Chapter Three: A Strange Meeting
A/n: To those who read my fanfiction, I'm happy that you enjoyed it! ❤️
The next day, Eragon was suddenly awakened by Saphira while both of them were still curled on her nest. The air was cold and freezing but he knew that there wasn't that much of a threat until he heard a knock on his door. It was still dark and the sun was still rising when he heard one of the elves who's with him in Mount Arngor knocking on his door. He rose to his feet, combed his hair, and did his best to look presentable for that day.
'Wake yourself up more, Eragon!' Saphira scowled.
Saphira? Who do you think would wake us up this early? Eragon asked her.
Just open it. Maybe there's more news about the dragon eggs.
You're at the age you'd want to mate. I'll be very envious if ever you meet your dragon partner.
Are you still in love with Arya?
Eragon smiled. That I am, Saphira. I still like her but I can't even court her. You know that I don't want to destroy my friendship with her.
Coward. Saphira chuckled.
At the time he had opened the door, he realized that the elf who was knocking was one of his close apprentices, Eohorim. He let him in his room after the elf gave him due respect. He placed two fingers on his lips and gave him a curtsy. "Astra esterni ono thelduin."
Eragon smiled. "Atra du everinya ono varda."
Eohorim was still kneeling when he ended his greeting to his master. He also greeted Saphira when he saw her. "Un atra mor'ranr lifa unin hjarta onr."
"Why have you woken me this early?" Eragon asked him. "Is there any good reason why?"
"I have come here to deliver some news, Eragon-elda. Blodgharm wanted me to inform you that a half-elf who worked from the Empire of Dongnaia had arrived and he was seeking sanctuary here. He has brought a bronze egg with him."
Eragon was surprised by the news. It struck him to know that a citizen from the Empire of Dongnaia will seek him. The empire was the country that tried to invade the elves' homes. "Let him in after inspecting his mind as the war in Du Weldenvarden had only recently ended. We don't want enemies entering the dragonhold."
Eohorim inclined his head and went off immediately. "As you wish, sir. We will make sure that he wasn't someone sent to attack us."
Eragon walked closer to Saphira and touched her wings. What do you think about the bronze egg?
You will have to inspect the egg. We need to know if it is also looking for a rider or a wild one. Saphira snorted and continued her outbursts. It is a dragon egg that came from another empire. The egg wasn't in Vroengard. As you have told me before, dragons could not just be in Alagaesia.
I agree, Saphira. I need to investigate the egg he brought.
...
Even if the young man looked like an elf, Blödgharm and Eohorim can't trust him since he bore the dragon crest of Dongnaia making them wary about his intentions. He mounted off his white horse and sighed. It had been a long time that he didn't live among the elves, and so, he didn't know how to really act around them. There were other elves outside the dragonhold to keep him out but the one who stepped in to check his mind was Angela who only came to Mount Arngor to visit Eragon but his appearance made her curious.. The werecat, Solembum stood in his human form behind her.
"If you came here for good intentions, you will let me inspect your mind," she told him. "Even if you disagree, I will."
"No matter what I say, I know that you will proceed to me in caution," the young elf-human said to them. "You may proceed to check and I am sure you will find no reason to fear me."
Blödgharm raised his eyebrows. "You look like us but it seems, you don't know much about how to act as an elf."
"I had been raised as a human in the Empire of Dongnaia where my father still lives," the young man answered. "My name is Lee Jun Ah."
"Can I now proceed to look through your memories?" Angela asked him. "We cannot allow enemies to enter the dragonhold."
Eohorim also held on his sword in defense. "Let the witch examine them and if she says that you're not a threat, we will let you meet Eragon-elda."
Lee Jun-ah sighed. "You may proceed to examine my mind, then."
Angela was about to close her eyes and use her strength to examine his memories when Eragon arrived to meet their new guest. He was adorned in his best gold-colored tunic, and black leggings.
"Let me do it." Eragon gazed at the young man standing beside his white horse and sighed. "I will examine him."
Angela, Blodgharm, and Eohorim were surprised by what he told them. They knew they cannot stop him and he knows what he's doing. Eragon began to close his eyes as the man before they did the same thing. Upon entering his mind, he saw a lot of his warm childhood, he saw his elf mother taking care of him in Du Weldenvarden and then, his human father taking him to Dongnaia to be trained as a warrior rather than to be an elf serving Queen Islanzadi. It all happened thirty years ago.
The images soon changed and he saw how he fought for the Empire of Dongnaia but the knowledge that Emperor Song Joo Won caused the death of his elf mother made him retaliate and murder him. He was also surprised the emperor had held a bronze egg under his four-poster bed, and he had discovered to learn that the emperor, even if his most trusted general betrayed him, had accepted death and entrusted the bronze dragon egg to be delivered to him. He went through a lot of hardship, ate nothing for days, stayed in a few villages in Alagaesia to ask where he could be and was just on his horned horse. It wasn't exactly a horse but a unicorn.
Moments passed, Eragon returned to himself. He was still confused and even he had seen most of what he should examine, Eragon knew there were things he can't entirely break on his mind. It was all hidden inside and he knew he didn't need to dig more.
"I am Eragon Shadeslayer, Guardian of the Dragons, and Master of Alagaesia's Dragon Riders," he said to him. "I am sure that you are weary from your ventures to find this dragonhold to hand me the bronze egg."
Jun Ah gasped in surprise. "Eragon? Your name is Eragon?"
"Aye, my name is Eragon. I am sure that as an elf, you may have heard that my namesake's from the first dragon rider."
"I am in such honor to find the first dragon rider of The Second Dragon Age!" Jun Ah struck his sword on the soil and knelt on one knee. "I had to do what I have to in the Kingdom of Dongnaia."
"You proved yourself loyal to the elves," Eragon said to him after he had dismissed the three spectators behind him. They all soon left to give them privacy. "Give me the dragon egg and I will make sure it is protected."
Jun Ah handed it to him after he took it from his brown bag. "The emperor's dragon was born in the Empire of Dongnaia, sire. I believe his dragon is native in our country and so is this dragon egg."
"Thank you for handing the dragon egg and entrusting this to me," he replied to him. "I will make sure that like the other eggs in the dragon hold, it will be well protected."
