Chapter twelve: the breakout
Chapter twelve:
Antonia Stark

S.H.I.E.L.D helicarrier
Sam still hasn't woken up. Still!
What was taking so long?! Stupid scientist.
"Tara and Leo are back." Nathan said. I looked up.
"And so are you guys. Wazzup?" Nathan shrugged.
"Not much. Coulson was running his own spy place behind Maria's back and.....we didn't get Jemma and Leo." I sighed, looking back at Sam. He looked peaceful, just lying there. I wonder if he was bored....
"Why couldn't they just agree to come?!" Nathan shrugged.
"I dunno. Agent Skye was there too. She was trying to get information out of the Webhead."
"And let me guess. He was being his normal, lovable, annoying self?" Nathan chuckled.
"At least he wasn't being a mence!" We chuckled then sat in silence. Nathan was probably thinking about Maria and I was thinking about a bunch of things, but mainly Sam. If only it was someone else, like Leo or Stacey. Then Sam could whip up some cure and fix everything.
But it wasn't Leo or Stacey. It was Sam, and we don't have his big brain to fix anything.
Ugh, why did I have to be a tech wiz?! Why couldn't I be a bio-chemist like Fitz or Sam?!
Or was Simmons the bio-chemist......?
"Stark, we need you in the lab." I sighed and stood up, stealing one last glance at Sam before heading to the lab.
------------------
"So no Fitz, no Simmons, Banner is late and Richards is too busy finding his daughter. Great. Just great." I said, plopping down in a chair. Maria nodded.
"Pretty much. But Banner has said that he'd be arriving shortly, and he'll have some bases of a cure ready in an hour." I sighed and sat down.
"So anyone else go missing yet?" Stacey shook her head.
"No one that we know of. Xavier's school is pretty much on lockdown and under Storm's protection and the Baxter Building is being protected by Reed's giant brain.....well, the part that isn't looking for his daughter."
"And Avengers Tower?" Nathan asked. Maria nodded.
"Protected, as always." I resisted the urge to sigh. The Avengers were okay....not that they needed protection.
"What about heroes that don't attend there? You know, like Black Panther. Silver Surfer. Heroes like them."
"Sliver Surfer rarely comes to Earth so he should be fine. And I already warned Black Panther of the danger. He's going to stay in his country to protect his people, and is going to send his daughter to live with her mother." Maria answered.
"He has a daughter?" I questioned.
"Who's her mother?" I spun around in my chair.
"Well it's about time you got back Captain Spandex." Leo rolled his eyes.
"Whatever Stark-clone. Now who's her mother?"
"Storm." Maria said simply. I frowned. I didn't know Black Panther and Storm were a thing.....
"Where's Tara?" Nathan asked.
"Outside. She said she needed some alone time." I raised an eyebrow.
"So why didn't she stay on Asgard?"
"Sometimes when your royalty, people don't always give you time alone." Stacey said.
"So...it's like being famous.........on Earth."
"Exactly."
"So? What's our next move?" Leo asked. We fell silent. Maria sighed. Coulson somewhat backstabbing her was getting to her, even if she wasn't going to show it. I mean, Coulson paratactically raised her.
"I don't know. But I do know one thing. We can't trust anyone." Maria said. We looked around the room. We all knew Maria meant anyone out of this room, excluding Tara. And at least Maria was trusting more people than Nick did. He rarely trusted anyone.
"What about Agent Hill?" Agent Maria Hill spent her time keeping an eye on my dad. And where I didn't blame her, it was still weird passing a former Agent in the hallways.
Maria sighed.
"I wouldn't trust her with too much, but we need all the allies we can get."
"Who are we not trusting?" Tara asked, walking in, Mjölnir on her belt. The funny thing about her hammer was that, unlike Thor's, it wasn't exactly made from a dying star. At least, according to her it isn't.
"Apparently everyone." I said. Stacey rolled her eyes.
"Who isn't in this-." A loud explosion sounded off and the alarm started off.
"JARVIS!!"
"Ma'am, there seems to be a security breach in the left quadrant. Near where the prisoners are being held."
"Great."

Agent Skye
4:00ish
The Playground
The base wasn't completely destroyed, but it would need some fixing. Unfortunately, Coulson no longer had people who could help him. Or, heroes who could help anyway.
"Any idea why Director Fury wanted us?" Jemma asked. We were currently all gathered in Coulson's office. May was alright, through she did have a bruised eye. Everyone else was okay, and thankfully no one was killed.
"Don't call her that." Coulson said simply. Maria had cornered him in his office and they had a disagreement. We can all see why Maria is the level nine agent.
"Sir, p-please. Why?" Fitz asked. We (Bobbi, Mack, Trip, May, Hunter, Fitz, Simmons and I) looked at Coulson.
"Honestly? I don't know. It's hard to tell with Maria. She could want your help with a project. Or she could want you because you two are my best scientist."
"Which do you think it is?" I asked.
"I dunno."
"Okay, how long until the base gets up and running again?" I asked again.
"I dunno."
"You think Maria's gonna attack us again?" Mack asked.
"Not sure. My guess is she wouldn't waste her time on us."
"Oh, so she doesn't think we're good enough for her attention?" Hunter asked sarcastically.
"No. She just knows we aren't a threat. Not to mention she has her hands full right now." I frowned.
"Sir, why don't you just get Director Fury...I mean, the other Director Fury to explain everything? Or like, get her mother to ground her or something." May, Bobbi, Simmons, and Coulson all fell silent.
"Sir?" Fitz asked. Coulson sighed.
"Director Fury would take Maria's side. She's very persuasive that way. And her mom...."
"Is dead. Killed by Hydra." Sounds like a Disney movie. Minus the Princesses of course.
"We need to rebuild. Stay alert for hydra. Make sure they don't go near Maria."
"Your still protecting her? After what just happened?!" Fitz exclaimed. We all looked at him and Coulson nodded.
"Of course I am. I was given the orders to protect her, no matter what." Those sound like wonderful orders.
"Skye, make sure Ward is still downstairs. He could've escaped in the chaos.
"But I checked on him before-."
"Fitz, Simmons, make sure Spiderman didn't take anything from the lab. Mack, Hunter, your on weapons. Make sure nothing went missing. Bobbi, May I want you helping with the clean up. " I sighed. Naturally, I got stuck with Ward.
However, he did talk to me more.
I grabbed the iPad and walked downstairs, my mind swirling with questions. Maria wanted Fit-Simmons for a reason, and whether or not it was a good reason was a mystery.
"That was quite a party up there." I sat down in the chair, Ward smiling slightly across from me.
"What happened?"
"None of your business." I snapped. He held up his hands.
"Sorry I asked." I thought for a moment. How much did Hydra know about Maria? Coulson wouldn't get mad if I a few questions right?
"Maria Fury." Ward looked up, slightly shocked from what I could tell.
"What about her?"
"What do you know about her?" I asked. He sighed.
"Not much I'm afraid. I'm guessing she's the one who did the attack? I promise she's not Hydra." I sighed.
"Look, it doesn't matter who did they attack, I just need to know what do you know about her?!" Ward sighed.
"Like I said, not much. Fury did a good job about keeping his little pride and joy hidden."
"When did you first hear about her?" He thought a couple minutes.
"About three months before we found you and started this team. The only people who knew about Maria were at least level eight agents. Anything lower, you barley knew who she was." So Fury kept his daughter a secret. Sounds like something he would do.
"Anything else?" I asked. He shook his head.
"No. All I know is she takes after her father."
"Skye." I jumped at Mack's voice.
"Coulson wants to see you upstairs." I sighed, and stood up. What now?
"Skye. I will keep my promise." I shook my head and walked up the stairs. It didn't matter if Ward kept his promise. I honestly didn't care.
"Where is he?"
"In his office." Mack answered. I walked up to Coulson's office and knocked the door.
"You called?" Coulson turned and glared at me.
"What were you thinking?!" Assuming he was talking about asking Ward about Maria, I answered.
"I was thinking he could have valuable information!"
"We don't need valuable information, because she isn't our enemy." Coulson snapped.
"Well, someone should tell her that!!" I snapped back.
"We aren't making an enemy of Maria. She had her play and simply said what needed to be said."
"She pinned you against the wall with a knife, how is that saying what needed to be said?!" I exclaimed.
"What went down between us, if between us." I growled and stormed out of Coulson's office.
"Well, if I-I do say so myself....th-that went well." I glanced at Fitz.
"Apparently, I'm not supposed to mention Maria to Ward. Or point out that fact that she should be punished, and not getting away with this."
"Maybe she is. Getting punished I mean." I looked at Fitz.
"Beg your pardon?"
"W-Well, maybe because Coulson......you know, Maria is being punished. Just not in the way-."
"That I would think." Fitz nodded.
"Thank you. Exactly." I sighed. Maybe Fitz was right....in a way. But still.
Why was Coulson so stubborn about this?

Maria Fury
4:10/4:20 (sometime around there)
New S.H.I.E.L.D Helicarrier
Taskmaster.
He was the one who broke in.
Why, I'm not entirely sure, but he did.
"Rogers, Foster, Barton, Romanova, get down there now." I ordered. And yes, I called Tarene by her Midgard last name.
Thordottir is just too much of a mouthful to yell.
"And me?" Toni asked. I stood up, brushing the dust off.
"Come with me." I lead her down the hallway, in the opposite direction of the break in.
"Uh.....shouldn't we be going that way." I shook my head.
"No. Luckily, Taskmaster didn't blow out one of the engines, but I need you out there to stop them when he and the others try to escape."
"Others?" I nodded, like it was the most obvious thing in the world.
"Yes, others. You think Taskmaster would break in here without taking some petty criminals with him?" Toni ran off, and I kept walking. Right into the lab.
My scientist including a trusted few (Mr. and Mrs. Cage, sometimes Jane Foster, and a few others) and then the rest were geniuses that were also next generation super heroes.
"Make sure Sam doesn't go anywhere. Lord knows what Taskmaster could be planning by being here, but hopefully it doesn't involve him." I turned on the com piece in my ear.
"Ayala, Rand, make sure none of the weapons go missing, or have gone missing. Maximoff, can you cast a hex preventing any villains from leaving? I already have Stark outside the Helicarrier for when Taskmaster escapes." I got a muffed reply back, and I really hoped it was a muffed yes, instead of a muffed no.
I headed down the hall once again.
"Maria, none of the weapons have gone missing." I nodded.
"Great. Can you stand by and make sure they don't? Can't take the chance that Taskmaster-."
"Can't take the chance that I what?" I whirled around, pulling out a gun.
The tricky thing about Taskmaster was that he could adapt to everyone's move. Guess it's a good thing for training one day, I had everyone face off against LMD of themselves.
"Can't take the chance that you'll break into my helicarrier and steal all my lovely toys." I said. He chuckled.
"Your just like your father. Thinking everything was safe abroad this flying hunk of junk." I growled.
"I don't think that. I know it is." I glanced behind him and smirked slightly.
"Oh, and if I was you, I would move. Right about....now." Taskmaster turned around, just to have Mjölnir (Tarene's Mjölnir) thrown in his face.
"Thanks."
"No problem." Taskmaster jumped up, growling.
"I knew I should've asked for more before breaking into this place." I frowned. When Doc Oc was kidnapped, he mentioned something about and employer. But he never said who it was. And now Taskmaster was saying he was employed by someone? Odd.....
"Who sent you?" I demanded, pointing the pistol at his head.
"Like I'd tell you." He snapped, jumping up, and running (yes, running) out of the room.
"Taskmaster is lose throughout the Helicarrier. Find him." I snapped through the COMs, running after him with Tarene.
"Well, well well." Seriously?! Doc Oc too?!
"If it isn't Fury's pride and joy..." I glared at him.
"Tara, find Taskmaster. I'll deal with him." She hesitated, but nodded anyways, before running off.
"Doc Oc. Care to explain who exactly your employer is?" My eyes shifted from arm to arm.
"He said he'd pay my handsomely if I took that Powerman. Never did I think I would also get the pleasure of taking out Fury's daughter." And this is what you get for being the daughter of a secret organization's Director. Not a fancy plane, or a private island.
Nope. Everyone placing at target on your head and wanting to kill you.
"I'm sorry to say you'll be very disappointed." I said. Two of the arms reached out, and I got ready to dodge them.
"You see Maria....I'm not here to kill you. No, I'll do far worse." The arms shot towards me, and I dodged one, jumping on the other and firing at Doc Oc. He cried out, jumping something on the floor.
It was a silver gem. Not a infinity gem or anything like that. It looked like a normal, silver stone, only...it was a gem.
Why would he be carrying something like this?
"NOO!! The gem!!" He cried.
I should've caught the fact that he was faking.
I picked the gem up. Instantly, my fingers began to burn. I screamed, trying to drop it, but the gem held fast.
My whole body began to burn, as the gem faded into my hand. I began to twitch, and my vision started getting blurry.
I stumbled, losing feeling in pretty much everywhere. I hit the ground, the world slowly going black.
Above me, Doc Oc chuckled.
"Well, well, well. Now I get to see Fury's pride and joy in her proper place." Somewhere, I heard screaming.
"SAM SMASH!!"
And my world went dark.

So, this update didn't go exactly the way I planned, but I hoped you still like it.
Anyway, the next couple of chapters, I'm gonna try and expand on how the new Avengers feel about their parents. Probably starting with Sam and going down the line.
I'm also gonna try and expand on their characters, so if they don't seem the way they did before in the beginning, I'm sorry, I'm just trying to give them more personality.
Anyway, yes!! If your wondering, the gem dissolved into Maria's hand, and caused a bunch of pain. In case that wasn't clear.
Anyway, vote, please comment, and name your favorite villain (from the Marvel universe)
Peace!!
