Chapter 6
Chapter 6
Two days after the children read that letter, Elizabeth went to see Alice and Mrs. Wharton as well as for dinner. It was spring season and it was time for snow and cold to give way to sun, mild weather, greenery and flowers. Even seeing those dark clouds that were moving so fast did not dissuade her from her decision. Elizabeth saw Alice when she realized that she was not in good condition and went with Isabella to a private room.
Isabella said with sadness, "Alice is very upset. I think we should."
Mrs. Wharton's words were not over yet when Elizabeth said, "I know what you want to say but this is impossible."
"Impossible? Don't you see Alice's condition?"
"I saw her condition but we can't give up."
"Do you mean this work is more important than Alice's health?"
"Alice's health is more important but this work will be over soon. Everything will return to normal soon."
"I want to know if he agrees that Alice suffers so much?"
"He doesn't know anything. You shouldn't tell him anything either."
"Why is doing this ridiculous and ridiculous work so important? I'm telling Alice everything right now; this work is madness."
Elizabeth went to the door to make sure no one was listening to their words then took Mrs. Wharton to a corner and whispered to her, "Isabella, calm down. Have you forgotten that Sophie and George are spying for Jane and Tom Baker?"
"I don't care."
Elizabeth got angry and said, "Isabella, weren't you happy to cooperate with us? What happened now that you call this work ridiculous and ridiculous? If you're not careful, all the work we've done so far will go away. If you're so upset about Alice, I'll calm her down until it's enough to take her to Ramsgate on the pretext of depression; then you know what to do?"
Isabella shook her head and said, "Yes, I have to get rid of George and Sophia for a week."
