'I can only imagine

How it is to be with you.

From the first day I saw your face,

I knew this love was true.'

Jake sings as the others play their instruments. Daisy watches them perform, a smile spreading across her face.

'But you're already taken,

Nothing I can do.

So I can only imagine

How it is to be with you.

I can only imagine us both loving through the night,

I can only imagine us together side by side.

I can only imagine we're dancing in the moonlight,

I can only imagine,

I can only imagine...'

Jake opens his eyes and smiles slightly.

Daisy claps. 'Absolutely wonderful, Jake! Your voice is just as beautiful as I remember!' She says excitedly.

'Oh, uh, thanks Daisy!' Jake says. 'I'm glad that you're here- I mean- that you enjoyed!'

'You all must be so excited for the band competition! You're all so talented!'

'Awe, thanks Daisy!' Hailey smiles, blushing slightly.

'What can I say? It comes naturally to some of us.' Zander smirks.

'Woah!' Milly exclaims. 'I think I just saw your head grow even bigger now!' She grins.

Zander coughs. 'You're one to talk.'

Daisy giggles. 'Well, thank you for letting me listen! I won't interrupt you guys any longer; my parents are waiting to take me to dance rehearsals.'

'You dance?' Sean says, walking up and standing next to Jake. 'Wow, you've really got your plate full, huh?'

'Indeed...' Daisy smiles. 'Well, good luck guys! I'm sorry for interrupting your rehearsal time!'

'N-not at all! Come back anytime!' Jake stutters, grinning nervously.

Daisy walks out of the room.

'That girl really is the epitome of cute.' Hailey grins.

'Yeah...' Jake and Sean say in unison. The others, excluding Milly, look at them in confusion.

Milly laughs. 'I bet you're pleased, Jake. Singing a loooove~ song in front of the girl you're head over heels in love with!' She teases.

Jake turns red, running up and slapping a hand over Milly's mouth. 'You traitor! You promised you wouldn't say anything!' Jake mutters.

Zander chuckles. 'Ohoho, is someone in love?~' He smirks.

'A-NO-'

'YES!' Milly exclaims.

'You're... In love with Daisy?' Sean asks in surprise.

Jake laughs nervously. 'I-I wouldn't say in love, but I have liked her for a long time now...' He smiles at the floor, blushing.

'Awwww, you're blushing!' Milly grins.

'That's very cute.' Hailey says. 'Just don't get too distracted, Jake. I don't want a girl to be the reason you're not performing at your best on the day of the competition.'

'That's not gonna happen!' Jake retorts. Daisy is the real reason I joined the club to begin with!

'Alright then...' Hailey says. 'Well, good work today everyone!' She smiles. 'We'll have rehearsals again at lunchtime tomorrow. And remember Jake, 12:30 on the dot.'

The band goes to collect their things and leave. Jake hears a sigh coming from the corner of the room. He looks over to see Luke, rubbing his arm a little sadly.

He walks over to him. 'Hey er, Luke, are you okay?'

'Oh yeah, I'm fine, thanks.' Luke avoids Jake's look.

It doesn't seem like it... Jake thinks. 'Is something bothering you?' He asks.

'I guess you could say that. Y'know Jake, I'm kind of jealous of you.'

Jake blinks in surprise. 'Huh?! Really? Why?'

'I mean, don't get me wrong, I couldn't be apart from my baby!' He looks over at his drum set. 'But, I wish I could sing like you. Maybe then, I'd find it easier to convey my feelings to the one I love...' He murmurs.

Is Luke in love with someone?! Huh... Jake thinks.

'Oh, well... I'm not sure if it makes it any easier in my experience...' He chuckles nervously. 'But uh, hey! You shouldn't give up hope!' He smiles brightly. 'Why don't you just tell them how you feel instead?'

Luke sighs. 'I'm not sure if that's a good idea...'

All of a sudden the two are interrupted.

'Luke!' Zander calls from the door. 'Hailey's staying behind with Sean for a while to work on technical stuff. I'm going home. You coming with me?'

'Oh, yes, I'm coming!' Luke stutters a little, smiling. 'Ah, well, see you tomorrow Jake!' He smiles nervously, going to get his belongings.

'See ya...' Jake replies. Well... that was surprising. I wonder who Luke could be secretly pining over...

Luke's POV

'So then suddenly, this huge debate erupts about whether I'm gay or European!' Zander exclaims as we walk home through the park. 'Just because of my coiffed and crispy locks, and my immaculate fashion sense. They made an absolute fool of themselves!'

I chuckle. 'Sounds like it.'

'You should've seen the look on their faces when they found out I was both.' Zander continues while smirking, although I'm not really listening.

I don't answer.

Zander looks at me. 'Are... you okay Luke? You've been very quiet.'

I look up at him, snapping back to reality. 'Huh? Oh yeah, I'm fine! Just thinking...'

'About what?'

'Oh uh, you know! The competition and stuff!' I lie, smiling nervously.

'It is getting close now, isn't it?' Zander frowns. 'I just hope everything goes well; I still have nightmares of Jake messing the whole day up.'

I laugh. 'Really? You know that's not gonna happen. He wants the whole competition to go smoothly just as much as all of us.' I smile.

'I know...' Zander says.

'Hey, I'm glad that you gave him a second chance. I think it was really mature of you.' I smile.

I swear I see Zander blush slightly as he stammers, 'w-well, he has proved that he can be a bit more serious than what I first thought. And I couldn't say no to him when he was practically begging for forgiveness like a kicked puppy.'

'Well, you do have a weakness for puppies.' I grin.

We reach a fork in the path. Zander stops walking. 'I guess this is where we go our separate ways now.' He says. He begins to walk down the path in the direction of his house. I search my mind for an excuse for him to stay. I don't want our walk to be over this quickly. Not yet.

'T-the trees, uh-' I exclaim. 'They look pretty, don't they?'

Zander turns around. 'Huh?' He looks up at the trees. 'Oh, yeah.'

'It looks like Autumn has arrived. We should take more hikes in the woods sometime, or even go camping like we used to!' I suggest brightly.

'Ugh, you know I hate camping. Might I remind you of the time that gigantic spider found its way into our tent?' Zander says anxiously.

'It was not giant, Zander.' I smirk. 'And how could I forget? I'm pretty sure you woke up the entire neighbourhood with your screams!' I chuckle.

'You know I have arachnophobia!'

I smile at him. A sudden gust of wind wraps around us. I look over at Zander.

'Oh, you have a leaf in your hair. Let me get it out for you.' I say, walking towards him and reaching out towards the leaf.

Zander pushes me away. 'D-don't get so close!' He says. 'I can get it out myself.' He brushes the leaf away.

'Oh, s-sorry. I didn't mean to make you uncomfortable...' I say, feeling bad.

'It's fine.' Zander says hastily. 'W-well, I'm going this way now. So, see you.' He walks off as I sigh quietly.

'See you tomorrow then...' I watch as he walks down the path. I sigh again and grab my arm.

I say to myself, 'no matter what I do, I just seem to keep pushing him away somehow...'
