Chapter 25 Keefe POV
I opened my eyes and groaned. Why did I leave the windows open? The beams of light in my room where blinding. Then it dawned on me. All the good feelings sunk down into my gut to be buried for a long time. Foster was gone. I felt like I was going to vomit. Tears were suddenly cascading down my face. Why do you have to be such a baby Keefe? I thought, anger flooding my cells. None of this was going to fix anything. Now's the time to be strong.
"Keefe, where are you going?" My dad asked, not in a angry way, but in a casual way.
"To talk to Tam," I replied with a small smile on my face, Foster would make such a big deal about this.
"Oh, well be careful and have some fun," He said with a slightly warm smile. The fatherly bonding thing still needed work, but the fact that he at least is trying is lifting my spirits.
Tam and I agreed to meet at the courtyard at Foxfire. Foxfire is over for a few weeks because of all the things going on now. They're going to need some of the teachers help trying to find Sophie and getting the members to talk.
"Keefe! W-w-why on Earth are you here?" Miss. Raven, my Elementalism teacher, asked. I smiled at her face.
"Aw, I couldn't stay away and let you all suffer here without some fun with Keefe!" I answered amused. Her scared expression was plastered all over her face.
"Well, students are supposed to be at home!" She said determined.
"Oh, well, they encourage us to stay at home since there's nothing that they can really do here, but that doesn't mean we can't come anyway!" I said.
"Um, I'm going to talk to magnet Leto about this!" She said triumphantly.
I chuckled and shook my head as continued towards the courtyard. Tam was already there.
"Keefe! Where have you been? This meeting is important! You shouldn't be fooling around!" Tam shouted.
"Tam, look, I was helping a concerned teacher, everything is going to be ok!" I told him like how a parent talks to a little kid.
"Keefe!" He warned.
"Dude, screaming at me isn't going to do anything to help Foster!" I replied.
He was hesitant, "Why are you so calm about this? Don't you care about her?" Tam asked.
My face probably showed pure disgust, "Care about her! Of course I do! Do you know how many times I think about her? Or maybe how many times I blame myself for everything that goes wrong that gets her hurt or kidnapped? Or better yet how many times I wished I was captured instead of her! No, I don't care about her Tam!" I said sarcastically. That shut him up, good.
"Keefe, you shouldn't be blaming yourself for all of that," A very familiar voice said. I turned around and there was Miss. Raven.
"Oh, hi! We were just scheming up pranks, am I right Tammie?" I asked innocently.
"Keefe, I heard the whole conversation, don't lie to me now! When I heard Tam shouting I decided to investigate to make sure you didn't kill him! But now I see what is really going on! Now, Keefe, believe it or not the teachers here actually do care about you. Sometimes there's more that goes on then meets the eye. Now Tam, I'm going to have to confiscate Keefe for a few minutes! Keefe, follow me!" She said as she stalked away. I just looked at Tam, a confused expression on my face.
"Keefe! Don't just stand there! Come on!" She yelled. I ran up to her leaving Tam alone in a courtyard.
We walked down the hallways in silence until we ended up in Elwin's room.
"Elwin, make sure he doesn't ditch class! He has a very important session today! Also tell his father where he is!" Then she turned on her heel and left.
"Bossy, bossy, bossy! These people here think that they can boss pore little guys like me around all the time!" Elwin joked. It made me smile. "So, Keefe, I'm gonna have to ask! What happened to you?"
"Well for starters, Foster is missing again! Fitz is no help, Biana is crying her guts out, and Dex isn't talking to anyone! Oh, and Tam appears to be my only ally, if you don't count all the times he yells at me. Oh, and my dad is trying to act like my mom, so you know, everything is oh so cheery!" I sighed.
"Keefe, they'll find her, but you know what? Most likely she'll find you!" Elwin was trying to reassure me, but the point was only Foster could really do that. I gave him a weak smile just as the door burst open and Tiergan rushed through the door and placed his fingers on my temples, I squeezed my eyes shut.
Tiergan came out of their in five seconds. He most have realized nothing was wrong with me.
"See, I'm fine!" I gave him my smirk for proof. Worry was interlaced on his face.
"Keefe, answer me truthfully!" He shouted.
"What's wrong with me?" I asked panic rising. My heart was hammering in my chest.
"Keefe, just answer me truthfully!" He shouted back.
"I will!" I yelled.
"Did you eat cereal for breakfast?" Elwin asked Tiergan.
"What?" Tiergan asked.
"This is the prank, right?" Elwin asked worry now etched onto his features.
"No, this is serious! Keefe, have you been blaming yourself for everything that happens to Sophie Foster?" He asked I hesitated.
"Keefe, answer the question," Miss. Raven said softly.
"Yes, why?" I whispered.
"Your mind has been slowly breaking since the day Sophie Foster was first kidnapped," He whispered, not meeting my eyes.
