Paige's POV
I'm Paige. I am from the Pearl Nation. I have the power of air and wind. That's really all I can do. The Jade people call us Wind Soul. I like that name, but they call me Pay, even though I am Paige. And by them, I mean the Jade people that come here, just to make fun of us.
The day my quest started, was not a normal day. It was an important day. My father was coming home. He left to serve the Jade King, and said he would return on June 1st, just in time for my birthday. Here's how I remember it...
"Mother! Love you!" I shouted as I ran out of the door. My clothes were usually ragged, but today, they were perfect. Not a wrinkle or rip in sight. I put my auburn hair into a braid as I ran (which took years to master) and I got to work in no time. Yes, I am twelve, and working. I work at the West Dock, and I help sail the ships with my wind breeze.
Mother called something after me, but I was already gone. When I got there, I met my friend, Plia.
"Hey Paige!" Plia shouted to me. "Do you see that ship?"
"Hiya Plia (plee-a)! What ship?" I scanned the horizon, until I saw it; a massive sail ship that glowed in the sun. I smiled as I saw my boss, and I quickly put my head down and bowed.
"Paige, what do you think you're doing?" He asked. I bowed lower. He pushed my head onto the ground. I did not dare save myself. I face planted right into the sand. My face turned red with anger, and I wanted to stand my ground, but this was my only job.
"About to do work, Sir.," I replied, my face covered in sand. My boss was plump, yet he was very tall. He was old, and he assumed he was perfect, for he was a Jade man.
"Well, go do your work."
All of a sudden, the wind blew so hard, it knocked Plia over. The sun shined right over me. The water became reckless and the waves sloshed over us. Boss looked around. "What are you doing child? Make it stop!"
A fragile voice, stale but dark, started talking. There was no body to this voice, yet it was alive. "Young Paige, you and the five other kids are going to The Jade Palace to serve the Jade King like your fathers. There is a murderous plan, and you are going to risk your life to save the king."
"Go," Boss urged.
"But- my father... He's coming today..." I stuttered.
"No, he's not. He's probably dead," Plia stated, her face in a trance. I realized that she was the one that spoke, I just didn't see it.
"Plia? Are you...?" I started and she nodded. She was Jade. Probably a maid or something.
"I am Jadiah (Jade-Dee-A), daughter of King Jake of Jade, and Queen Katara of Aleak, a southern nation near the Nations of Jade," Plia said in her new fragile voice. I had a feeling it was her real voice. She cleared her throat and frowned at me. "You're father is not coming home, and you are going to the Jade Palace to protect the king, as your father did. Good day."
She pivoted on her foot and left. Boss rose from his knees, for he must have been bowing on his knees while Plia, or should I say Jadiah of Jade, was talking. "Get up you pathetic worm!" I shout to him.
"Paige, if you make it back alive... You would be a hero. A sensation. Something the world and the Jade Palace will thank you for... For like, years!" My boss exclaimed. And I will be rich, for I am the one who basically sent you..."
"No! I am not going. And that Jadiah girl, I don't like her. Plia was my best friend. And she's been a lie! You are not gonna tell anyone about this, ever!" I scolded.
"I'm gonna tell the world... I"M GONNA BE RICH!!!" Boss cried.
"You selfish brat! Maybe this will make the tides turn!" I put an air bubble around him, and forced the oxygen out. He started gasping for breath until he nodded. A voice other than my boss' told me that enough was enough, and I thought it wasn't just talking about the air bubble, but the Jade King. I stopped the bubble and he gaped for air. That wasn't me. Something else was speaking for me... Someone else...
"Mercy!" He panted. "You showed me mercy."
"Whatever. Just don't forget it. I'm takin' a break!" I stormed off. I couldn't really tell who I was anymore. I was helpless, exhausted, and flabbergasted (I know it is not a word, but it seemed appropriate). I tried to get home, but Jadiah was waiting for me around the block.
"You're coming with me."
That's all I remember from before I was captured. The world went black.
