Chapter 58
"I guess it's settled then," Dream's dad concluded, as they left the venue. "This is going to be the place."
"Yeah, I really loved it," Ava agreed. "Don't you think so, Dream?"
"It's really pretty," Dream shrugged. "But I'm not the one getting married."
Ava laughed. "Of course, not yet. But you'll be a bridesmaid so you should still like the place."
"I do like this venue," Dream said. "It's really beautiful."
"Great!" Ava said excitedly, "Now that we have the venue picked out, we can do some more planning. I can't wait to take you dress shopping, Dream. And we also have to invite caterers, oh! And don't forget the cake."
Dream's dad chuckled. "Of course. Red velvet cake?"
"Definitely!" Ava squealed.
"Uh, barf," Dream muttered, leaving to go sit in the car as her dad and Ava finalized a few decisions with the people who worked at the wedding venue.
She was about to reach for the handle of the car door when someone grabbed both of her arms. She gasped, turning around and half expecting Sinclair.
Instead, she saw a man who was the same height as Sinclair, but...
"Wait," she squinted, "Aren't you the guy who works at the lobby of my apartment?"
He didn't say anything, but gripped her arms tighter, his eyes narrowing.
"Let go of me," Dream hissed.
"Give me the tape," he responded icily.
Dream frowned. What tape?
"I said, give me the tape!" he ground out between gritted teeth.
"I have no idea what you're talking about, okay?" Dream spat. "What tape?"
"You know," he said. "Give. It. To. Me."
At this point, Dream was beyond confused. "I don't know about any freaking tape, okay? Just let me go!"
"What is going on here?" Dream's dad demanded.
"Stay out of this, Cadison," the man growled.
"Stay out of this? I don't know who you are or what your business is, but you are harassing my daughter and I demand you to stop. Let her go."
Ava whipped out her phone, recording the whole thing. "Trent, call the police. I'm recording this as evidence."
Upon hearing that, the man immediately fled the scene.
"Dream, are you okay?" her dad immediately said, once the man left. Ava stopped recording.
"Well, I'm fine," Dream frowned in confusion. "That was just weird. He wanted a...a piece of tape or something."
"He was rather harsh for someone wanting you to give him a piece of tape," her dad snarled.
Ava frowned. "No," she said, deep in thought. "I don't think he wanted a piece of tape. Could it be a video tape?"
"A video tape..." Dream hesitated. "I mean, there's a possibility...but there's only really silly and dumb videos in my camera roll."
"Are you sure there's nothing in your phone that he could ever possibly want?" Ava asked.
"I'm pretty positive," Dream nodded. "I have literally nothing that anyone would ever want." Except the information in my brain, she silently added, but saying that out loud would only make her dad more worried, and it was not at all relevant to the conversation anyways.
"Nothing?" her dad growled.
"Dad, I have nothing, okay?"
"I need to make sure. This is outrageous," he spat angrily. "Within days of moving here, you get lost in the woods and rescue an unconscious girl from a river."
"Stream," Dream interrupted.
"Stream, river, I don't care!" her dad exploded. "Then, you get freaking kidnapped, without telling me for a week! Over winter vacation, you run into several near-death experiences, then when you come home, you fall out of your bedroom window which is on the tenth floor, severely injuring yourself. Then, you decide to leave the house without telling me, ditching your wheelchair. And now this. Forgive me for worrying about my freaking kid!" he spat. "This is it. After the wedding. We. Are. Moving."
"Wait, what?!" Dream panicked. "No. No moving. Please," she begged.
"This is not a topic up for debate. That is my final decision."
"Trent, reconsider," Ava said softly, "You have a place to stay right now. Dream has a group of very nice friends. Are you sure you want to uproot her life? Again?"
"I will do what it takes to keep her safe," he turned to her with narrowed eyes, "Whether she is happy or not. Besides, the three of us are all used to moving around frequently."
There was a moment of silence. Ava sighed.
Finally, Dream spoke. "I hate you," she told her dad, "You are the worst parent ever in existence. Sometimes I wish I was never even born!"
With that, she ran off, not even knowing where she was headed.
