*Griffin POV*
I just got done with church and now Grisha and I are headed to lunch.
"How are preparations for the wedding going" I ask
"Ok. How's the band" he asks
"Just ok" I ask
"I answered your question. Now answer mine" he says
"Fine. The band is good. We've been busy with writing mashups and our podcast and choosing which songs to cover" I say
"I don't understand how you can work two jobs and still have a personal life" he says
"I'm just better at multitasking than you are brother" I say
"Yeah okay" He says
"Now give me more than a one word or sentence answer. Why are you so afraid to get married" I ask
"What do you mean" he asks
"That was one sentence. I said more than one sentence" I say
"Fine. I'm not sure that I'm afraid to get married. More like I'm afraid to let someone into my life. Like deep into my life. Yeah I have you and Mom and Bailey but you all only know the Callen part of me. No one knows the broken G. Yeah Bailey knows some of it and Deeks probably knows a lot of it but no one knows all of it. Getting married to someone means having to share everything and help through thick and thin. I can do the help part. I don't know about the share part. I don't want to lie to her but I don't want her having to get in the middle of everything bad going on in my life or in the years to come." He says
I look at him and tears are threatening to spill. I pull into a parking lot and get out. He gets out as well. There's a bench outside so we go and sit down.
"I know I didn't live a life like you but I had parents or people who I thought were my parents who lied to me my whole life. I then had to discover all of it at once. It's a heavy load of baggage. However, once I shared it all with Nell I felt like half of the load was lifted off of my shoulders. It still resonates with me but I don't have to worry about it as much because I was able to share it. Even if you don't want to share it with Bailey you have other people you can talk to. Mom, me, Sam, Kensi, Nell, Hetty, and believe it or not Deeks or Nate. Those two are probably your best options. Deeks because he has experienced a lot of things that you have experienced and Nate because he knows you, he knows how you think and that everything sitting inside of you has been in there a while cooking and ready to start boiling over if it hasn't already" I say
"Thanks Griff. That means a lot" he says
"You're welcome. Now how about you go and work on finding a place to get married at?" I ask
"Yeah" He says
"Good" I say
"One question" he says
"Shoot" I say
"Why didn't you list Eric as one of the people I could talk to" he asks
"Do you want to go to him for advice or to pour out your feelings to? He'd come up with this whole theory and stuff like that. Nobody got time for that" I say
"True" he laughs
We get back in my car and I head to Deeks house because Bailey told me she'd be over there working with the other two on wedding stuff. We get there and go in the house.
"Hey" Bailey says
"Hey" Callen says
"Hey Griff" Kensi says
"Hey Kens" I say
"Hello Griffin. Thanks for dropping him off to us but if you don't mind we got places to be and things to do" Deeks says
"Hello to you to" I say
"Bye bro. Thanks for earlier." Callen says
"You're welcome. Now I'm going to take Monty with me for the rest of the day. You all have fun finishing up with the wedding details." I say
I call for Monty and he comes to me. I grab his leash from by the door, hook it on his collar, and then leave. I get in my car and pull out. As I'm driving my phone rings.
G-hello it's Griff
A-Hello Griffin
G-what do you need Mom
A-when you get the chance I need you and your brother to come over.
G-ok. We'll come over for dinner if that's alright
A-that's Fine
I hang up and decide to go to the park instead of the beach. I get out of the car and then grab the leash and Monty gets out. I get to the walking path and we start walking. While we are on the path I spot Joey sitting by himself in a bench. I go over there and sit next to him keeping a hold on the leash.
"Hey Joey you ok" I ask
"Yeah Of course" he says
"What's wrong" I ask
"Nothing" He says
"Joey I have trained on how to read people. I know something is wrong" I say
"Jewel and I were suppose to meet up two hours ago. She hasn't showed up or left a message saying she was going to be late." He says
"Man I'm sorry. But I know she isn't cheating on you. She probably just got held up at work and didn't get the chance to let you know" I say
"I don't know Griff. I have called and texted her and I've gotten nothing. I even called the hospital and they said she left an hour ago" he says
"Joey Jewel isn't one to cheat on someone. She herself has been cheated on. She wouldn't go and cheat on you. She loves you." I say
"I guess you're right. There has to be a good explanation for why she is not here" he says
"Of course. If you want I'll go with you to her apartment and we can check if she's there" I say
"Ok. Who's dog by the way" he asks
"This is Monty. He belongs to Deeks" I say
"Ok" he says
We get up and go to my car. Monty gets in back and I get in the passenger seat letting Joey drive. We arrive to an apartment and get out leaving Monty in the vehicle. We walk up and I spot the door slightly open. I stop Joey and grab my gun from my holster I push the door open and go in. I spot Jewel on the floor unconscious.
"Joey call 911 now" I say
I holster my gun and run to her. I check for a pulse and it's very weak. I start doing CPR. Eventually EMS arrives and takes over. They load her in the ambulance and I tell Joey to go with them. Once he gets in I start looking through the apartment for anything that tells me what happened. I look around and don't find anything. I walk into the bathroom and can't find anything. I look in the trash and find a pill bottle. I grab it and put it in my pocket then leave the apartment locking the door. I get in my car and drive to the hospital. I get there and Joey is sitting in the waiting room. I go over to him and sit next to him.
"You okay Joe" I ask
"Yeah." He says
"Have you heard anything yet" I ask
He shakes his head no.
Just then a doctor comes out and come over to me and Joey.
"How is she" Joey asks standing up
"She is ok. She overdosed so we pumped the stuff out of her blood flow and she is now in a room recovering. You may go and see her" the doctor says
Joey nods and starts heading down the hall once getting the room number. I walk up to the doctor.
"I found this in her bathroom trash can. Is this what she overdosed on" I ask
"Yeah. She said she went to the doctor a couple weeks ago because of migraines so she got prescribed meds. I don't know why she overdosed. I don't think anything really bad happened at work today" he says
"I'll see if I can find out. Thanks doc" I say
He walks away and I walk towards Jewel's room. I get in there and Joey is sitting in a chair by the bed and Jewel is still asleep.
"Hey I have to go out. Callen and I need to go to our moms house for dinner. I'll stop by when it's over" I say
"You don't have to come back" Joey says
"Joey I'm going to come back. See you in about 2 hours" I say
He nods and I leave. I head to my brothers house and knock on the door. Bailey answers it.
"Hey Griff what's up" she asks
"Where's my brother" I ask
"He's watching tv" she says
"May I come in" I ask
"Of course" she says
I walk in and go over to the couch.
"Wow Grisha you're watching tv. You like never do that" I say
"Shut up. What do you want" he asks
"Mom wants us to go to her house for dinner she has to tell us something." I say
"Bailey and I were suppose to go out for dinner" he whines
"Oh my gosh you guys can do it tomorrow night when we're done with work" I say
"Ok" he says
We go out to my car and he grabs the keys from me.
"Um those are mine" I say
"So. It's my turn to drive" he says
"What do you mean" I ask
"You drove this morning" he says
"Fine" I say
We get in and he drives to our moms house. We get there and go inside.
"Mom we're here" Callen calls
No response.
"Mom where are you" I yell
No response.
"I'll check upstairs you check downstairs" I say
He nods and we split up. I go upstairs and look in the rooms. Nothing. I go to her room and open the door. I find her in bed.
"G I found her" I yell
I hear him running up the stairs. We go over to the bed and she seems asleep.
"Mom wake up" I say
"Mom" Callen says
I feel for a pulse and nothing.
"She's dead." I say
"What" he asks
"She's dead Callen." I say
We both leave the room and close the door. We go to the living room and sit down. I grab my phone and call Hetty. I put it on speaker.
H-mr. Granger this better be good
G-moms dead
H-excuse me
C-we got to her house and when we went in we couldn't find her. We then found her in her room with no pulse
H-I will send someone over
G-ok
I hang up and put my phone away. Ten minutes later there's a knock at the door. Callen gets up to go answer it. Once he opens the door he comes and sits back down. People come through and go upstairs. Then Hetty walks in and comes and sits between me and Callen.
"You boys ok" she asks
"Yeah we're fine" I say
"Yeah we're good" Callen says
"Somehow I don't believe you." She says
"We're fine Hetty" I say
She nods and walks upstairs. I get up and leave the house. I go to my car and get in. A minute later Callen gets in the driver seat. He starts the car and pulls out. He drives until we reach a house.
"Whose house is this" I ask
"My Dad's house. He's home but I need to let him know about Mom. You can come in if you want" he says
"Ok" I say
We get out and go up to the house. Callen opens the door and we walk in.
"Hey Dad" Callen calls out
A man comes into the room and hugs Callen.
"Grisha what are you doing here? You aren't suppose to be here until tomorrow." He says
"I know but I need to tell you something" Callen says
"Of course. Come in. We'll all sit in the den" his dad says
We sit down and Callen explains how I'm His half brother and how we found it all out then he says that Mom died.
"When" his dad asks
"This afternoon. Griff and I found her when we went over for dinner" Callen says
"Wow. I'm so sorry both of you" He says
"It's ok" I say
"Yeah Dad we're fine" Grisha says
"Um Callen can you take me to the hospital? I promised Joey I would check in on him and Jewel before the night was over and it's close to when visiting hours are over" I say
"Of course" he says
I go outside and he says goodbye to his dad. He comes outside and gets in. He starts the car and drives to the hospital. We arrive and we both get out. We walk in and walk up to Jewel's room. I knock on the door and Joey lets us in.
"Hey" I say
"Hey" He says
"How is she? Do you know why she overdosed" I ask
"She's okay. She woke up as soon as you left and she just fell back asleep. They're going to keep her for two days but then she can come home. She said she doesn't want to live anymore and that we shouldn't have helped her." Joey says almost in tears
"Hey man it will be okay. You just need to be there for her and stand beside her" I say
"I know." He says
There's a knock on the door and a nurse enters.
"Sorry boys visiting hours are over." She says
"Can you guys give me a ride home? I have to go to the office tomorrow and work on stuff and I don't want to sleep here" Joey says
"Of course" Callen says
We leave the hospital and get in my car. I drive Joey home first and then drive to Callen's place.
"I'll see you at work tomorrow" I say
"Hetty doesn't want us coming in tomorrow" Callen says
"I'll see you at work tomorrow" I say
"See you at work" Callen says
He goes inside and I go home. I go inside and lock the door. I look in the living room and see Nell asleep on the couch with the tv on. I go in and turn the tv off. I then gently pick her up and walk to the bedroom. I lay her down and pull the covers up. I change into my pjs then crawl into bed next to her falling asleep after a long day.
