Chapter 5
Chapter 5
On Saturday afternoon, when Mr. O'Connor's carriage was speeding towards the ruins outside the city, it could overturn at any moment. The weather was very cold and Mr. John O'Connor tried to sit more compactly, but his face had turned O'Connor red anyway, but this redness was not entirely due to the cold, but rather due to anger. However, he was afraid and worried about something inside. When Mr. entered the ruins, a woman was standing behind him.
Mr. John O'Connor said: "Jane, what are you doing here?"
Jane turned and smiled and said: "John, why are you so surprised? Did you not expect me to take revenge on you and your family for the death and bankruptcy of my father?"
John said: "Jane, how many times do I have to tell you that I did not cause your father's bankruptcy. I did not kill him."
Jane became angry and said: "My mother thought he had killed himself because of bankruptcy when she saw my father was dead. She could not bear it for a moment and died right there. But she did not know that you killed my father and caused his bankruptcy. The creditors seized the house. My brother also became ill and died a few days later due to grief. All these events happened in front of my eyes when I was only fourteen years old, so I want to take revenge on you and your family."
"You can not harm me and my family."
Jane laughed as she walked with Mr. O'Connor in the ruins and said: "Do not be so sure about that. Look at this ruin well because you are going to die in this beautiful place."
John looked around; the ruin did not look beautiful at all. The ruin was a small wooden hut that was located in the middle of a large garden where all the trees were leaning and leafless; when John wanted to enter that ruined hut, his feet sank into the snow up to his ankles; the condition of the ruin was such that some of it had snow on the floor of the hut. John did not think anyone had ever lived there before. Anyway, from John O'Connor's point of view, it was not a suitable place to die; he did not want to die for something he had not done, he had to convince Jane. He said: "Jane listen well, our fathers were partners in a shipbuilding company that suddenly disagreed. And my father left there after a while the company went bankrupt."
"Yes, that's right when the company is in such a situation my father asked for a loan from the bank manager who was one of his close friends to pay off his debt but the bank did not lend him money later I found out that it was you who talked to the bank manager to convince him not to lend money to my father."
"You are wrong I did not do this you know that my father had a disagreement with your father so he had talked to that bank manager not to lend you money. When I found out about this, I went to dissuade him but I failed."
"But I do not believe that your father did this to my family. He was very upset when he realized I was in a bad situation so he accepted me as an adopted child and treated me kindly; did I think wrong about him?"
"No, but when he heard that his action had caused you to lose everything, he suffered from severe remorse and became seriously ill then he decided to accept you as a guardian to make up for it."
"So he just took me as an adopted child to get rid of his remorse and feel pity. This is cruelty cruelty; I can not believe forgiving him is hard work I can not forgive any of you. Even you did not help my father and killed him."
"We were family friends. I was upset when I found out that my father had done such a thing. When I heard that the deadline for your father's settlement with his creditors was Saturday at 12:30, I tried to secretly pay off your father's debts. I was about to succeed in satisfying all his creditors."
when they reached behind a relatively ruined wall, Jane said, "So why did you kill my father?"
John got angry and said, "I was about to succeed when one of the people who worked in your father's company and knew about my work came to me and said that your father intended to commit suicide before meeting his creditors at 12 o'clock and declare bankruptcy. We went there together, we were in the hallway when I heard someone angrily say 'You have to die.' And the sound of a gunshot came."
At that time, they had come out from behind the wall and had moved a little away from it. Jane said, "Who was there?"
Suddenly the sound of a gunshot came and Mr. O'Connor's lifeless body fell to the ground.
Jane turned to the sound and said, "Tom, didn't I tell you not to do anything until I said something?" And she approached him.
"You believed the lies of that liar. You believed the words of that killer. I can't believe he was about to convince you."
Jane laughed and said, "No; now it's Emily O'Connor's turn to suffer." Then she shouted, "Smith, smash his face. George go and tell Emily." And then she said to Tom, "You go, I want to see Emily."
