*Spencer POV*
I wake up the next day and see I'm not in my bedroom. I then remembered I stayed at Joey's. I grab a change of clothes from the dresser in the guest room where I stash some of my clothes at. I change into them and go downstairs. I eat some breakfast then go back upstairs. I grab my phone, keys, wallet, and backpack. Once I go back downstairs I text Callen.
S-hey have you left for work yet
C-leaving now.
S-can you pick me up? I'm at a friend's house. I'll send you the address
C-yeah
I send him the address and then write Joey a note. I place it on the coffee maker and go wait outside. Callen pulls up and I hop in.
"So what was going on with you and Nell last night" he asks
"She just asked if I was alright. Why" I ask
"I think she likes you. Well Sam and I do. We're the only ones who saw. Well Eric might've." He says
"Aren't those two a thing" I ask
"Eric wanted it to be a thing but he realized later on that they're better off as just really good friends." He says
"Oh. But how could she like me?" I ask
"Well for starters you are single. She loves it when people live on the edge. She also likes singers and yeah you practically meet all her standards." Callen says
"Oh. Ok" I say
We arrive to HQ and go in. We go to our desks and sit down. No one else is here yet except Hetty.
"Mr. Kane I'd like to have a word with you in my office" she says
I get up and go over to her.
"Yeah" I ask
"We need to figure out a schedule for you. Some days you have to be here but you also have to be with your band." She says
"I know. Well tomorrow is Friday and we have a music video to shoot and then a concert at night." I say
"Ok. So mon-Thursday you're here. Except Wednesday. Wednesday and Friday you are there. The only reason you aren't here those days is if there's a concert or music video and only reason you don't go to the band is if we have a case" She says
"Alright" I say
I go back to my desk and sit down. I pull out my laptop and send Caleb an email about what Hetty and I discussed.
"Good morning G. Good morning Spence" sam says walking in
"Good morning Sam. Where are the other three" I ask
"Kensi and Deeks are here already. Kensi sent me a text saying that they were coming in to do some type of stretching something" Sam says
"Not again" Callen says
"Yeah" Sam says
"Where's Anna" Callen asks
"I'm here" we hear
We look past Sam and Anna walks in yawning.
"How much sleep did you get" I ask
"Oh yeah when you left we all went out. Then once everyone left I wasn't tired so I went to the movies" Anna says
Sam is about to say something but Kensi walks in.
"Where's the other one" Callen asks
"He's coming. He's a bit sore" Kensi says
"Kensi baby I thought we were doing a little workout not killing me" Deeks yells
"Become more flexible" I shout
"Kane I'm gonna kill you" Deeks says
"I'd like to see you try." I say
He walks in and glares at me.
"Sorry to interrupt you all but we have a case" Eric says
We go upstairs and I take my spot behind the table beside Deeks.
"Dude have you ever played nerf in the middle of the night" he whispers
"No. Have you ever gone midnight swimming" I ask
"No" he says
"We should do both of them at the same time" I say
"Yes" he says
"Yo tweedle dee and tweedle dum you paying attention" Sam asks
I look at the screen and I lose all color from my face.
"Spencer you ok" Kensi asks
"Yeah yeah I'm alright" I say
"This is Bridget Meyers. She was found dead in her car late last night." Nell says
"Boyfriend or husband" Deeks asks
"Husband died 14 years ago. We believe it's the same people not sure" Eric says
"Any next of kin" Sam asks
"We're still looking into it" Nell says
"Alright so we'll all just go to the crime scene." Callen says
"G, you and Spencer are going to stay here" Sam says
Callen goes to say something but Sam gives him a look and he shuts up. The rest leave and Callen goes downstairs to the bullpen. I go to walk away but stopped by a whistle. I turn around and see Nell standing near me.
"Let's go on a walk and talk about what ever is bothering you" she says
"I'm alright." I say
"No you're not. Just go. It will help" Eric says
I shrug and follow her. She goes over to Callen and whispers something to him then we continue outside.
"What relation do you have with Bridget" she asks
"What" I ask
"I saw how you reacted as soon as you looked at the screen. I know all the color drained from your face cause you recognize her" she says
"She's my aunt." I say
"Oh Spencer I'm so sorry" she says
"It's alright. It's not your fault. When my uncle got killed that's when I decided I wanted to be an NCIS agent. I was only six then but I already decided." I say
"Was she close to you" she asks
"Yeah I guess. I mean I'm an only child so I never had anyone to hang out with and when my parents were working I'd hang out with her and then my uncle when he got home. Once he died I still spent a lot of time with my aunt" I say
"Did she have any kids" Nell asks
"No. And she's my moms only sibling so there are no other nephews or nieces" I say
"Ok. What about grandparents" she asks
"My dads parents both died before I was born and my mom's parents moved to California a year or two after I was born" I say
"There's something else still bothering you. Isn't there" she asks
"I'm not cut out for this job. I've been here for what a week or two and I've already been held captive, shot at, beat up undercover, and now a family member dies" I say
"Spencer don't quit. You are meant to have this job. You are an excellent agent. Yes it gets hard at times but it will get better. Why don't you talk to Deeks about this. He had a moment when he first started that he thought he wasn't cut out for it and he was going to quit" she says
"Maybe." I say
We get back to ops and she gives me a hug and I hug her back. We go inside and she heads upstairs while I go to my desk. I grab my stuff and walk out ignoring all of Callens calls. I get in my car and drive home. I go in and drop my stuff then sit on the couch. I grab my phone out and call my mom.
M-hey Spencer
S-hey mom. I really don't want to be calling about this but I thought it d be best coming from me
M-Spencer what's wrong? You're scaring me
S-aunt Bridget died. She was found last night in her car shot.
M-oh my
S-do you know why she was here in Nashville
M-well she does live in North Carolina now so I'm not sure
S-when did she move there
M-two months ago
S-ok
M-bye Spence. Love you
S-love you too. I'll tell you if I find anything else out
I hang up and put my phone down. I lay down on the couch and turn the tv off. Eventually I fall asleep. I wake up a couple hours later and there's no noise. I look to the tv and it's off. I look behind the couch and my five coworkers are standing behind it. I lay back down and close my eyes.
"You okay Spence?" Kensi asks
"Nell told us about your talk with her. Well actually she played it. She recorded it" Sam says
"Yeah. I'm okay" I say
"Hey if you need to take time off we totally understand" Callen says
"Just not to much. You're the only one out of the guys I can handle" Anna says
"Hurtful" Callen says
I smile softly and shake my head.
"Awe look we made him smile" Kensi says
"Hey guys can I talk with him alone" Deeks asks
"Yeah. We'll be outside" Sam says
I hear feet moving and then the door close. I open my eyes and sit up. Deeks comes over and sits on the other side of the couch.
"Once all the others went away Nell played me the rest of the tape. She's right. I know exactly how you feel. It was my first day with NCIS. Well my first day being with them completely. I had already had a rough week with the police department and then we were on a case and it was tight. Sam was deep undercover. He needed help and no one else was around to save him but me. I did but then I got captured and tortured same with him. They wanted to know about his wife. I wouldn't give any information up. They broke my jaw. Beat me consistently. Once I was released from the hospital I felt like I was terrible for the job. That I didn't belong. I was packing up my stuff. But then the others joined together and was there for me. And we're here for you. We're family. Even though Sam still always picks on me I know he's eternally grateful for saving him and his wife. If I was in trouble ever I know he'd be the first one to jump in and save me. We're a family here and family has to stick together" he says
"Thanks Deeks. That really means a lot" I whisper
"No problem. Now let's talk about you and Nell" he says
"Why? Nothing's going on between us" I say
"Yeah right. She likes you. And I know you're starting to get feelings for her too" he says
"No" I mumble
The door opens and Callen walks in.
"I was getting bored out there" he says
"Sure" Deeks says
"Come on we're all going out for dinner come with us" Callen says
"It's only 5:30" I say
"Anna and Kens are hungry" Callen says
"Are they coming" we hear Kensi yell
"Hmm I don't know" Deeks says
"Come on. Let's not keep your fiancé waiting" I say
We get up and walk outside.
"Your lucky Spencer was here" Deeks grumbles
"This is why we like him most. Sam is a close second though" Kensi says
"Wait we only brought one vehicle" Deeks says
"Some can ride with me" I say
"Dibs" Kensi and Anna yell
"Oh great" Deeks says
"Haha. Have fun" Kensi says
*Deeks POV*
the girls get in Spencer's car which means I'm stuck with the other two. I get in the back of Callens car and buckle up. Sam then gets in the back on the other side.
"Why aren't you sitting upfront" I ask
"I want to talk to you and it's easier to do it when we're both sitting back here." He says
"Oh. What do you want to talk about" I ask
"I heard what you said in there. Well I'm the only one who heard what you said at least I think I am." Sam says
"How" I ask
"We both still had our coms in" he says
"Oh. What did you want to talk about then" I ask
"I want to say sorry." He says
"Really? For what" I ask
"For all those times I've made fun of you. For those times I've doubted your skill as an agent. You're really great and I do thank you for saving me and my wife. I still owe you a lot" he says
"Saving you was nothing. It's my job. And you making fun of me or whatever. I deserve it. I fool around and screw up a lot." I say
"No Deeks. You don't deserve it and G and I keep giving you a lot of crap and stuff but that's gonna change. You've really showed yourself. Even from day 1 and we just never realized it" Sam says
We arrive and I go to get out but Callen locks the doors.
"Deeks, Sam's right. We've been jerks to you. We really have. And we're sorry. And I also owe you. You saved my partners life. Well my former partner I guess. We're both very grateful. And most of the time when we give you a hard time it's about Kensi and that's because she's like a sister to us and we want to protect her. But most of it is going to come to an end" Callen says
"Ok" I say
He unlocks the door and we get out. We go in and find where the other three are sitting we go over and sit down as well. After dinner and each have a drink we go back to ops. Kens and I get in the car and drive home. We go in and I go straight upstairs. I get charged then lay in bed thinking about everything the other two said to me. I drift off to sleep as my brain is still processing everything.
