Chapter 2

Chapter 2

Isabella thought that address was familiar. She remembered that on Sunday when no one from the O'Connor family had come to church, she was worried and went to their house right after church. When she heard the matter from Mrs. Harris, she was very upset. To talk to Emily, she entered the room and saw that Emily was lying on the bed and staring at the door in horror.
Isabella sat on the edge of the bed and said: "Emily, what happened? Why are you so terrified?"
Emily half-sat up and said in a trembling and crying voice: "John has been killed. It was horrible."
Isabella hugged her and said: "Oh my God, I can't believe Mr. O'Connor has been killed."
"I couldn't believe that Jane hated John so much that she killed him."
"Calm down, try to sleep. Maybe something has happened to Mr. O'Connor that he hasn't returned yet."
   "I'm not crazy."
"Darling, I didn't say you went crazy."
   "Then believe me."
"I can't believe that Jane did this. I don't even believe that Mr. O'Connor is dead."
"But George – the coachman – told' me that John had been killed in a ruin.' But I didn't believe him and we went to that ruin together. I saw for myself that John was dead when I got close to him I saw that his face was smashed."
   "It's horrible."
"It was very horrible. Tell me what to do? I'm very worried about Alice."
   "Why?"
"Because Jane wrote a threatening letter and threatened me and Alice with death."
   "Jane has gone mad."
At the same time, Smith entered the room and gave a piece of paper to Emily and then immediately left the room. Isabella tried to calm her down until Emily finally fell asleep. Isabella left the room and walked in the hallway while thinking about these events. As soon as she got away from the room, she suddenly turned back and saw Emily wearing a coat and trying to leave unnoticed from a back door. Then Isabella quickly returned to the same room and picked up the piece of paper that had this address written on it. This was interesting for Isabella, so she immediately decided to go there.
On Sunday afternoon, when Emily had arranged all the threatening letters that she received these days on the table to show them to John, she now looked completely worried and confused unlike a few days ago and walked around the room anxiously. Suddenly George entered the room with panic and said: "Madam, I'm sorry but sir."
Emily shivered and backed away nervously and said: "Is he okay?"
George said: "Madam, I'm sorry but sir is dead, his face, his face." He left his sentence unfinished and after a few minutes without paying attention to Mrs. O'Connor's condition – as if he didn't see her at all – he said: "Mr. O'Connor ordered me to keep the carriage in front of a ruin and not get off the carriage until they came out of the ruin. I didn't even get off when I heard the gunshot, but when a long time passed since they left, I got worried and went inside the ruin. I saw Mr. O'Connor lying on the ground and a lot of blood had come out of him. I was scared, I didn't know what to do, I came here quickly."
Emily fell to the ground while shivering violently and looked at the letters on the table and shouted with a voice that trembled with anger: "You are crazy. You are crazy."
Mrs. Harris, who heard the screams, ran to Mrs. O'Connor and sat next to her. When she saw Emily shivering and crying quietly, she said: "Madam, are you okay? Has something happened?"
   Emily didn't answer.
Mrs. Harris asked George, who was also shocked: "Has something happened?"
George said: "Madam, are you okay? Madam, I'm sorry for Mr. O'Connor's death."
Mrs. Harris looked at Emily's crying face and said softly and surprised: "Mr. O'Connor's death."
Emily said with a trembling voice: "George, take me there."
Mrs. Harris, who tried to calm her down, said: "Mrs. O'Connor, calm down. You are not well. you shouldn't go anywhere."
Emily said angrily: "George, go prepare the carriage." Then she tried to get up and get ready to go but she couldn't keep her balance and finally unsteadily and with difficulty got herself to the carriage.
Mrs. Harris wanted to go back to Alice after this incident when she saw her sitting in the middle of the stairs with sadness.
Alice said: "Mother was very angry, has something happened?"
Mrs. Harris smiled as she went up the stairs and said: "Sweetie, why are you so sad? Nothing has happened." And sat next to Alice on the stairs.
Alice said: "But I'm worried and scared."
Mrs. Harris hugged her and said: "Why are you sad? Don't be afraid of anything."
"But I don't feel good, my parents are worried about something these days but they try to be happy; but I understand. My father also suddenly went somewhere with worry that I don't feel good at all; I'm scared."
Mrs. Harris didn't know what to say to calm Alice down or what to do.
