Chapter 6: Travelling To The Unknown

Sharlotte boarded the pod in which Sanduo and Markus were sitting. The thrusters ignited and they gradually ascended upwards to dock on the underside of the Interstellar Traveller, still in orbit.

As Sanduo headed to the control room, the others followed him behind. Sharlotte was at the middle of the crowd.

"So, you used the 'magic' matter here to teleport your star, right? How can the properties of that matter remain intact after coming here? I mean if the white holes spurt out 'magic' matter then shouldn't we-" Drio was interrupted in the middle by her reply.

"You're right. The properties disintegrate and they change into normal matter shortly over a few hours, so you can't detect it as we can't even observe the edges of the universe yet. As I acted quick, I was able to do the teleportation, otherwise it would have been an 'all for nothing' case."

She clearly knew of the dangers and was definitely skilled to operate on her own in something so dangerous. The fact that she knew so much and the committee she spoke about with a thousand or so members, made the IMG believe that indeed she was worthy to carry out an unimaginable feat like this.

"What is the law for? What you did is noble in every way. Why are they after you like this?" Sierra asked softly.

"Being a living being of this 'verse, I shan't hop 'verses. That's what the law is. That 'verse did not react violently in contact with me, since it was compatible with our universe's matter, apparently. But the Gods would rather kill me and set an example for all to show not to do something like this again, should something catastrophic happen when a different 'verse is encountered. Oh, and my another fault might be using the properties of that 'verse's matter here. Though nothing happened, and I stated to you why," she looked at Drio who nodded, "something could've happened. And that 'something' could've resulted in another big bang, wiping out everything we know."

"Then how the hell did ya take that big a risk?" Markus asked, incredulous.

"I had information that nothing of that sort would happen. It told me almost everything that I told you. Besides, the thousand people I mentioned earlier who know the truth behind black holes, assured me as well. So before even going there, I knew that the matters of both the 'verses were compatible and even that nothing would happen to my body if I go there. I don't want to share all the details right now, but the source is trustworthy."

They all processed everything in their heads. What this girl had just said seemed to give a new leap to their modern day physics.

S.O.H, their transmission specialist robot logged their first mission into the system.

As they took their seats, Sanduo frowned at her with his arms crossed, and said, "Why should we get into all this trouble by saving you? What is so special about you that we have to put our lives in danger?"

"I know something," she said in a pensive manner, her eyes narrowed. "But I can't say anything about it right now. If I do then everything will get shattered. You need to believe me." The shine in her eyes made him remember of his daughter: his only child, who had died fighting in that war on 57OP, his previous home. After that he had left to build the IMG, so that they could stop any heinous acts like that.

He rubbed his eyes at the thought and then said with a heavy voice. "Okay. Tell us where to go."

As she dictated the coordinates, Sanduo entered them in the system and waited for the path to be followed be determined. "The trajectory is ready to be travelled in," a glitchy voice alarmed them. The faint hum of vibrating engines was felt throughout the vessel and the ship shot into the darkness, warping space-time around it in a bubble.

The crew moved into the drawing room area and seated themselves. "So how is our universe connected with our neighbouring one?" Drio asked, excitement clearly making its presence in his voice.

"Remember those images that showed the Multiverse being full of balls that were other 'verses? You can use that analogy. Imagine ours being a ball. The black holes and white holes are the punctures in the membrane. Stretch them out into the neighbouring ball and voila! You made the connections. It's like that. They are interconnected by the black holes and white holes. The singularity lies somewhere midway."

"Is every other 'verse connected in the same way?" Lily asked, her voice sweet with a warm smile on her cheeks.

"No. I only know about these two. No idea about any other," Sharlotte gave a sheepish grin and shrugged. "An interesting fact is that the ball we are talking about is not three-dimensional. Actually all of the accessable universe only constitutes its surface area. So the 2D surface of the ball is not 2D but 3D plus a few hidden dimensions for which the curvature counts. Those hidden dimensions are unlocked by black holes as they are the punctures on the surface of that ball that open to the volume of it within. The black hole is the gateway through other dimensions within our universe that we could otherwise never have had access to. Things get way crazy from thereon.

"Like for example, the black hole extends one region of space-time until it reaches the singularity where the tip of the space-time ceases to exist. That way if you evade the singularity somehow you can either unlock the actual volume of the universe, or if you push through the other side of the universe giving rise to a negative curvature on that side and unlock the space somewhere outside the universe, there you get connected with a white hole and can travel to another 'verse.

"Hawking Radiation can be logically explained by this model as well. The black hole never really gives back what it swallowed. One of the virtual particle pairs at the event horizon is reborn as a real particle when the other falls into the blackhole. That is essentially radiation and the black hole is said to be losing mass. Yet actually, it makes up new matter for the amount it had engulfed already in a very very slow process. Thus the singularity is ever present. Just the pathway to it disappears at some point of time."

Drio marvelled at her words while the others sat dumbfounded.

The galaxies and clusters passed by and Sierra looked through the window away from the others. It was quite a surprise that they had received a mission so early.

Markus dropped in next to her and cracked jokes which lightened her mood. It is always helpful to have a person like that next to you.

After about a minute of silence, Sharlotte said with her face down towards the ground, "I couldn't do everything myself so I called you guys. You just need to help me and I promise that your lives won't be compromised anyhow." The painful smile on her face struck like an arrow in their hearts. She must be going through a lot. No. She is going through a lot. Doing such a thing to save her planet...the thought made each of them trust her even more. They were proud they had met such an incredible lady. A true patriot of Remanisis.

"But how did you know that we were there to help?" Jayden asked after a few moments of silence. "I mean, we literally got our license a few months back!" He chuckled.

"Look I can't tell everything right now. I-it's complicated."

The crew looked at each other in unease but thought better than to force her to answer.

Shortly after, they each parted ways and went into their respective rooms, giving Sharlotte a premium suite which she highly appreciated. After going through so much hassle it was worth taking a break; a break from everything.

She lied down and instantly unconsciousness kicked in her brain. Her hoodie layed by her side and her purple strapless midi dress (which was all she was wearing at that moment) shined in the artificial lighting of the room. A necklace lingered around her neck which had a similar yet darker coloured stone embedded in it. An Amethyst. It was the relic that had been passed on for generations in her family and she was it's present owner; perhaps the last in her family because she had much ado to believe she would survive from the Gods.

She had untied her hair from the bun and her slender hands layed side by side of her body, the right one holding her clip.

_________

Jayden played with Markus, where sensors on his fists directly transmitted the actions he made in the game. "Whoa bro calm down!" Markus cautioned, a smile on his face clearly indicating he was joking.

The robots controlled the flight of the Interstellar Traveller as more and more stellar matter passed by. They were nearing to their location. At least, they had covered a quarter of the distance already. Without any human nearby, they really functioned like robots; doing only that which was instructed or programmed into their systems.

"So how long is the journey going to take anyway?" Drio asked, putting his hand on the chair where Zestor sat. He was another robot of the IMG who was programmed from birth to maneuver ships.

He displayed a smile on his facial display and replied, "Four days. But it would take longer than that as we have to stop at the nearest station to refuel. Our fuel is quite low to traverse the required distance." He rotated his head and continued with the journey.

Drio looked aside to see B.O.5 and B.O.8 playing volleyball at a nearby hall. Their springy hands bouncing as the ball moved from his side to the opposite. He went to the observation room to report to their sir about the time they would take to reach their destination. He then caught up with Josh and Markus and relaxed himself by playing games.

Sierra and Lily spoke about the numerous sales and new items that had hit the galactic markets and planned their shopping dates once this mission was over.

"Our robot team really needs to get an upgrade. We can't fight with evil syndicates with only Droop! He would get overwhelmed," Sierra said putting a candy in her mouth. Jayden had gifted it to her as a congratulation for being able to join the IMG. It's so sweet!

"Yep. His hands can take only so much," Lily said, her eyes dangling on the toffees. Sierra spotted it and she quickly looked away.

Sierra smiled and tossed some in her direction. Lily was about to protest when she stopped her, "It's fine."

The food became ready shortly after and it got served by the multiple hovering robots. Food prepared by robots was laced with perfection. A delightful feast awaited the hungry crowd and the seats quickly filled up. Sharlotte had had a good sleep and was completely refreshed. She let out multiple 'morning yawns' and became ready to have her meal. She hadn't had much in the past week and everyone could understand her delight to dine upon such a lavish main course.

"Thank you so much to you all for taking care of me so nicely! I'm overjoyed to be in your presence!"

The group grinned at her and requested her to start.

She heartily ate her meal and everyone chatted about how they felt getting their first ever mission. The joyful talks lifted the heaviness that had settled on the ship by her explanation of the crime she had committed. The living planet they were observing was listed to be explored just after they had finished their current mission and Markus was quite excited to speak about it to Sharlotte. She listened to him accordingly and replied at times nicely, making him know what she thought of that world to be like. They all continued the chit-chat for another hour before they were alarmed by the robots that it was time for bed.

The robots connected to their charging stations and silence enveloped the ship for the next few hours as the ship continued to move past the solar systems at superluminal speeds.

Sir Sanduo woke up at the next alarm given by B.O.5 and went to meet S.O.H. He recorded a transmission and sent it through S.O.H to the head of the Galactic Patrol. The demolished cities on Remanisis needed assistance to be repaired and the terrified crowd needed to be rescued. His report succinctly put all the required details for the operation.

It was the Galactic Patrol that funded their cause. And they could have no payment unless there was a mission. But now, a mission was attained.

"It will be recieved by them in an hour sir." S.O.H replied.

"Good. It is important that we send help there fast. The admiral would be delighted that we got a mission so quickly." He smiled and left the room, his face sprayed with a look of joy. I feel so nice! We will definitely get more recognition after that encounter. The admiral will be so happy!

The others joined him at breakfast and the IMG and Sharlotte looked forward to their destination timer. Still three days. It'd better be something. I don't want to disappoint the admiral. Thinking that Sir Sanduo ate his meal but maintained a neutral face on the surface. He didn't want to worry the other crewmates. After all it was his headache altogether. He had to impress the admiral. Only by doing that could he make his team stand out. And make it the most famous group, in the galaxy.
