He covered her up and gave her another look with caring eyes. Miz finally shut off the tv and left the room.
"Movie night?" Kenny asked.
Miz jumped in fright at the sight of his friend.
"Oh god, you scared the hell out of me man." Miz said as he made sure the door behind him was shut so he didn't see that Alexa was inside.
Kenny gave his friend a confusing look for a moment.
"Um.. Seth was here earlier.." Kenny began to say.
"He was?" Miz asked.
Kenny's face turned serious.
"Yes, he was. He said he brought you a book." Kenny said accusingly.
"Oh right! Yeah, yeah.. I remember now. He brought me a book earlier." Miz tried to play it cool.
"What book?" Kenny asked.
"Hmm?" Miz tried to stall.
"What book did he bring you?" Kenny asked.
"Cinderella." Miz accidentally blurted out.
Kenny squinted his eyes in confusion.
"Cinderella?" Kenny asked.
"Mhm." Miz let out.
Kenny looked Miz up and down with skepticism before walking away.
Back on the eastside, April had finally made it home for the night. She walked inside and put her things down.
"Dad?" April yelled throughout the house. "Dad are you in here?"
"I'm still here, not dead yet." April's father, Gabriel told her.
April shook head at her father's comment.
"Have you taken your medication today?" April asked as she went to the kitchen and began preparing a frozen meal.
"Yes, I took the medication, Aj." Gabriel said from his recliner.
"Are you lying to me?" April asked.
"Maybe." Gabriel said stubbornly.
April let out a small laugh and grabbed the medication from the cabinet made a glass of water. Gabriel watched as she walked into the living room and handed him his medication. He let out a sigh and took it from her. April waited for him to put the pill in his mouth before handing him the water. He took a drink and swallowed the pill, opening his mouth wide afterward to show his daughter that he digested it.
"That wasn't so hard now was it." April told him.
Gabriel took a deep breath and continued watching his favorite show, Andy Griffith. April went back to the kitchen and got the frozen meal she had prepared. She walked it in to her father.
"Thank you, Sora." Gabriel said as he took the food.
April froze for a moment and watched her father. The moment she felt her eyes begin to tear up she walked away, knowing that she had a lot of studying to do. April made her way into the kitchen and began taking out her books. She cleared the table and put her hair up before sitting down to study. That's when her phone buzzed.
"You've been here for one day and you already know Starboy, Roman Reigns' deepest secret, that deserves some respect. But what about you? What secrets are you keeping, Aj? Don't worry, I'll cut you some slack since you're new but soon enough the gloves are coming off. Welcome to the game sweetheart ;)"
