Chapter 11
Chapter 11
Two days passed and the condition of that strange woman did not change; This had worried Karen and her family.
One morning, when the maid entered the guest room, she wanted to pull the curtains aside to let some light into the room. The rays of light illuminated part of the bed. The maid was cleaning when she suddenly turned around, thinking she heard a faint sound, but then she thought it was her imagination. She approached the bed and bent over the woman and realized that the woman was moaning softly. With great effort and difficulty, she whispered: "Help. Help." Then she ran out of the room to tell everyone that the woman had finally regained consciousness.
The doctor examined her hastily. The woman still could not speak properly and loudly. They had to wait a few hours for her to be able to answer their questions. In the meantime, Karen and Mr. Ellington were worried at the door of the room and Mrs. Ellington sat next to the stranger and took her hand to comfort her.
After a few hours, the doctor came and stood by the bed and examined her again. He said: "Madam, I'm sorry, I have a few questions for you. Please answer them. Madam, what is your name?" He waited a few minutes for the woman to answer, but she did not.
The doctor said anxiously: "Madam, did you hear me? Madam, what is your name?"
The woman kept saying softly: "I don't know. I don't know." But Dr. Gates asked again: "Madam, what is your name?"
The woman shouted this time while crying: "I don't know. I don't know. I don't remember anything, nothing." And she was still restless and crying.
The doctor went out to calm Mrs. Ellington and Karen. About half an hour later, when she could no longer cry and was lost in thought, the doctor returned to the room to open the bandage on her head. Everyone was waiting to see what the poor woman's face looked like. Mrs. Ellington squeezed her hand as the stranger's face gradually appeared. Mrs. Ellington's hands began to tremble. She wanted to say something but no sound came out of her throat.
Mrs. Ellington said softly, getting louder every moment: "Georgiana, you're alive! I knew it." And she stopped.
Mr. Ellington stood next to his wife and calmly said to her: "Katie, can you take a walk with me in the garden?"
Mrs. Ellington got up involuntarily and went with her husband to walk in the garden.
After a short while, Mrs. Ellington finally spoke and said: "I'm so happy that Georgiana has returned after all these years."
Mr. Ellington said sadly: "Georgiana has not returned. The person who is now lying on that bed has amnesia and is not Georgiana."
"But that woman is my daughter, Georgiana, and I know this very well and I'm not crazy."
"That woman just looks like Georgiana."
"The poor thing lying on the bed is not just like Georgiana. She is Georgiana herself."
"But Georgiana died years ago."
"This is not true because her body was never found and I never believed in her death. Now that she has returned to us, you tell me Georgiana is dead."
"That woman has amnesia, please don't impose on her that she is our daughter."
"I'm not imposing anything on my daughter."
"I wish we never came back here. I wish you paid more attention to me and the kids in these years instead of thinking about Georgiana. You've been living like a walking dead all this time."
"Sometimes I think you never loved Georgiana."
