Chapter 18: Shadows in the Night
Author's POV
The cabin was eerily quiet after Jungkook's warning. The only sounds were the faint rustling of leaves outside and the distant hoot of an owl. Y/N couldn't shake the feeling of dread that had taken root in her chest. Jungkook stood near the window, his sharp gaze scanning the darkness outside, his body tense like a predator ready to strike.
"Do you think they'll try to come in?" Y/N asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
Jungkook said nothing at first, jaw clenched as he watched the dimly lit forest. "If they wanted to break in, they would've done it already. Whoever it is... they're playing with us. Testing how far they can push."
Y/N shivered; it wasn't from the cold, but from the weight of his words. "Why us?
He looked up, his face relaxing. "I don't know. But I swear, they're not going to hurt you. I won't let that happen."
The firmness in his voice was comforting, but Y/N couldn't shake the feeling that the walls were closing in on her.

Jungkook's POV
Every instinct in Jungkook's body screamed to act-to chase whoever was out there and end this cat-and-mouse game. But he couldn't leave Y/N alone. Not with the way her hands trembled, despite her brave front.
"Go rest," he said, his voice low but firm.
Y/N shook her head. "I'm not leaving you here by yourself."
A faint smile tugged at his lips, despite the tension in the room. "Stubborn as always."
Look who's talking," she retorted, crossing her arms.
The heaviness left, at least for the moment, as Jungkook allowed himself to take a little relaxation in himself. This moment, however, faded fast as faint tapping noises echoed from the direction of the back door.
He erased his smile. "Stay here."
"Jungkook-"
Please, Y/N," he cut in sharply, showing no room for arguing.
Reluctantly, she nodded as he grabbed the flashlight and went toward the sound. The tapping continued, irregular and faint, like fingers drumming on wood.

Author's POV
Jungkook moved quietly, the wooden floor absorbing the weight of his footsteps. He reached the back door and pressed his ear against it, holding his breath. The tapping stopped.
For a moment, there was only silence. Then, a voice-a low, distorted whisper that sent chills down his spine.
"You can't keep hiding her forever, Jungkook."
He ran along, his heart racing at opening the door, sending a beam of flashlight shining into the darkness. Only there was nothing. And nobody. Just trees swaying slightly in the night gust of wind.
He stepped out into the night, scanning the surroundings, his grip on the flashlight tightening. "Who's there?" he barked, his voice steady despite the adrenaline pumping through him.
No response.
Just as he turned to head back inside, something caught his eye-a piece of paper pinned to the doorframe. He snatched it up, his stomach sinking as he read the words scrawled in red ink.
"The game has only just begun."
---
Y/N's POV
Jungkook returned after a few minutes, his face stern as he raised the note.
"What does it say?" Y/N asked, her voice shaking.
He gave it to her without saying a word, his jaw clenched. As she read the message, she felt a wave of nausea.
"What do they want from us?" she whispered, her voice barely audible.
"I don't know," Jungkook said, combing his hair. "But whatever it is, they won't stop until we uncover it."
Y/N regarded him with fear and determination wrestling for dominance in her gaze. "Then we fight back."
He gazed back at her, astonished at the sharpness to his tone. "Y/N-
"No," she interrupted, standing up. "I'm done being scared, Jungkook. Whoever this is, they think they can toy with us. But we're not just going to sit here and let them win."
For a moment, Jungkook said nothing, simply watching her. Then, a small, proud smile broke through his serious demeanor. "Alright," he said. "We fight back. Together."

Author's POV
As the two of them began discussing their next steps, the figure in the shadows watched from a distance, their sinister smile widening.
"Let's see how far you're willing to go," they murmured, their voice dripping with malice.
The night was far from over, and the game was only beginning to unfold.

To Be Continued.
