☫ Chapter 10 ☫

☫ Chapter 10 ☫

Grandma and Grandpa were watching the news.

This meant that I was quietly parading in the kitchen looking for something to eat. My eyes scanned the fridge with pursed lips. The house was dark and my grandparents had their eyes glued on the TV seeming entranced with whatever update Utah had to offer. I watched them with stilled eyes, blinking every now and then to adjust my vision. Wearing contacts wasn't as great as I hoped.

There were a two-week trial pair and honestly, I couldn't state my opinion on them just yet. I'd have to see what it's like to wear them while fighting. My body hid by the doorpost of the kitchen as my eyes flickered to the screen. With furrowed eyebrows, I listened.

"Well, we can't say for sure," a man spoke. "But it seems like our superhero, Dark Wonder, has gotten himself into trouble. We're unaware of where he is and the enforcement is working on the case as we speak. Here's the clip we've been sent."

I gulped when the video played. Dark Wonder was seated on a chair, his hands tied and head low. He had a cloth wrapped around his face, hiding his eyes. I nibbled on my lower lip and kept watching. There were lots of men surrounding him with grim grins. I could tell that they were on a roof, but I couldn't pinpoint the exact location.

"If you want your precious hero back then release Razor!" They barked with a knife to his neck.

My eyes did something weird as I scanned the area Dark Wonder was held captive in. Like a bird, I saw two things at once. One of my eyes were focusing on the background, picking up clues and signs. The other was examining his state, if he was alright. This eyesight was great and all but I still need my glasses to see it clearly. Otherwise, I'll just see double again. Like just the other day I saw two Dark Wonder's and it was very confusing. That gave me a push to try and get contacts.

I tiptoed to my room as silently as I possibly could, slowly shutting the door once I entered. Turning the computer on, I untangled the mouse wire and began typing up the small sign I saw just a moment ago. Old Tooele Hospital. I memorized the map on how to get there and scrunched my face up when I noticed how far it was. It's approximately an hour away. Will I even be able to get there in time?

Wait, I can fly. I'll probably get there in ten minutes if I do. But that would mean that I have to fly.

Attempting not to dwell on that thought too much, I slipped on the superhero costume. It was done in an unceremonious way and maybe a bit awkwardly but it's only my third time putting this thing on. Eventually, I will master it.

By the time I got there Dark Wonder somehow got himself out of the predicament and was fighting Razor's men off. His eyes were dark and stern, very frightening. He clenched his fists and scoffed at them. They all circled him while holding blades and other weapons, threatening him with just their grips on it. I flew to the scene and they all stopped and stared at me.

     My cheeks reddened.

"And you are?" Dark Wonder asked while looking me over. I noticed the gang members in the back gazing at me with wide eyes and utter confusion. Dark Wonder crossed his arms over his chest and waited for an answer, his lips pursed and eyes narrowed with suspicion.

I suddenly felt overdress for the occasion. Was the cape necessary Jeremiah? I asked myself. Was it really? "I'm Blue Gravity," I replied with my chin up.

He wrinkled his nose and with a grunt, he informed me, "I'm not a damsel in distress."

Smacking my lips together, I tried not to express my bewilderment. To be perfectly honest, I didn't imagine Dark Wonder like this at all. He gave me a scorn and began fighting one the gang members. My eyes widened when he grabbed one of them by the arm and threw them up. They fell onto his fists and he punched them, rendering them unconscious.

     Well, then.

"Are you going to fight or just stand there looking dumb?" He raised an eyebrow at me, annoyed and definitely angry.

"Uh...okay?" I trailed off meekly, hesitant and anxious. Not only was I incredibly nervous and on edge but I suddenly found myself being dubious to even take part in this. My heart hammered against my chest aggressively as sweat dripped down my forehead and I breathed in some cold air. I began fidgeting and awkwardly moved around.

"Listen," he said and placed a hand on his hip, his words reluctant to be spoken out loud. "If you don't even know how to fight I can just escort you out." A slow smile eased on my face when he stepped forward to the edge of the roof and waved his hands, motioning towards what he thought would be the exit. Funny.

"No, no," I quickly said rejecting the idea with a move of my hands. "I can help. I'll fight."

He clenched his jaw and clicked his tongue. Wait...Did he really want me to leave?

"Then fight!" He yelled and got into a fighting stance. I mimicked his position in the air, still floating. "You go after those two guys," he instructed and pointed towards a few men who were advancing towards an escape, attempting to leave the scene. "I'll go for these guys."

I nodded and made my way to them. Crossing my arms over my chest, I stood in front of the two men. Hoping that I looked a little scary.

They seethed at me and drew their weapons forward in a threatening matter. For a moment I pondered over simply taking the knives out of their hands with my gravity powers. The idea was condoned when I realized that I didn't practice enough to have the capability of doing that. I opted for a different solution.

"You want to take them by surprise,"  I recalled Jude's words when he gave me tips last night. "Go for a punch but instead knee them or elbow them. Anything but what they expect."

I licked my lips and approached one of them as the other stood a few steps behind me. Making it seem like I was going to punch the one in front of me, I did a roundhouse kick to the one in back of me. He stumbled to the ground with a cough. The one in front of me snarled and raised his knife to me. I caught a hold of his wrists and then slammed my foot on his. He groaned and I elbowed him in the face.

    You can do this.

He clenched his jaw and spat blood out. I cringed and looked away from the sight. That wasn't so smart. The moment I looked away he punched my stomach. I groaned and clutched onto it. I tried to remember the boxing moves Jude taught me.

I swiftly caught his fists and ducked. With my other hand, I gave him a straight punch. I sighed and side kicked him. Finally. He's down. He was so persistent.

"Yo," Dark Wonder called. "Superhero with the nerdy name."

I looked over at him and tilted my head. "Yeah?"

"Think fast," he said and threw something at me.

With eyes wide, my vision did that thing again. I saw two things at once. A couple of blades running through the air towards my direction and behind that was Dark Wonder's tired expression. I gasped and with these gravity powers, I made them stay in the air. Much to my relief, there were a couple of inches to my face. I gawked at Dark Wonder with disbelief.

I was about to say something. I wasn't sure what I'd say but he ended up interrupting me. "Nice reflexes."

What did he think would happen by throwing those blades at me!? I'm suddenly more scared of him than these actual criminals that I'm fighting.

Dark Wonder plopped down to the floor, resting his back against a pipe. He yawned and watched me fight. Rolling my eyes, I decided not to question it. I mean he just got kidnapped, he deserves a break if anything. I continued fighting the rest of Razor's members. They had fallen easily, already tired from Dark Wonder. I tried my best to utilize my powers when it came to each attack, wanting to educate myself as I helped out.

I used gravity to trip them and then throw in a punch or kick. With every move, I took a mental note of what worked best and what I should definitely not try doing again. For example: don't play with them like they're dolls. They tend to get angrier and therefore have an actual motive to really hurting me. Not so fun, to be perfectly honest.

"Do you sense it?" Dark Wonder asked me while taking the rope out of his pocket. He actually had plenty of pockets. It seemed useful. "Tie them up." He threw the rope to me.

I smiled to myself when I caught it. Yes! "Sense it?" I questioned back, curious and unsure of what exactly he meant.

He scanned the area as he answered me, "Yeah." His eyes were narrowed with suspicion.

Licking my lips, I tied the men up like Dark Wonder told me. I thought about his question and gave him a response. "You mean like there's another person?"

"Yeah." He nodded with confusion. "How did you know?"

Deductive skills. I'm basically Sherlock Holmes. It's no big deal.

"Well, you keep looking around so I just assumed," I explained and then remembered that strange feeling I felt while flying. Almost like someone was stalking me. I didn't think too much of it. When you take the time to think about it. It makes perfect sense why someone would stare or follow me. I'm flying! That's weird. Like inhuman sort of weird. "Also, I do sense something that's been following me around. It's been here for a while."

He glared at me. "Do you see that person?"

"No," I said and frowned. I wasn't necessarily looking.

"Whatever," he shook his head, seeming disappointed. "I'm out of here."

I watched as he was about to leave when I realized he didn't leave his signature sarcastic note. "Don't you usually leave a note?"

"Oh, right." He took a pen and paper out and he asked. "What to write?" I looked over his shoulder, watching as he wrote. Should I be doing this too when I fight people or do any heroic acts? Or would that be like copying him? I have a feeling if I ask him anything he'll push me off the roof.

"Could you not?" Dark Wonder pushed me away while rolling his eyes with distaste.

I took a step back and clasped my hands together while fiddling with my feet. I secretly read over the note he wrote.'You're freaking welcome'. It said and he signed it. 'The one you call Dark Wonder and also Blue Gravity'.

"I'm surprised that you're actually giving me some credit," I said and smacked my lips. He jumped when I spoke, clearly startled.

"Do you want to write anything?" He offered, making me smile.

"It's okay," I shook my head. Maybe if I'm extra nice to him we could actually get along and not deal with this unnecessary tension that's turning more than awkward.

He didn't say anything for a while and took out a flip phone. He began dialing a number and turned his attention to me before he hit call. "I'll call the cops then."

"What?" I gasped. "Why? I don't understand." Did I do something wrong? Was he going to get the police to take me to jail? Was it because I was underage? Is there even an age limit? I have school tomorrow, I can't afford to go to jail.

One thing is for sure, I need to not panic.

"Find your chill, man," he chuckled. My chill. . . I need to find my chill. Okay. "I'm giving an anonymous tip for them to come here."

     That definitely calmed me down.

"Oh, by the way, do you know how long it's been since we've been fighting?" I asked, coming to the realization that it was late and it'd be difficult to sneak back into the house.

"It's been," he started and glanced at his watch. "A long time."

     "Specific," I said dryly.

"Always," he winked and as if it was normal, he ran off the roof. "Bye."

Trying not to freak out, I immediately ran after him, catching his fall and carrying him up as I flew. "Are you crazy? We're you trying to kill yourself? You don't just jump off roofs."

Now I sound like Jude. Oh, my goodness. He probably thinks I'm some sort of weirdo or something. He has the whole situation wrong and I'll never be able to explain it to him. I inwardly facepalmed myself at the memory and kept my firm grip and hooked around Dark Wonder's arms.

     He was a bit heavy.

"When your superhero that's exactly what you do," he told me. "You can put me down now."

"Since we're already up here why don't I just fly you somewhere close to home?" I offered. Maybe we can like. . . talk? Become friends? I don't know how this works! Argh. I know he doesn't like me, though.

He had his arms over his chest expressing his frustration as I soared through the sky, feeling the wind flush against my cheeks.

"Fine," he agreed and though I couldn't be certain, I think I saw a hint of a smile. "You can drop me off at the 711 by Skyline High School."

"Do you know how to get there from here?" I asked, needing directions. I kinda suck if I don't memorize the map beforehand.

"Hehehe," he giggled in an evil way. "That's actually one of my powers."

     "I don't follow."

"That's because I denied your request," he replied condescendingly. I didn't bother to try and figure out his joke and listened as elaborated. "I have super senses," he began. "One of them is a sense of direction."

"That's cool," I complimented. It's probably useful to find shortcuts when he's late or something.

He pointed towards the places I should fly to and as we flew I made sure to do anything but pay attention to the ground. We're really high. "Like I said before I have super senses." He went on and I nodded, encouraging him to continue. "That means all the normal five senses have enhanced for me and I also have extra senses. Like my Stranger Danger sense, sick sense, fashion sense -"

"A fashion sense?" I laughed. Now that seems a bit ridiculous.

"How do you think I came up with this costume?" He shot back seriously. "Speaking of costumes. I don't get yours."

"You mean the symbol on my chest?" I stopped flying forward when a few birds came by. "Its gravity," I said and started to fly again. "Since that has to do with my powers and all."

"How did you get your powers?" He brought up another question.

     Well, he's being unusually talkative.

"That would take the rest of the night to explain." I frowned and bit my lip. I barely knew what was happening myself. And now that I'm actually thinking about this, what the heck am I even doing? Oh, my goodness! "Besides, my little origin story isn't over yet. I need to find out a couple of things."

Like what was in that drug, to begin with.

"Well, hey," he said with an upbeat tone. "At least, you know how you got your powers."

"Sometimes I wish I didn't," I muttered quietly. That way I wouldn't feel like such a liar every time I went to Dr. Robertson's lab. The guilt has been tormenting me more and more. "You really don't know how you got your powers?" I questioned him.

     "I really don't."

"So I guess we're both still figuring that out?" I cracked a smile. "It's ironic, though."

"What is?" He asked, not knowing where I was going with this.

"My powers." I noticed the 711 that he wanted to me to take him to and began lowering us

"Do elaborate," he demanded while waving his hands.

"That I have the ability to fly when I'm scared of heights."

"No way," he gasped with amusement. "Well, whatever you do Blue Gravity just don't look down! Don't do it. Don't give in. I understand you're feeling the super temptations-"

"Ha," I cut him off with a low chuckle. "You said super."

Why do I find things like that funny?

"Don't look down!" He teased and smirked in an agonizing manner.

"I won't hesitate to drop you," I warned him feeling the sudden need to do just that.

"It's a good thing we're close to the ground," he scoffed playfully.

"You're not as funny as you think you are," I said.

"What are you talking about?" He looked at me with disbelief as if that entire notion was utterly impossible. "I'm freaking hilarious."

I shrugged and dropped him down.

"Have a nice night." I saluted him and flew home, getting lost more than a couple of times.

     He wasn't too bad.

*clears throat*

Super sorry I didn't get to update on Wednesday. *awkward smile* School work is all over the place and like apparently my priorities are supposed to be education or whatever. I don't know, some BS that my parents came up with.

The point is that I did update now. *sweet smile*

So I hope you liked it <3. I love writing Jeremiah and Lucas interacting but having them DW and BG. It makes me laugh for days. Also, side fact, the actual Jeremiah fighting scenes, and super stuff action is gonna be later if you know what I mean. *wiggles eyebrows* You're not ready for his life *evil laugh* Jeremiah is more hesitant and cautious compared to Lucas so I hope you all can stay patient for that.

Though this is technically a fighting scene even tho he doesn't really know what he's doing. ;)

Btw um...we're already up to chapter 10!!! this is so exciting. I'm SO EXCITED. chapter 10 like woah. That's awesome.

Anywhoooore, please vote, comment, share, smile, dance, read and eat.

P.S: if you have any tips, ideas, suggestions please pm me, that would be awesome. Any idea is good because I could just base a chapter off of it and update quicker ;-). So if there's a certain thing that you want to happen just comment it!

Love ya'll <3
