Hey Dad.

((The media is Brindlefrost.))

"Jaypaw!" Mistypool swept in front of him in a flurry of silver fur. "Not one more step in this direction, you can't sleep in the apprentice den. Into the medicine den!" She herded him that way, and he just followed, he didn't care where he slept, he just needed to. For the first time in a while when he got to his bed, he didn't focus on the scent of Milky or Gorgepaw, he thought of Jayfeather. The scent he remembered from Larksong's memory. Slowly, he started drifting off to sleep.

Jaypaw opened his eyes, and scanned his surroundings, everything around him was dead. The leafless trees loomed overhead, there was a terrible smell. "Wow Dad, you sure know how to spiff up a dream." Jaypaw muttered.

"And you certainly know how to ruin it." A voice came from behind him. Teeth grabbed his scruff, and he was dragged away.

"Hey let go!" He protested, kicking and thrashing.

"Knock it off." The tom dropped him.

Jaypaw breathed in the scent, "Jayfeather?" He turned and looked at him, it was like looking at his own reflection, he shuddered. The tabby grey fur, the ghostly blue eyes. Jayfeather was studying him just as closely. "Oh yeah, you've never actually seen me." Jaypaw commented.

A low growl came from the part of the forest they had come from. "Yeah, but there isn't anything left to see here." Jayfeather pelted off in the other direction, hoping Jaypaw had the good sense to do the same. Jaypaw did, and he followed him until they made it to a border of healthy green plants. They crossed it, and all the sudden the smell was gone.

"Starclan." Jaypaw guessed, he hadn't really believed in it, not that he had any reason, he was just into the facts.

"What are you doing here? Is Larksong okay?" Jayfeather questioned. Jaypaw didn't know why, but he didn't feel like answering him, the thought of Larksong made him angry, and Jayfeather had given him up. Suddenly he felt something odd, like something was probing his mind.

He growled, "Larksong is fine." Anger filled him, of course he didn't care about Jaypaw or Hollypaw, why would he, the yellow bundle is the special. Then he got an idea, 'If he's going to invade my thoughts, I'll invade his.' He began to search, for nothing in particular just anything that would make Jayfeather angry. He stumbled across a memory.

It was in the cave where Larksong had given up the yellow fur ball. He stepped back in surprise, what was Hollypaw doing here? He calmed down, this must be Hollypaw's namesake. He narrowed his eyes, he wasn't aware she had one. Blood bathed his mouth it was a thick scent in the air. He padded over to where all the cats were gathered.

"Jayfeather she's not breathing!" A she-cat shrieked frantically to Jayfeather.

"She's lost to much blood." Jayfeather mewed shakily, he touched the black she-cats pelt, "We couldn't save her." Jaypaw felt all the sorrow that Jayfeather had felt at the time. He just wanted to shrink away, he had failed to save his sister, and he didn't  have the chance to apologize for how stubborn and annoying he could be sometimes. 'No!' Jaypaw comforted himself, 'This is Jayfeather not me, Hollypaw is safe!'

He was brought back to Starclan, and fear filled him, was Hollypaw going to die?

"Satisfied?" Jayfeather snarled, "I could have stopped you."

Jaypaw guessed he was lying, "Nuh-uh, that's not what you were expecting, I caught you off guard, and experienced a memory without your permission." Jaypaw beamed, proud that he had beat his dad at his own game.

"Fine." Jayfeather grumbled, "So how'd you find me?" He sat down and started to groom himself.

"Let's make a deal," Jaypaw started first, "I don't intrude in your thoughts, and you don't intrude on mine... kinda like a truce?"

"Fine, can we be honest with each other?" Jayfeather asked.

"That's up to you." Jaypaw sat across from him.

"Alright, answer my question, did Larksong tell you?" Jayfeahter inquired.

"Sorta... She was acting weird so I just looked." Jaypaw didn't know why, but for some reason he felt guilty. Although he told himself he didn't care, deep down, he just wanted to make Jayfeather proud of him.

"How did you figure out you could do that?" Jayfeather wasn't even phased, he understood because that had been him once.

"When I became blind."

"You're blind too?" Jayfeather asked, a bit surprised.

"I wasn't always, but yeah." Jaypaw shrugged, he was upset he was blind, but it didn't bother him to talk about it. Jayfeather also shrugged, he felt like being blind wasn't that big of a deal. "So I'm going to ask you a question now." He paused, giving Jayfeather time to protest, when there was none, Jaypaw continued, "Tell me about my brother."
