Chapter 4 Fitz POV
Maybe if you paid more attention to him when we were with the Black Swan he wouldn't have left!"
Sophie's words ringed in my head. Anger came first. Why wouldn't she, of all people, tell me? I thought she wanted to be cognates, guess not! She just won't stop keeping secrets! How does she expect me to be her friend?
Then came the guilt. Sophie blames me. She thinks it was my fault. What if it is my fault? My face was draining color as my head hit the ground.
"Fitz, Fitz. We need you. You're family needs you." A soft voice filled my mind.
My name was Fitz.
"Fitz, it's me, Sophie. I'm sorry, I really am. But I really need my cognate back, like right now."
A vague face filled my mind. She had blonde hair in her face. Pretty brown eyes with golden flecks sparkled. A vague memory of two kids training in a room, they were telling each other secrets. One was of a stuffed animal named Mr. Snuggles.
"Fitz, Keefe needs you too!"
I bolted forward. My head hurt really bad. I looked around, and saw Sophie holding her head. Then Biana tackled him onto the ground.
"DON"T YOU EVER DO THAT AGAIN, OR I SWEAR FITZ, I TRAP YOU IN EXILE MYSELF!!!!" Biana screamed as she hugged the oxygen out of me.
"Sophie, wait!" I said as she started running out of the room. I pushed Biana gently off me as I ran to find Sophie.
Grady pointed towards the door which lead to Calla's tree.
"Hey, Fitz, it really wasn't your fault. It's Mr. Sencens, all Mr. Sencens," he said quietly as he slammed his fist onto the table.
I saw her sitting by the tree. She looked really pretty as the wind played with her hair. As I got closer I saw her tear stained face. With a big deep breath I sat down next to her.
"Hey," she said quietly with a strained smile. Her hand went up to dry her face.
"Look, I'm really sorry for yelling at you and for--"
"Fitz you have nothing to be sorry for," Her voice was cold like steel. She had a dark look in her eyes.
"Yes, I do. I was a jerk to you at school! I didn't even stop to call you in order to see if you were ok!" I said, desperate for her to see that I really wasn't perfect.
She let out a cold chuckle, "Does it look like I'm ok? I haven't been good for a long time, there's nothing you can do to change that!"
She didn't look at me again. First Alvar, then Calla, and now Keefe?
"Sophie, it's not your fault at all! You need to know that!" I knew what was behind that look. Guilt. Guilt and depression. The realization knocked the wind out of me. Sophie loves Keefe. I felt like I was being stabbed when she faced me.
"You should probably go check on Biana, she's probably a wreck," Then she turned to face the sun.
A/N: I know, another short chapter! Hoped you guys liked it! I'm going to go to Biana's POV, and then back to Sophie's! ;) Thanks for reading!!
