Chapter 28: The strange guest
Bethany's P.O.V
It was around ten in the evening when the party really got going. Everyone was slowly getting drunk and laughing more. Some people even tried to swing dance but just ended up going back to the dancing of this time period. Luckily for me I hadn't become panicked so was freely roaming around.
When I stopped off at the island in the kitchen I noticed Deanna sitting on one of the bar stools sipping what looked like coke, since she didn't drink either. Making my way over I grabbed a glass of water and sat down beside her, both of us quiet and watching everything around us.
"Pretty successful don't you think?" She asked leaning towards me so I could hear her.
"I'm impressed at the turn out honestly." I admitted. "But then again we are friends with Tony Stark."
"That is true." Deanna agreed. "Have you spoke to any of the guys since early because I haven't."
"No it haven't really seen them." I replied looking around. As I did a tall male caught my eye. Not in an attraction sort of way but a suspicious way. He was leaning in one of the corners, a cane in his right hand and head bowed. He was in a dark green suit and long coat, by the looks of it he was quite tall.
When I took a closer look I noticed he had long black hair and bright blue eyes. He locked eyes with me and smiled, for a moment I thought green flashed in his eyes but as soon as I blinked it was gone. Softly I nudged my blonde friend I nodded over to the man as he turned away.
"Do you see him?" I asked, my eyes never moving from his figure. Deanna hummed. "He reminds me of someone. Did he walk in with anyone?"
"No he walked in on his own." Deanna replied. "He was the only one who hasn't greeted Tony since coming."
"Is it me or does he look like-" The thought clicked. "Loki!" Deanna's hands slammed over my mouth as she smiled sweetly at everyone I had caught the attention of.
"Okay one be quite." Deanna stated as an removed her hand and leant forward slightly so she could whisper. "And two you are insane. We don't know where Loki or Adrienne or their son is and I doubt they'd willingly turn up to something like this, let alone Stark would invite them.
"Not only that but that guy came on his own and has blue eyes. They want to bring us down but they aren't stupid enough to get on the inside with all these people here. Not only are he Avengers here but so's Falcon."
"Wait Falcon's here?" I questioned.
"That's not the point!" Deanna snapped. "Loki isn't that stupid he wouldn't-"
"Ladies." A deep male voice interrupted Deanna, causing us both to snap out heads up. The man in question stood over us, a warm smile across his lips.
"Loki doesn't have a warm smile." Deanna whispered to me before smiling up at the male and slipping off her chair. "If you'll excuse me."
"Oh don't worry about it." The man smiled and moved to let my friend passed. "I'm sure your very busy with making sure this runs smoothly, I'm sure your friend would like some company while you're gone tho." I forced a smile towards him before shooting daggers towards him.
Deanna waved and ran off quickly, someone calling her name in the crowd in the living room. The male set himself next to me and we sat in silence, both of us watching everyone else around us. It was a good few minuets later before he began to speak, however it wasn't a friendly chat.
Slowly he leant in towards my ear, his closeness sending uncomfortable shivers down my spine. "This is a nice little thing you've got going on, it's a shame it will be your last celebration. I'm here to warn you that we're still here and we won't hesitate to kill you the next time we meet."
With that he seemed to just disappear, confirming my thoughts from early. Standing up I prepared to find Steve to tell him, however Deanna practically collapsed in front of me before I could. Her hair was a mess from what looked like dancing, my only guess since a traditional swing song had just finished.
As I waited for her to catch her breath I noticed a hat on her head, a familiar brown military hat. "Why do you have Bucky's hat?" I questioned.
"Well-"
"You do know I want my hat back right?" Bucky appeared behind us, himself also looking a litter flustered from dancing. Deanna's eyes widen as she took a step back, her hands on the hat while my eyes narrowed suspiciously. It took a few seconds for it to click but by then Deanna had ran off and Bucky had gone after her.
"Did they just swing dance together?" I asked aloud.
"Yeah Buck wanted to dance." Steve's voice replied before I felt his presence besides me, looking in the direction the two had ran off in.
"Why with Deanna?" I questioned. Steve looked down at me, raised an eyebrow then shrugged.
"Who knows, he's quite the ladies man as he would say." Steve replied. "And not a bad dance teacher."
