Chapter seventeen: Long time no see

Chapter seventeen:
Clint Barton (Hawkeye)
7:30 am
Avengers Mansion

Stupid law.....stupid act.....stupid bill thing......

I walked downstairs and into the kicthen. The mansion (A.K.A our new home until Senate lossens up) was quiet, so I don't think anyone was awake.

"I didn't think you were an early riser Clint." I jumped. Steve was making eggs (and bacon) while Leo was sitting at the table.

"What are you doing up?!" I asked.

"I could ask you the same thing." Leo said, munching on some toast. I frowned, sitting down.

"Couldn't sleep. You?"

"One of the perks of being in the army. Fried or scrambled?" Steve asked, setting food in front of Leo.

"Fried, and what about you?" I asked Leo. He shrugged.

"One of the perks of being raised by this guy." He said, pointing at Steve. The two chuckled and I raised an eyebrow.

They were weird......

My phone buzzed and I frowned. Who would be calling me at seven-thirty in the morning?! I mean, Widow was here, and if Fury (Maria) wanted something, she'd call us all.

But not at seven-thirty in the morning.

I looked down at the phone and paled. She hadn't called me in a long time.

"I'll be right back." I said, running out of the room. I hid in a closet downstairs.

What? I needed privacy.

"What do you want?" I asked quickly.

"Clinton. I saw the newscast." I frowned.

"Whoa. Hold up. You walked out on us! What were you doing watching the--."

"Clint!!!" We stood in silence.

"She's allowed to choose now. She's old enough. I'll be there--."

"Who said you were allowed to come?!"

"SHE'S MY DAUGHTER TOO!!"

"Funny you say that, because I remember YOU SAYING THAT SHE WAS--." The door opened and Natasha raised an eyebrow.

"Something bothering you Clint?" Natasha asked.

"Who's that?"

"No one." I answered. I looked at Nat and singled her to leave. She sighed closed the door.

"Clint!!" I rolled my eyes.

"Relax, I'm here. And you're not allowed to show up at the mansion!"

"I can't believe you Clinton!! First, you put your only daughter at risk, then you say I can't see her?!!"

"First off, you could've seen her everyday if you didn't walk out that day!! Second, Stacey is completly capable of taking care--!!"

"You partnered her up with an insane Russian spy's son!!"

"Natasha is not insane!!! And Nathan and Stacey make a great team--!!!!"

"ONLY BECAUSE YOU FORCED THEM TOGETHER---!!!!"

"DON'T LECTURE ME ABOUT THINGS YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND!!" More angry silence. I can't believe this hellbeast.

"I'll be there at nine. She better be there Clint." She hung up. I growled, gripping the phone. I can't believe her!! Hellbeast!! Devil's spawn!!

I punched the wall, then instantly regretted it. I shoved my phone back into my pocket and walked out, holding my hand.

"Something you wanna share Clint?" Tony asked. All the Avengers (even Thor....thought he was on Asgard...) looked at me.

"What? Did I miss a meeting?" I asked, trying to avoid what I knew they were asking about.

"Clint. The yelling. Phone call. What was it about?" Steve asked. I glared at him.

"Don't you have a child to attend to?" I snapped. Natasha raised an eyebrow.

"Thanks to your yelling, all the kids are awake. Leo and Stacey are making them breakfast." Great...

"Eye of Hawks, whatever is bothering you, we can--."

"Spill Katniss." I sighed, too tired and too upset to get mad at Tony for calling me Katniss.

"She's coming." Wilson walked in at the moment, munching on a bagel.

"Who's coming?" He asked. I glanced towards the kicthen, then whispered.

"Stacey's mom." Falcon's eyes widened.

"Stacey's--!!!" I quickly covered his mouth.

"Not so loud!!" I hissed. Cap frowned.

"Why don't you want Stacey to know?"

"You remember what Susan was like right?" Natasha asked. Tony snorted.

"I remember Clint wanting to protect her, and lying to her, saying he was a guy working at company. Then demanding to know why I was at her wedding." Sam frowned.

"Wait. She didn't know he was an Avenger?"

"No. Clint met Susan on an undercover mission. The two kept in touch and somehow Clint being Hawkeye didn't come up. When her apartment building was acidentally destoyed, killing her brother in the process, she expessed a hatred for the Avengers. Bird-Brain over here proposed to her without mentioning that he was an Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. They got married and had Stacey." Sam frowned.

"Then what happened?" I sighed.

"Everything went south." I said.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~flashback starts~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I opened the door quietly. Silence. Good. She was asleep. They both were asleep.
Relaxing, I shut the door and kicked off my boots, collapsing on the couch, not even bothering to hide my bow or quiver. The lights flickered on and I jumped up.
"Clinton, is there anything you want to share with me?" I paled, turning around, gripping my bow tightly.
"Hey....Susan.....it's 10 o'clock, what are you doing up....and not in our room....like i expected you to be." Susan growled.
"I can't believe you!! I should've know there was no other reason that Tony Stark was at our wedding other than the fact that you were his teammate!!" I chuckled nervously.
"Susan, look, maybe we should quiet down--."
"Shut it Clint!!" She snapped. I sighed.
"Look, I know you hate the Avengers, but I want to protect people as an Avenger--." Susan reached over and smacked me.
"Like you wanted to protect my brother?!" I winched.
"What happened was an accident. None of us knew someone was in that building." Tears began to fill up in Susan's eyes.
"He was my brother Clint. You let him die! You killed him!!!" I shook my head quickly.
"No.....I didn't!!" Susan growled, glaring at me.
"Get out." She ordered. I frowned.
"What?"
"Get. Out." She said.
~~~~~~~~~flashback interuppted~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

"Whoa. Hold up. How did you end up with Stacey if--."

"I heard my name?" I paled.

"Stacey!!" Stacey raised an eyebrow.

"That is my name." She said.

"Technically it's Stacey Nicole, but I don't think that's the point." Nathan said. Great. Nathan overheard too.

"So. What are we talking about?" Stacey asked, looking at me. All the Avengers looked at me. It was my call.

"Nothing Stac. Why don't we find a training room in this thing and see who can hit the most targets. Or we can shoot arrows at Thor's head."

"I do not like that idea." Thor muttered. Stacey grinned.

"Lets go........now where exactly is the training room?" We both looked at Tony.

"It's downstairs. Use your Avenger id cards to get down there." I rolled my eyes and walked towards the elevator with Stacey.

"That seems....overly complicated. Can't we just have a passwords or something?" I asked. Stacey snorted.

"If we do that, people like Nathan would end up forgetting it and having to ask someone." I thought for a second then nodded.

"True."

Avengers mansion (training room)

So far, Stacey had hit 2,567 targets, and I have hit 2,569.

"There's no way, you can--." Stacey fired, hitting not two, but three targets.

"Crap."

"Mister Barton, there's someone at the gate to see you." My eyes widened.

"Dad? You expecting someone?" I glanced at Stacey and tried to play it cool.

"Tell them I'm busy JARVIS. Spending some quality time with my daughter." Stacey grinned.

"I'm afraid she's beinging very persistent. I don't think she's happy with you sir." I sighed.

"She? Dad, you didn't tell me you had a girlfriend." Stacey joked. I sighed, heading towards the elevator.

"She's not my girlfriend Stac." Pause.

I stepped into the elevator.

Pause.

Pressed the button.

"Then who is it?"

Door shut.

"Susan."

~~~~~~~~~
Stacey had my blue eyes, my skill with a bow, and my spy skills.
Thats about it.
Stacey definatly took after Susan, with her blonde hair, small hands, and the ability to make a guy feel bad about something he didn't do.
"Well, well, well. You haven't changed a bit." Susan said, crossing her arms, her hazel eyes staring into me.
"Neither have you. Now what do you want?"
"You know what I want Clint." She said my name like it was some sort of swear.
"I saw the newscast. I want custody of Stacey." I glared at her.
"No."
"Wow, you two are in the same room together and you haven't blow anything up yet." Natasha said sarcastically. Susan turned her glare to Natasha.
"And look, the little spider is in a room with someone and she hasn't tried to kill them yet." Part of me wanted to point out that Natasha did try to kill me once (or twice), but i kept silent.
"Nice to see you too Susan." Natasha said.
"Susan? Oh, you must be Stacey's mother. Clint's wife." I facepalmed, after trying to wave Falcon off. Susan growled.
"I am not married to this.....this....bird-brain over here!! And yes, Stacey is my daughter."
"Oh really? Cause that's not what you told me." I muttered under my breath.
~~~~~~~~~~~flashback continues~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

"Get out of my house. Now." I stood up.

"Uh....actually, seen as how my job pays the bills, I think this is my house." I snapped.

"Your job?! Your job?! You don't have a job! You just run around in tight pants and pretend like your Robin Hood of the twenty-first century!!"

"I least I do something meaning full with my life!!"

"I should've known I couldn't trust you!! You disappear for months at a time, leaving with that Natasha girl, and leaving me here with our three month old daughter--!!"

"I have never been gone for more than a month okay!! And you act like Natasha and I are having a fling behind your back!! Susan, I--."

"Clinton Barton you better not say those words!! If you truly loved me you would've told me from the beginning!"

"You hate the Avengers!! I was afraid you'd hate me too......" I trailed off, looking away. Susan sighed, looking away as well.

"Well......I do. You lied to me, and the Avengers are the reason why my brother is dead." She looked at me, her hazel eyes staring into my blue ones.

"And if you won't leave, I will."

~~~~~~~~flashback interuppted~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"You wanted to turn our daughter into a weapon--."
"NO I DIDN'T!!"
"YES, YOU DID!!"
"I WANTED HER TO BE ABLE TO PROTECT HERSELF--!!!"
"SO YOU TAUGHT HER HOW TO USE A KNIFE?!" The elevator doors opened.
"Hey Dad, does it count if I made twenty more....." Stacey's bow hit the ground and her eyes widened.
"Mom?"
Dad glanced at me, then back at the women. I had seen pictures of her a couple times.
She was my Mother.
She squealed and ran over, giving me a hug.
"Oh Stacey, you've grown so much!! My little angel!!" Falcon looked between us, looking a little confused.
"Um...I'm missing something here." Tara, Leo, Nathan, and Toni all walked out from....wherever they were.
"Who's the lady?" Toni asked. Leo nudged her.
"Be polite." He hissed. I forced a smile, before noticing something. Mom's (so weird calling her mom) eyes were happy when she saw me. Everyone else in the room, she looked like she wanted to pull out a knife and stab them all.
Kinda like Natasha only more.....motherly.
"Nice to meet you ma'am. I'm--." Mom cut Leo off.
"I know who you are. Your Steve's child." Leo frowned.
"Uh....I have--." Mom glanced at Tara, before looking at Dad in obvious disbelif.
"She lives with an Asgardain?! What if the Asgardain breaks something and it lands on Stacey's head?!! Or what if the Asgardain gets mad and breaks her in half?!"
Word of advice. Never refer to Tara, as "the Asgardain". Because then she will get mad at you.
"The Asgardain has a name. It's Tara for those simple minded Midgardains like yourself." Mom glared at Tara and Tara glared right back.
I'm not sure who I should be rooting for here.
"And i promise you, I would never hurt Stacey on purpose. She is my friend, not my enemey. You however are quickly leaning towards--."
"How about we all get along and not threaten to kill each other?" Leo asked, jumping quickly.
"Susan, leave Tarene alone. Your problem is with us, not our kids." Mom huffed in annoyance and grabbed my arm tightly.
"Fine. But I'm not letting my only daughter be a part of this cemical mess!!" She hissed, dragging me towards the door.
"What the hell?!?!! Let me go!!" I pulled out of her grip. Mom looked at me, sadness in her eyes.
"Stacey--." I glared at her.
"Dad told me you left us. I was three months old, and you left. Now you should up, when I'm fifteen, almost sixteen? What the hell?!" Mom sighed.
"Stacey. I didn't leave because of you. I left because your father wanted you to be like him. And I didn't want my daughter to be like some lying, theiving bastard."
"Hey!! I'm right here!!" Dad exclaimed.
"Then why didn't you take me with you?" I asked, a hint of sadness in my voice.
"I tried Stacey. I tried everything. But S.H.I.E.L.D found me every time. Finally, i had enough. If Clint wanted you so badly, he could have you. From that day on.....you were his child. Not mine."
"So basically you gave her up, giving full rights to Clint and cutting them both out of your life forever?" Toni summed up.
Dick.
"Yes, but I wanted to wait until Stacey was older, till she could choose what parent she wanted."
Choose.......
"Why now?" Nathan asked. I could tell he wasn't liking this.
"Because until now, I had no idea when Clint has having her live. There was a huge annoucement about this place on the news. Didn't you guys see it?"
"I did!" Leo said. I rolled my eyes.
Of course he did.
"Shouldn't you have stayed in life long enough for her to know who to choose?" Falcon asked.
"Cause basically she knows nothing about you, and yet here you are, saying Stacey should come with you." He continued. Tara nodded in agreement.
"He's right you know." Mom glared at them both then looked at me.
"Stacey, please." I sighed.
"I don't know what to do." I muttered.
"But I do." Sam said, walking down the stairs. Toni frowned.
"Where have you been?" He shrugged.
"Upstairs in my room. Avoiding people." Tipical.
"Anyway, I overheard this conversation--."
"Of course he did." Nathan muttered.
"And I think I figured it out. What if Stacey just split her time? Half time with Dad and half with Mom doing non-spy things."
I thought about it and nodded. That could work.
Plus I could figure out what exactly happened, cause I still have no idea.
Mom looked at me and sighed.
"If that's what it takes to have my daughter back." Dad looked like he wanted to say something but he didn't.
"I think I'll do it." I said. Mom grinned and hugged me tightly.
Her hair smelled nice......
Like flowers......
And someone else i knew.......
Hmm........
My game plan.
Next chapter. Tie up some loose ends and things I need to work on. (If that makes sense......)
Then. Work on what it was like when they were kids. Sorta like I did today with Clint and Susan, but with everyone else.
Also. I want to speed up Agent's of S.H.I.E.L.D to the current season/episode. Hope that's okay.....Just want to work with a current season. Not to mention I have a plan so....yeah.
(I hate Simmons in the season -_-)
Next chapter will be coming soon and sorry if this one sucked. :/
Peace!
