Chapter 7
Isaac
_______
"Who are they?" Rita asked. "I've never seen them before."
"You have never seen them because they are not from this part, look at their clothes, that's Elite uniform," I told her, looking at the girls laying unconscious before us.
Rita still looked confused, she looked at the girls then back at me. "I thought elites were like the kings and Queens over there, what the hell would they be doing over here?"
"Joe was an elite," I murmured, but I don't think she heard me.
"I'm going to go call my father," she said. "We need to know if we're bringing them in, or leaving them behind." She walked away to make the call.
"Why do you think they came here?" Fikayo asked. Fikayo was a new recruit, he had just passed the training program and just turned eighteen, he was now fit to come out into the wild. Michael was usually the one who came out with us, but he was still grieving over Joe.
"Maybe the bastard kicked them out like the others, but whatever happened, we can't trust them just yet," Isaac told him. He faced Rita who was already walking towards them.
"What did Chief say?" I asked.
"We are taking them back with us," Rita said then turned to Fikayo. "Tie them up." She ordered.
He nodded and turned round to go get the rope. Rita walked over to me. "They are lucky they weren't bitten, I'm not in the mood to kill anyone right now," she said. "Anyone, except for those monsters." She added looking at the decayed body of the Zombies.
Soon we had them in our craft, we tied them up, they were not to be trusted till we knew their mission here.
Jonathan, the president back then was rumoured to be the first to turn, some people said he was the one who created the virus and Iheanacho the bastard, used it against him. That's why he is so praised over there, he is their Hero, only if they knew the demon underneath the sheep clothing.
The Eron virus didn't just divide Nigeria, it created monsters. The cure for the virus haven't been found, all we have is the dose which can help fight the virus before it spreads, if one is too late to take it, that's the end. And about the dose, we only have just thirty in store. So, it's not enough to help everyone.
"Are you ok?" Rita asked bringing me out of my thought.
I nodded my head. "Yes, just thinking about something..."
"What's it?" She pushed.
I sighed. "Do you think we are going to get through this?" I asked her. She looked confused for awhile, then nodded her head.
"I can't say I'm a hundred percent certain, but I have hope Isaac. If the machine works, everything would go back to the way it was. Everyone we've lost be back, Joe, my mum, aunt Kathy, your parents," A pain ran across my heart as I heard that. She moved closer to me, placing a comforting hands on my shoulder. "I know it hurts right now, but let's not lose our hope, it's the only thing keeping us alive." I nodded my head.
"Are you guys hungry?" Fikayo asked after watching us for awhile, a grumble was heard coming from his stomach. "I'm starving."
Rita rolled her eyes. "You're always hungry, there's food in the cooler."
"You say it like it's a bad thing," I heard him mumble as he walked away.
We arrived half an hour later. Everyone was out, Children dancing round fires singing songs, while others flooded around Idris, who was always filled with stories. Idris was the oldest amongst us, and because he knew so much, small children would disturb him to tell them stories of the past, how what was known as the giant of Africa, once was.
The woman were cooking at one corner, while the men gathered in groups discussing. They all stopped what they were doing, looking at us as we walked by with the two elites. It's been long since we found any elite, the last one we found was Joe, two years ago.
Chris approached them before they could enter inside. "What's this Rita?" He asked looking at the two elites, who Fikayo had ordered the guards to bring in.
Rita turned round the face the men carrying the girls. "Take them to the cells, different cells, chain them to the bed post." She ordered. They nodded and went in. She turned back to Chris, who had an annoyed look on his face. "You were saying?"
"You can't just bring anyone in here Rita, what do you think you're doing?"
"I'm bringing them in with orders from my Dad," She said. "Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm sweating buckets, I need to have a cold shower." Without another word she walked past him.
He watched her walk away and turned to me. "You let her do this?"
I raised my hands. "She's my commander, I take orders from her, not you." I walked away. Chris had his own problems which I wasn't willing to deal with now.
"Why is he always like that?" Fikayo asked once we were out of earshot.
"He has always been grumpy." I told him. "Go make sure the guards followed Rita's instruction, I'll go meet the chief."
"Ok." He walked away.
I walked down the hallway, then stopped in front of the chief's office. I stood outside quietly, checking to see if he had any visitor, when I heard nothing, I raised my hands to knock, but before I could do that, a voice came from inside.
"Come in Isaac, I was wondering if you planned on standing out there forever." I smiled and worked in, sometimes I forget he could see what's goes on beside the door.
"Good afternoon sir," I greeted as I closed the door behind me.
"Afternoon Isaac, have a seat." He said. Chief looked tired. Whenever he came out to talk to the people, he always put on a stronger front, always holding a smile. But if you look closer, you could see it was a facade all for the people's hope. Our lives were on the brains of Jerry, Iheanacho will never let us in, if the machine works, we would be free, and this whole thing would never have happened. "So, the elites Rita talked about?"
"Yes sir, they came from the North, it means they had just come out from the dome, we followed them till they entered the dark woods, where the Zombies attacked them."
"Do they look dangerous, soldiers?"
"Not at all, they looked anything but that. I think they are newly recruited elites, they seem just the age," I told him.
"Where are they?" He asked.
"Rita ordered the guards to place them in the cells," I said. "Do you want me to do anything sir?"
He sighed and stood up. "Nothing more Isaac, go be with your friend, he needs you." I nodded, he was talking about Michael. Michael hasn't stepped out from his room ever since Joe died.
"Ok sir," I stood up.
"While I go pay this elites a visit, if they are a threat, they go back into the wild."

Chidera
Fuck, that smell again!
My eyes were the first thing that woke up, before the rest of my body parts and senses followed. I found myself laying on the cold floor, hands and feet bounded. I struggled and lifted my self up, my back bones which had become stiff from however long I had been laying in the same position made a cracking noise. I let out a low moan at the feeling and rested my back against the wall. Looking around, I didn't recognize my surroundings, well I didn't expect to. At the far corner of the room was a wooden chair and just beside me was a small bed.
Why didn't they put me on the bed?
I tried to get up but the chains held to me fast. "Hello!" I called. "Anyone? Someone? Open the door please, the air here is killing!" And that wasn't a figure of speech, the air was a killer one. It seemed my lungs were shrinking up from just breathing in it, I wanted to hold my breathe so my body won't suffer such, but it was either that or death and I am not ready to die at just eighteen. "Please let me out! Is it money you want? My father has it... a lot!" I shouted even though I knew my father couldn't help, they didn't need to know that.
Just as the last words left my mouth, I heard a distant sound, followed by the clanking of chains just outside the door, followed by bolts, then the door was pulled and a man who seemed to be in his late forties walked in.
"Good morning Chidera," He greeted calmly, his hands tucked in his jean pockets.
How did he know my name?
"Who are you and why have you kept me here?" I asked trying to sound brave.
"Who am I? Well, I am offended, I thought I was well known from your side. Why don't you take a closer look," He said as he walked further into the room, stopping just where the light that came from the small bulb above, shone directly on his face.
I leaned forward looking at him, that smirk, that scar, I have seen this face somewhere before, it was... It was...

I'm sorry for the late update, my goal this month turned from 50,000 words to 100,000 words. So, I'm working on two books at the moment. But I'll try and make this update an everyday thing now.
November 30 is on it's way, and
*sigh*
