Evan waited outside as Evelyn and Jonathan were inside talking to the curator. Evan looked around and let out a sigh, she wants to go back to thrill seeking, she wants to feel the adrenaline coursing her veins. Soon Evelyn and Jonathan came out, Evan walks over to her siblings.
"So what happened?" Evan asked and they walked out of the museum.
"He burned off the part with the lost city." Jonathan said sadly. Evan turned and started to walk back to the Curators office but Evelyn grabbed her arm and pulled her back.
"Pack your bags, we are going to Thebes." Evelyn said and walked away from her siblings.
"You need to tell her that you stole it!" Evan snapped at her brother who looked at her shocked.
"How did you know?" Jonathan asked and Evan glared at him.
"I didn't. You just told me." Evan said and Jonathan muttered something under his breath.
"Lets go." Jonathan said and pulled her arm.
CAIRO PRISON - GALLOWS COURTYARD
Cairo prison. One of the worst hell holes on earth. Every low-life form of scumbag can be found here. The warden, a first rate scumbag himself, escorts Evelyn, Jonathan and Evan across the gallows courtyard.
Evelyn whispers to Jonathan, "You told me you found it on a dig down in Thebes!"
"I was mistaken." Jonathan told her. Evan rolled her eyes. Now that Evan was with her sister, she had to wear skirts.
"You lied to me!" Evelyn scowled.
"He lies to everybody, what makes us so special?" Evan asked as she looks around.
"We're his sisters!" Evelyn said annoyed.
"That just makes you more gullible." Jonathan told Evelyn.
"You stole it from a drunk at the local Casbah?!" Evelyn whispered yelled.
"Picked his pocket, actually." Jonathan corrected.
"Same thing!" Evan said and turned her attention towards the warden. "What is he in prison for?"
"I did not know, so when I heard you were coming, I asked him that myself." The warden said and Evelyn walked besides her sister pulling Jonathan along.
"And what did he say?" Evelyn asked.
"He said... he was just looking for a good time." The warden told her. Evan looked at him in disgust and pulled her sister closer. The interior cell door burst open. O'Connell is in chains, dragged by four guards, they shove him up to the cell bars. From the looks of it, he's been here awhile; his face is half hidden by long hair, a scraggly beard and many new bruises. Evelyn looks at him, disgusted by his appearance. Evan looked at Jonathan with a 'really' look.
"But he's just a filthy criminal?" Evelyn said and Evan glared at her sister.
"Way to go, Evy." Jonathan told his sister. O'Connell gives Evelyn and Evan the once over, then looks at Jonathan.
"Who are the broads?" O'Connell asked.
"Broads?!" Evelyn asked in disbelieve.
"Come up with something more original." Evan spat at him. O'Connell glances at Evan but turns his gaze towards Jonathan.
"They're my sisters, actually." Jonathan said and pulled them both close. Evelyn is stunned and furious. The Warden heads out the door.
"I'll be back in a moment." The warden said and Evan glared at him as he walks away.
"Please, don't come back." Evan muttered under her breath and O'Connell looked at her with interest.
"I tremble in anticipation." O'Connell said sarcastically. A Guard clubs O'Connell across the head, O'Connell's face bounces off the metal bars. He shows no pain, but just looks back and gives the Guard a nasty look. Evelyn and Jonathan push Evan forward making her walk forward.
"We found your puzzle box and came to ask you about it." Evan said as she came close to O'Connell.
"No." O'Connell said shocking Evan and Evelyn.
"No?" Both girls ask as if they had never heard that word.
"No... You came to ask me about Hamunaptra." O'Connell said rolling his eyes. Evelyn and Jonathan quickly look around, hoping the guards didn't hear him. They step closer. Evelyn plays coy.
"How do you know the box pertains to Hamunaptra?" Evelyn asked and Evan looked at her like she had lost her mind.
"It was his box." Evan told her and O'Connell glanced at her but turned back to Evelyn.
"Because that's where I found it. I was there." O'Connell said as it was no big deal. Evelyn is dumbstruck, but Jonathan looks suspicious.
"How do we know that's not a load of pig swallow?" Jonathan asked and O'Connell looks closer at Jonathan, a glint of recognition.
"Hey,... don't I know you?" O'Connell asked. Evan looked at Jonathan with a smirk on her lips.
"Um, well, you see..."O'Connell's fist comes flying through the bars, hits Jonathan square in the jaw, decks him. He hits the floor, out cold. A Guard clubs O'Connell. His head bounces off the bars again. Evelyn ran to aid Jonathan, Evan rolled her eyes and approaches O'Connell.
"You were actually at Hamunaptra?" Evan asked once she was close to O'Connell.
"I just decked your brother." O'Connell said to Evan.
"Yes, I am fully aware of that." Evan shrugged, "usually I am the one punching him." O'Connell almost smiles. There's a bit of spark to this girl.
"Yeah, I was there." O'Connell said to her.
"You swear?" Evan asked making O'Connell smirk.
"Every damn day." O'Connell said. Evelyn helped Jonathan up and looked at O'Connell.
"No, she means.." Evelyn was cut off by O'Connell.
"I know what she mean. I was there, alright. Seti's place. The City Of The Dead." O'Connell said waving his hands.
"What did you find?" Evelyn asked while Evan asked, "What did you see?"
O'Connell looked at Evelyn and said, "I found Sand." He turned and look at Evan, "I saw death." The warden comes back. Evan quickly leans closer to O'Connell.
"Could you tell me how to get there? The exact location?" Evan whispered.
"Want to know?" O'Connell asked and Evan leans even closer.
"Yes." Evan whispered.
"Really want to know?" O'Connell asked and Evan leans her face right up to the bars, annoyed but also excited.
"Yes." Evan whispered. O'Connell leans forward and kisses her full on the lips.
"Then get me the hell out of here!" O'Connell said when he pulled away. Evelyn and Evan are stunned. A Guard clubs him, his face bounces off the bars again, but before he can react the Guards grab him, yanks him away from the bars and drags him out of the room.
"Do it, lady!" O'Connell shouted bringing Evan back to the real world.
"Where are they taking him?" Evan asked.
"To be hanged." Evelyn was still in shock. The warden shows-off his green teeth.
"Apparently, he had a very good time." The warden said.
GALLOWS COURTYARD
Hundreds of filthy prisoners stare down onto the gallows as the hangman's noose is draped over O'Connell's head and cinched tight around his neck. Evelyn and Evan follows the warden onto a balcony above the gallows. The prisoners all go dead quiet at the sight of them; like jackals staring at fresh meat.
"No women allowed." The warden said. Evan pulled out her gun and pointed it at the warden. Evelyn glared at her sister and pushed her hand down.
"We are English women." Evelyn said, this seems to confuse the Warden, he shrugs and sits down. O'Connell looks up as Evelyn and Evan plop down beside the Warden.
"I'll give you one hundred pounds to spare his life." Evelyn said, Evan was staring at O'Connell.
"I would pay one hundred pounds just to see him hang." The warden tells Evelyn, Evan turned slightly.
"Two hundred pounds!" Evelyn said.
"Proceed!" The warden shouted.
"Three hundred pounds!" Evan said out loud. O'Connell can hear every word, he looks hopeful. Other than Evelyn and Evan, you could hear a pin drop. The hangman turns to him.
"Yeah, I'd like ya to let me go." O'Connell said to the hangman.
"Five hundred pounds!" Evan yelled turning to the warden. The filthy warden turned to her and looked at Evelyn.
"And what else?" The warden asked as he sets his greasy, lecherous hand on Evelyn's leg. Evan took out her gun and placed it on the wardens head.
"Remove your hand or you're dead." Evan spat and Evelyn shoved his hand away. Out of anger, the Warden angrily turns and gestures to the Hangman, who pulls the lever. The trapdoor drops away.
"No!" Evan yelled as she leaned against the rail.
O'Connell drops through the hole. The rope pays out. Then jerks taught. O'Connell's body snaps at the end of the rope. Fortunately, he's still alive, because...
"His neck did not break! Good! Now we watch him strangle to death." The warden said. The prisoners go ape-shit, screaming and shouting in anger. The guards look around, nervous. O'Connell struggles at the end of the rope, gagging. Evelyn and Evan look horrified, Evelyn quickly turns to the warden, leans forward and whispers in his ear.
"He knows the location to Hamunaptra." The warden turns to face her.
"You lie!" The warden said.
"I would never!" Evelyn protested. Evan took out her gun ready to shoot the rope. At the end of the rope, O'Connell is choking and gagging and turning several shades of red. The Warden stares at Evelyn.
"Are you saying this filthy godless son of a pig knows where to find The City Of The Dead? Truly?" The warden asked.
"Yes and if you cut him down, we will give you ten percent." Evelyn offered.
Five
"Fifty percent." The warden demanded.
Four
"Twenty." Evelyn offered once more.
Three
"Forty." The warden said. Evelyn hesitates, bites her lip. O'Connell's eyes bulge as he looks up at her, he can't believe this girl.
Two
"Thirty." Evelyn said with determination.
One
"Twenty-five!" The warden said unknowingly bringing the percentage lower. Evelyn grinned and yelled, "deal."
The warden seemed to realize his mistake as he yells in anger. The warden sighs defeated, "cut him down!" He orders.
Shoot
Just as the hangman was about to cut O'Connell lose, Evan pulled the trigger. The bullet cut the rope and O'Connell crashes to the ground. Half dead he rolls over, gagging. All of the prisoners burst into cheers. O'Connell looks up at Evan. She smirks down at him.
"Who needs a knight in shiny armor? Not me." Evan muttered and turned around.
