Chapter Four: Family Matters

A/n: Thank you to all of the people who chose to read my fanfiction! I am grateful for those who chose to read it!!!❤️

Eragon sighed. It had already been a week since he was handed a bronze egg from an elf-human named Lee Jun Ah. He had found him a good companion and friend, most of all, he was able to feel comfortable around him since they're both elf-humans. He was once human and was given elf-like abilities and appearance while Jun-Ah was naturally born as an elf-human. Their relationship grew after several weeks since Lee Jun Ah was able to show that he could be trusted. Eragon had seen his crime in his mind but he was grateful to him because he didn't judge him after he examined it when he arrived in the dragon stronghold. Soon, many of the people in the stronghold respected their closeness.

The other elves also were able to respect Jun Ah when they saw that he's loyal to Eragon while the other younger dragon riders, and members of the Dragon Order were cautious and alert around him. He may have been able to become friends with the supreme master of the Order but he was always on the look out of his actions.

"Thank you for allowing me to work for you," Jun Ah told him. "I'm honored to serve such a man like you."

"What you still did to Emperor Song Joo Won is still wrong," Eragon replied to him. "I don't judge you anymore as you know yourself that you're paying for the crime that you did commit."

Jun Ah lowered his head as what he said was true. It hurt him so much to leave the empire and he knew that he may never see his human father ever again. "Permanent exile seemed to be the punishment to my crime. I did kill him to pay for killing my mother and also, his greed."

"I am sure that killing him would have a drastic effect on the empire you once served," Eragon replied to him. "I had already sent five men to look into the effect of your deed."

...

Even if it had only been ten years since he won against Galbatorix, he was already forgetting how and what he was when he was human. It troubled him that that the prophecy that he will never come back in Alagaesia was about the human 'Eragon' who had just become a dragonrider and not the 'Eragon' who was transformed during the Blood Oath Celebration. It gave him a bit of relief if it was that reason but he still dearly missed his childhood. He spent his time teaching young dragon riders and dragons at the Dragon Academy most of the time. He also confided himself to the Eldunari more about his world and emotional problems rather than ask Roran, his only relative who was still alive.

He's aghast and distant at the citizens of Palancar Valley which made Roran, Earl of Palancar Valley, wonder about their brotherhood. It still hurt Roran to discover that his daughter's a dragon rider but he was still grateful that his daughter's just like her uncle.

Dragonriders were known to be immortal beings as he had heard from Eragon ten years ago but it was also that immortality which his cousin possesses that made him sad and hurt altogether. Ismira only recently became a dragonrider and named her purple dragon: Garnet. He had only seen Garnet when she was still small but like Saphira, her scales were very much gem-like and they perfectly shine when the sun touches their scales.

Roran knew that she would be closer to her uncle rather than to him as she had to live in Eragon's mountain in the Eastern Reaches ever since she became a dragon rider. He felt a twinge of fear and jealousy because they're immortals and would surely bypass him but he knew that entrusting her to Eragon was the right choice since she can't live in a small valley where there were more farms and barns. His daughter was meant to be something else, and she knew that Eragon would surely take care of her.

Eragon sighed as he walked beside Ismira at the white halls of the Dragon Academy to meet with him. He had very much missed his cousin, and Ismira's association with his order seemed to have strangled their relationship. The young girl beside him was still Roran's daughter, and she will never be his. He hoped that in his cousin's visit, he could help calm him down. Roran took a deep breath after he had met with Eragon after the ten years of their separation. It still hurt him and seeing his cousin sail away from Alagaesia totally kept giving him nightmares. It was like the death march of his cousin for him and the man stole the face of his beloved cousin. He had a lot of scars, wrinkles, and his beard had turned white but time seemed not to touch his cousin since he's still the princely dragon rider with whom he had seen from the very first time he saw him behind Saphira but he was now glowing fairly like all other elves. His cousin's wearing a blue tunic, brown leggings, and brown boots. He was also able to glance at his blue elven sword hanging on his black belt. He had also heard that he was the person who created the swords of the ten senior members of the new dragon order.

"Roran!" Eragon gave him a very warm hug. "It's been a long time we haven't met!"

"You are still very much in great standing, and power, Eragon," he replied to him after he accepted his embrace. "It looks like you're more of a member of the fair folk than us mere humans."

Eragon released himself from his cousin and smiled back. His words were true but it still hurt him so much. "Nasuada sent you as I have heard. I hope that your arrival here could mend our relationship. I still consider myself human, don't worry about that."

Roran agreed with him. "She knew that our brotherhood had cracked but she also sent me here for a different mission. I will do my best to mend our relationship."

Ismira ran to his father to hug him. She had missed him so much. It had only been a few months since she became a dragon rider, and the effect on her wasn't yet that visible. "I missed you, daddy! Did mom come with you on your trip here?"

"No, my dear. I came to visit you but there's something more important why I am here," Roran said to her after he held her shoulders tight. It was still a huge shock to him that a purple egg he supposed to deliver to Ellésmera cracked for her daughter. His daughter had the gédway ignasia on her right palm like his uncle. "She's back at home. I'll take your mother and your baby brother here for another time but I came here for a different reason."

Moments later, Rowan, who was Ismira's master held her silver sheathed sword up to her chest and inclined her head slightly before them as a sign of her respect to the Supreme Master of the Dragon Order. Eragon introduced her to Roran.

At the same time, he knew that he would want to know his daughter's progress as one of the youngest dragon riders. She chose Rowan as Ismira's teacher as she was also ten years old when her dragon, Palmyra chose her. Roran looked very much pleased and satisfied to know her but after that, he began to be curious to see her daughter's quarters in the castle.

"We gave her huge quarters in the western section, Roran," Eragon replied to him. "Rowan also teaches three, young human dragon riders. Ismira usually spends time training magic with them."

"That's good to know!" Roran exclaimed. "Am I allowed to send her a few servants who can take care of her here?"

"Sire, I am closely taking care of my pupils," Rowan replied. "Why send more servants?"

"She's a dragon rider, and I am— and— While I am still alive and young—" Roran was lost for words. "Eragon, I am just a mortal being!"

"I would not allow myself to forget you!" cried Ismira. "Uncle Eragon always made it clear to me that you're my father!"

"Roran...!" Eragon gripped the pommel of his sword tightly. "You must not worry. I won't supersede your position as her father."

"I am glad," Roran told him. "Thank you, Eragon."

A few more moments later, Eragon saw him smile. He was grateful to see that smile come upon his face again, and that had assured him that he's still his beloved cousin.

"Now that our family matter is settled...," Roran closed his eyes and walked closer to him. "It seemed we can now speak about political matters."
