DOs and DONTs for Judges (Authors and Judges Must Read)

This chapter is for judges as well as participants. The purpose of this chapter is to explain what is expected in your reviews, and participants who feel these guidelines were not matched have a right to request for a review again. Judges are obligated to closely follow our guidelines to ensure a smooth and transparent judging process. These guidelines aren't methods - you're free to choose your criteria and method, but these are some things you must take into consideration and must be reflected in your reviews. Also, in the next chapter, we will post some sample reviews for you to checkout.

First things first - on the 16th, you will be given books to judge and access to our judges/review account. THE BIG CHANGE - This month onwards, the judging will last for 1 MONTH. That's right, you will have MUCH MORE TIME TO JUDGE, SO WE EXPECT THAT LEVEL OF QUALITY, TOO.

Moving on: In the 'reviews' account, you will go to the "write a new book" tab, create a book with your username and start writing your reviews there. Each chapter should have only 1 review. So if you are allotted 7 books, your book should contain at least 7 chapters.

I will list out some important points, instructions, and tips below, read them carefully, and please ask if you do not understand any of them.

Do's and Dont's after login:

DO NOT share the login credentials with anyone, even a fellow judge. We will share it with anyone if necessary.

DO NOT attempt to reset or change the password - we do not wish to see your creative side there, please.

DO NOT ignore our PMs for more than 24 hours. We know you have a life, but we hope you have made the Mystical Fam a part of your life when you enter as a judge.

DO NOT publish anything on the Wattpad judges account you will be given access to, you will only save your work there.

DO NOT forget to take a back up of your work. Remember, data from the account may be lost, and in that case, if you do not have a backup of your reviews, you will have to start all over again!

DO NOT click on or explore books of other judges. You can read those once we publish them, till then, please keep only to your book.

DO NOT use the account as a PM for your chats, we would appreciate the professionalism.

DO use formatting and stuff on your chapters if you want to

DO inform us in case you are having any problems with logging in, editing, etc.

DO inform us if you see any judge accepting a bribe or condoning in any wrongdoing

DO let us know if the author whose book you are reviewing is trying to bribe you or being unnecessarily rude to you. (with proof)

DO take your time with the reviews but be punctual in deadlines

DO interact with readers and writers and connect, we are a community and the community can grow only through connections!

When you start reviewing, DOs, and DONTs for that time:

DO take your time in reading a book. We do not expect you to read the whole book, but read at least 3-5 chapters before jumping to a conclusion. Also, if you feel a particular author needs a lot of improvement, read the latest chapter they have published, and motivate them for their improvement.

DO UPDATE US EVERY 3 DAYS ABOUT THE STATUS OF YOUR REVIEWS, AND UPDATES ON THE ACCOUNT THOSE REVIEWS WHICH YOU HAVE ALREADY DONE (EVERY 3 DAYS). THIS IS NEW AND IMPORTANT. YOU MUST report to our account every 3 days with your progress reports because unfortunately, we've had judges who say nothing, and when the date is due, we realize the judges are ignoring us :( It feels horrible, and now we have to do all reviews of these judges in a day or two (for which we give them weeks! just so we can give the amazing writers their reviews on time) If you have questions about this new rule, don't hesitate to ask us.

DO use tags and formatting as you need for your review book

DO judge the book for everything - cover, title, description of the book, plot originality, theme, character introduction, character development, description of settings, emotional connectivity, and anything else you feel important.

DO write reviews of more than 150 words.

DO NOT exceed the word count of 1000 words/review

DO feel free to write any extra chapter such as a "Thank you" or "Welcome" for participants or simply to share your experiences or give all authors you reviewed common feedback.

DO NOT be harsh in your criticism. Remember, you have to explain their flaws, not just leave it at "You have 10 million flaws"

DO NOT rate books 5.5 stars unless you truly find everything perfect. In every review you mention words like "Perfect", "Flawless", or "Awesome", we expect the star-rating accordingly. There have been cases where just to be nice judges say such words but give a really poor score. So whatever your score - 1 star or 5.5 stars, explain to them why so. Let them know their strengths as well as weaknesses.

DO NOT judge an author by their book or mock them in your reviews. You have no right to, and if we observe you doing this, you may be banned from the awards forever. Also, judging an author by their book is greatly frowned upon by all Mystical Awards admins, so be careful.

DO NOT use foul language or cuss words in your reviews - be truthful but professional and polite.

DO NOT, and I reiterate this, DO NOT FORGET TO BACKUP YOUR REVIEW(S).

DO NOT be biased in your ratings if you are rating a friend. If you cannot help being biased, let us know and we will give your friend's book to another judge. Remember, only unbiased opinions will benefit your friend.

The best part about a review is that an author gets to know where they lack, and a chance to work on it and improve further. This is only possible when you give decent advice. So refrain from using short, opinionated sentences such as "this sucked", or "this was awesome", or my personal favorite - "Good, but could be better" Like seriously, dude, the point of the review is to tell writers WHAT could be better, not THAT it could be better - they already know that.

That will be all. In case of doubts, feel free to drop us a message here or on our accounts.
