Chapter 6: Caught In A Thunderstorm
>>Kioshi POV<<
The sun is shining through my curtains and onto my face. My eyes fluttered open and I was blinded by the bright summer sun. I glance over at Tadao and see that he's still asleep. It's a nice day out so maybe we can get out of the house and do something. Tadao will be hungry when he wakes up so I'll make us some breakfast. Pushing myself up with my arms I quietly get up and shut the door behind me.
While I pulled out a pan to cook the eggs and bacon in I thought about where we could go. Since he's a cat he's limited as to where we can go out in public together. Perhaps the park or maybe the gazebo in the woods that's surrounded by cherry blossoms. I used to go there when I was little because the fresh air calmed me when nobody else could. My parents didn't really care about how I felt or if I was lonely while they were gone all day at work. I'm glad they don't live here in Japan anymore. They ruined my life and I haven't missed them not once since they abandoned me at the age of 16. I became my own person; responsible, smart, and independent. I didn't need them in my life anymore.
I heard the bedroom door creek open and out came Tadao wearing an extremely large sweatshirt that he must have taken out of my closet. He hugged me from behind and sniffed the air. "Morning Tadao." "Good morning Kioshi!" Tadao said happily. I smiled at his cute face that he made. You could tell he was still sleepy because he kept yawning constantly. "Tadao, why don't you go back to sleep. I'll wake you when breakfast is ready." He shakes his head furiously obviously thankful for the invitation to go back to sleep. Tadao wandered off into the living room and laid down on the couch.
"Tadao. Tadao wake up. Breakfast is ready Tadao." "Mmm, okay" Tadao said. I walked back into the kitchen with Tadao on my heels eager to eat. I pulled out his chair for him and sat down in my own seat. "Thank you Kioshi." I just smile at him as I reach out to grab the syrup. I had made pancakes, bacon, and eggs. Tadao licked his lips unable to decide which to eat first. I had cut his eggs and pancakes up into small bites so he could eat it easily. Tadao picked his fork up and stabbed his piece of bacon and shoved it in his mouth. "Haha, Tadao you don't eat your bacon like that. You pick it up with your fingers and eat it. It doesn't require a fork." "Oh, I didn't know sorry." He apologized. "Hey you don't have to apologize for everything, you know. I know you don't know a lot of things, but that's why I'm here to help you." Tadao looks at me in awe. He gives me a warm smile and says thank you about a million times for my help and for being nice. I laugh at how adorable he is when he gets like this. "So Tadao I wanted to go out today." "To where?! Are you going to leave me alone again?! Please don't Kioshi!" "Don't worry your coming with me okay?" "YAY!" Tadao exclaims. I reach over and pet his head making him purr in delight.
I washed the dishes and told Tadao that I was going to take a shower. The warm water hit my back soothing me. Massaging my scalp with shampoo I don't realize that I had begun to hum a tune. I also didn't realize that Tadao had come in and was listening to my song. As I turned the water off and grabbed a towel off the rack I turned around and saw Tadao staring at me. "AHH! Tadao what are you DOING in here?!" He flinches due to my yelling and starts to walk out but I grab his wrist and spin him around so he is facing me. "Tadao I'm sorry, I didn't mean to yell. You just surprised me that's all. I'm sorry. And what were you doing in here?" Tadao looked back up at me pleased with my apology and said "I heard you singing so I wanted to get a better listen!" Oh yeah I had been singing while I washed my hair. "Haha well I'm not that great a singer so you might not want to listen to me again." "I thought you were great Kioshi!" He hugs me and I just laugh. "Thank you Tadao." I lean down and kiss the top of his head. Tadao grins and hugs me tighter. "Tadao I have to get ready okay?" "Okay." He says reluctantly not wanting to let go. I walk around him and go to my closet and pull out a pair of light blue jeans and a short sleeve white button down shirt. Tadao will have to stay a cat most of the time but if we go to the gazebo he might can change to his human self. I decide to take an extra pair of clothes for him and put it in a backpack. I walk out of the room and into the kitchen and grab two bottles of water and two sandwiches that I had made while I was cooking breakfast. I put them into the bag as well and grab an umbrella and put it in there too, just in case. Tadao walks over to me and asks when we are leaving. "Now, actually. I finished packing up our stuff so you can change into a cat now Tadao." He smiles at me and slowly starts to change.
>>Tadao POV<<
We're walking down the street side by side. People around us are staring and whispering. It's making me uncomfortable. Kioshi sees the distress in my eyes and whispers "sorry, I didn't expect this to happen." He picks up the pace a little and I have to run to keep up with him. Kioshi stops out of nowhere causing me to hit my head against his leg. I rubb my head with my paw gently as I quietly hiss at him. He turns around and picks me up setting me on his shoulders. He pats my head softly letting me know that he is sorry. I lick his cheek with my rough, wet tongue, earning a slight giggle from him. Kioshi starts walking again and I stretch out across his shoulders relaxing. It's been about five minutes when Kioshi finally stops walking again. I peer around his head and sit up on my hind legs. Laying before me is a white gazebo with beautiful cherry blossoms surrounding it. The sight of it takes me by surprise and Kioshi looks at me from the corner of his eye. "Mew!" I say knowing that he can't understand. I jump off his shoulder and run towards the gazebo, up the steps and into the middle of the floor. Kioshi laughs and pulls out a camera. He tells me to be still. 'Click!' He smiles at it which makes me happy as I walk back over to him. He shows me the picture and I can't help but to smile as well. It was a good picture and it made me happy that Kioshi was going to keep it as a memory of this day. Kioshi pulled the pair of clothes out for me and set them on the ground. Once he turned around I quickly changed.
>>Kioshi POV<<
Tadao tapped my shoulder when he was finished changing. "Kioshi, I have a question." "Yes, Tadao?" "Well, while we were walking down the street everybody kept staring at us. Why?" I had figured Tadao would have asked this. Most of the people on the streets that we saw today were people that I had known most of my life. They were people I went to when I had nobody else. My parents would be gone and I would be bored at home alone, so I decided to go outside. People would see me and automatically try to suck up to me. My parents were very rich and my mom owned most of the real estate around the area. She was known for her exceptional skills in selling homes and other buildings. My dad was one of the most talented and hardworking surgeons in Tokyo. Everyone looked up to my parents and saw pure talent and exceptional skills. They admired them. All I saw in them was selfishness. I hated my parents; they were cruel beings who didn't care about their one and only son. During my childhood I grew to believe that I was mistake. That they didn't want me, and that I was worthless to them. I was right. When I turned 16 they were glad that I was old enough to live on my own. They gave me enough money to buy off my apartment and for when I go to college. I had other life savings as well for food and essentials and such. One thing they didn't know was that I wasn't planning to go to college. They wanted me to be just like them but I couldn't except the fact that I would be as cruel and lifeless as them. So when they saw me outside on the streets today they were curious. I never really left my apartment except for school and to buy food and sometimes clothes. What really surprised them though was that I wasn't alone. The people knew that I didn't talk much and that I had no friends. When they saw Tadao they were shocked. I would be too if I wasn't the one that was actually walking with the cat. Tadao is the only one that has talked to me in a long time and has actually made me happy. Tadao was special and I loved him. I didn't care if he was part cat. Tadao made me happy and cared about me. I loved him more than anything in the world. And the best thing about this whole situation was that Tadao was mine. Only mine.... "Kioshi? Kioshi?! Kioshi!" Tadao was yelling at me. "Sorry my mind drifted apart." Tadao giggles and asks me again, "so do you know why they were looking at us?" "Yes, Tadao I do." I explained to Tadao why they were staring and he seemed shocked. His face turned from surprised to upset to angry and then finally to admiration and happiness. Tadao was happy when he heard the last part. He even started to cry a little. "K-Kioshi, I love y-you too! You m-make me happy too. You r-rescued me and I a-am grateful, Kioshi!" Tadao sobbed into my chest making my shirt wet but I didn't care. Every time Tadao said he loved me it made me leap with joy. I started to cry too and Tadao looked up at me smiling. We held each other like that for a while. Tadao finally let go and said, "Kioshi I'm hungry. Did you bring any food?" I grabbed my backpack and took the water and sandwiches out for us. Tadao and I walked up to the gazebo to sit and ate our lunch gazing at the cherry blossoms together.
>>Tadao POV<<
Kioshi and I had finished our lunch and we were starting to walk back home. My tail started twitching and I could tell it was about to rain. The sky got dark and people were running inside for cover. Kioshi pulled out the umbrella and opened it while waiting for it to start raining. He picked me up and put me on his shoulders again. "Mew" Kioshi looked at me and said "Looks like it's going to rain. Good thing I bought an umbrella, huh?"
I licked his ear making him laugh. We were almost to his apartment when it started to rain hard. You could barely see anything and it started to thunder LOUDLY. I hate thunderstorms. They scare me half to death. My previous owners used to laugh at me when I cowered at the sound of thunder. Kioshi held me in his arms tightly trying to comfort me. "It's okay Tadao. We're almost home." I heard a loud crack come from the sky and it made me shake uncontrollably. Kioshi started to whisper sweet nothings in my ears to calm me down. Eventually it worked but was soon interrupted by another loud boom. It was so loud that it made my fur stand on end and I ended up jumping out of Kioshis arms and landing on my feet. I started to whine and whimper scared that I was going to get hurt. Kioshi looked down at me and said something but I couldn't hear over the sound of the the rain pounding on the ground. Kioshi bent down and held his arm out to me. I slowly walked towards him and crawled back up his shoulders hiding my face and ears in the crook of his neck. It took about 5 more minutes to get home and when Kioshi opened the door to his apartment I bolted inside. I ran towards his room and hid under the bed. The sound of thunder had grown louder and my body was trembling. "Tadao? Tadao where are you?" I let out a pitiful meow and Kioshi bent down to see. He looked like he was in pain and that made me upset. I crawled out from under the bed and into Kioshis arms trying to comfort him. 'Was he scared of thunderstorms too?' I thought to myself. Kioshi picked me up and laid down on the bed cradling me tightly. I licked his face trying to make that awful facial expression go away. He smiled at me and that made me relax. "Tadao it makes me upset to see you scared like this." Oh, that's why he looked like he was in pain. "Meow." Kioshi pet me while I purred into his chest. It was about an hour later when the rain finally stopped. Kioshi had dozed off and I was staring at his peaceful sleeping face. He rubbed his eyes and looked at me. "Hey, the rain stopped. That's good." I nodded my head in agreement and got off his chest. I changed back to my human form and sat staring out the window. I had the sheet covering me up but soon it was snatched away from me. "Huh? Kioshi what did you do that for?" Kioshi hugged me from behind and nibbled at my ear making me shiver from his warm touch. "Continuing where we left off yesterday night."
