Fine
I wipe my eyes. I'm fine. I'm fine. I'm Cassandra Hobbes, I'm fine. I'm fine. I'm totally fine.
I'm not fine.
Why would I be? They just found my mum's body after five years. Five years. I take a deep breath and splash my face with some water. I'm fine.
Hopefully - if I see him - Michael doesn't point out that I'm not fine. And when anyone asks if I'm ok, Lia doesn't say anything about me lying when I say I am fine.
I grab my bag tightly and head outside. Smiling at Nonna as I pass her.
I'm fine.
A few minutes later, I follow Judd up to the helicopter.
I'm fine. I'm fine. I'm fine. I'm Cassie Hobbes. I'm fine. I'm my mother's daughter. I'm a fighter. A survivor.
"Cassie," Judd says gently, trying to get me up one more step. He knows. Of course he knows.
I carry on following him. I can do this.
When I enter, 5 seats are taken. Briggs, Sterling, Lia, Sloane and Dean - no Michael. I smile weakly as I sit next to Dean - who's playing some sort of game with Sloane. I feel his hand on my leg, palm up, waiting for me to take it - which I do.
I've missed this, us. Maybe, just maybe, I can be fine for a little longer.
