02:47 PM. THE DRAGON'S NEST
y/n walks back to the clearing to where everyone was, hand in hand with hiccup. midnight chirps, running at the girl and showing her the flower crown on her head.
"ah, issa gevie!" y/n says, letting go hiccup's hand and petting midnight's face. "gaomagon ao hae ziry? qilōni gōntan ziry syt ao?"
"that would have been me, your highness," charles says, going to bend the knee one again but y/n puts her hand out at him. she looks to him, curiously. he knows high valyrian. hiccup and y/n share a glance before she speaks.
"do not bow," she states. "i do not like it,"
"of course, your highness," he says, bowing his head. why did he still bow his head? hiccup doesn't think charles is any harm. he just thinks that the guy is holding a lot of guilt for what his mother did. and is trying to make up for it. by doing a lot of stuff that y/n isn't exactly comfortable with. hiccup hums. this is not going to end well. there is a twenty percent chance that charles is not going to get stabbed. but there is an eighty percent chance that he will.
"are you alright, dear?" valka asks, tilting her head as she looks at y/n. she watches as hiccup stays close to the girl as he murmurs something to toothless and midnight.
"yes," y/n nods. "i apologise for-"
"you have nothing to be sorry for," valka says, laughing it off. "i was just...i'm in awe. i didn't know i would meet a targaryen while i'm still alive,"
"you need not be in awe. we are not as godly as we seem to be," y/n says, looking over to hiccup. she turns her gaze back towards valka. "what is this place exactly? how did you discover it? how did you find yourself here?"
"i was brought..."
🐉
it's night in berk, approximately twenty years ago. dragons fly all around, searching for food. no matter what or who it is. preferably, they'd like to eat sheep since sheep do not fight back. or fight back well.
"hoist the torches!" a man shouts, the tall torches being raised so that the dragons avoiding them.
"berk was a land of 'kill-or-be-killed'. but...i believed peace was possible,"
"stop! you'll only make it worse," valka stops a man from cutting the neck of a dragon. the man looks at her in distaste, the dragon flying off.
"it was a very unpopular opinion,"
the man gives valka a look before walking off.
"hiccup!" valka shouts as she sees a large dragon tearing the roof from her house.
a dragon approaches the small brunette baby in his cot, oblivious to everything happening around him. all he sees is cool creatures and pretty colours. the dragon looks at him with dilated eyes, cooing softly.
"finding him in the cradle," valka bursts the door open, rushing to grab some sort of weapon. "i rushed to protect him..." but she pauses, seeing how hiccup was giggling with this owl like dragon. the dragon puts a claw out to hiccup, who grabs it, feeling nothing but safety. "but what i saw was proof of everything i believed."
the dragon moves, hearing valka and cuts hiccup's chin, making the baby wail out. the dragons starts to approach valka, the woman raising her sword at it. but the dragon made no sudden moves. and as it tilted its head, it gave valka a crooked smile.
"this wasn't a vicious beast. but an intelligent, gentle creature. whose soul...reflected my own," the two stare face-to-face with one another, valka dropping the sword. she feels no threat.
an axe suddenly thrust between the human and dragon, causing valka to gasp as stoick yells.
"valka, run!" stoick shouts, the dragon spewing fire towards him.
"no, don't!" she pleads to the dragon, pulling on its wing. he stares at her for a moment, making her eyes widen as her breathing quickens.
"hold on!" stoick shouts over the flames, swiftly diving past them and grabbing hiccup before facing the dragon with his axe ready.
"no! help, stoick!" but he was too late. the dragon is carrying the love of his life away.
"valka!" he cries out, watching helplessly as they fly further and further away.
"stoick!"
"valka..." stoick whispers softly in agony, hiccup whimpering softly. he didn't know what was going on. but he knew something bad had just happened.
"him and his father nearly died that night..."
🐉
"all because i couldn't kill a dragon," valka finishes with a sigh, looking down. y/n looks over to hiccup who was frozen as he was listening to the whole thing. that much have been scary to experience, especially as a child. even though he might not have recalled any of it. the scar is still there. y/n kisses it every time they embrace each other.
"if it is any constellation," y/n starts, valka looks up at y/n. "hiccup could not kill a dragon either," hiccup walks over, putting an arm around y/n's waist. she looks at him as he looks at her. "and it is one of most admiring qualities, i think,"
valka watches the two, her heart warming. charles watches them too. he liked hiccup from knowing him for about twenty minutes. but he really wanted to stay on the queen's good side. and he's not even on it yet. how could he make her like him? how could he prove that he's loyal to the one true queen?
"oh hiccup," valka whispers, looking at hiccup in pain. "it broke my heart to stay away...but i believed you would be safer if i did,"
"how did you survive?" hiccup asks.
"oh, cloud jumper never wanted to harm me," valka says as she starts to walk, motioning for the rest to follow. and charles does immediately. "he must have thought i belong here. the home," y/n looks down, seeing a giant white creature. crowned spikes and horns. blue eyes. "of the great bewilderbeast,"
midnight chitters, looking down. did he need so many spikes? gems are better. why did everyone look better than she did? she's still the prettiest dragon...right?
"the alpha species," valka continues, putting her staff on the ground. "one of the very few that still exist," other dragons fly down to the bewilderbeast, bowing at their alpha. "every nest has it's queen, but this is the king of all dragons!" valka chuckles, gesturing around. y/n and hiccup follow with their head to where she points to with her staff. "with his icy breath, this graceful giant built our nest. a safe haven for dragons everywhere,"
"w-wait," hiccup stammers, y/n and him sharing a glance. "that's the ice-spitter? he's responsible for all that destruction?"
charles tilts his head. destruction? what destruction?
behind them, toothless runs around, hanging his tongue out. midnight walks behind him, gracefully.
"he protects us," valka says to the two humans. "we all live under his care, and his command," a group of multi coloured baby nadders flutter over to midnight, making the dark coloured dragon look around. "oh, but the babies, of course," they come closer and closer to her and all she wants to do is cherish each and everyone of them. she chitters at them before cloudjumper roars at them, making them scurry away. "who listen to no one!" the older woman laughs, the baby dragon's landing on the bewilderbeast's face. one lands on close to his mouth, making him blow at them so he can turn and face the newcomers.
he's huge. gigantic. larger than the red death. y/n looks at him in awe as valka and cloudjumper bow in respect. midnight tilts her head, not out of disrespect but in awe just like y/n. she has never seen anyone so big. charles bows his head to the alpha dragon, hiccup looking at the beast with wide eyes and a smile on his face. toothless doesn't bow, simply looking away and lowering slightly. which is kind of a bow but not really.
"i've lived among them for twenty years," valka says, softly. "discovering their secrets,"
the alpha stares at hiccup before focusing on y/n. icy blues eyes meet vibrant violet ones. and their eye contact holds. y/n puts her hand out to the alpha and it bows her head at her. slightly anyway.
hiccup does nothing but smile. that's the love of his life right there. valka looks at y/n in shock as charles nods his head. what was expected? she is the mother of dragons. even if she does not know it herself.
the alpha blows a puff of frost at the two new comers, valka avoiding it but charles doesn't and it gets into his ginger hair. y/n blinks before scrunching up her nose and sneezing. hiccup laughs, bending his head down so y/n can rake her hands through his brown hair to get all the soft snow out.
"he likes you two!" valka grins, as charles rolls his eyes. it took six months for the alpha to get used to him. "you must be hungry," valka as the two as y/n finally gets the last flecks of snow from hiccup's hair.
"i suppose that we are quite famished," y/n says to valka, shaking her head once and getting all the snow out. they haven't ate in a few hours.
"good! it's feeding time," she says, beckoning for the two to follow her.
"uh, your h-highness," charles says, getting y/n's attention. hiccup stops walking after his mother, ready for whatever y/n needed him to do. "if i could have a word?"
"i will be fine," y/n whispers to hiccup. "go with your mother. i will be there shortly," hiccup furrows his eyebrows and kisses the side of y/n's head.
"you call and i'll coming running, you know that right?" hiccup mutters, rubbing her cheek fondly.
"i am aware, my love. do not worry," she says. "go," hiccup nods, looknig at charles before jogging and following his mother. toothless follows his rider but not before chittering over to y/n and midnight. "issi ao jāre naejot umbagon?" midnight chitter to y/n, rubbing her nose against y/n's side. y/n turns to charles who gulps. "what do you wish to talk about, hightower?"
🐉
y/n follows charles who walks her through twists and turns of this ice masterpiece. y/n notices markings in the rocks, but they are not high valyrian.
"in here, your highness," charles says, bowing his head as he motions to a cave. midnight growls, her eyes turning to slits. she does not like this.
"umbagon," y/n whispers. "kesan sagon sȳrī," midnight growls on last time at charles before sitting on her hind paws. "you wish for me to follow you here? you are aware that if something happens to me, my dragon will burn you,"
"i am more than aware, your highness," y/n hums at his statement, walking first into the cave. charles quickly follows behind, not wanting for midnight to take a chunk of out him. y/n puts her hands on the wall of the cave, feeling the coolness of the ice. it is not dark, or cramped. but midnight could not fit in here. possibly a baby dragon. "i wanted to show you this,"
charles walks infront of her, picking up a book from one of the rock's, scattered around this cave clearing. y/n looks around, seeing papers scattered all over the place. sea ridden most of them. others as dry as the sun.
"this is about you," he hands y/n the book, the white haired girl looking at him before looking down at the book.
se muña zaldrīzoti
"the mother of dragons..." y/n mutters, opening the first page. she scans over the page before reading what is written upon it, aloud. this handwriting is familiar. why is it familiar? "on the day of the harshest storm the seven kingdoms has ever seen, the mother of dragons will be born. she will be born of white hair and violet eyes. she will be a true targaryen. she will be able to command all dragons. she is the prince that is promised," the prince that was promised? "and you think that it is me?"
"of course, you highness," charles nods. "you were born in the worst storm the seven kingdoms have ever seen in centuries,"
"so am i a stormborn?" y/n laughs with a chuckle. unbelievable. she can feel midnight getting angsty. "this is nothing but a sailor's tale. and how would you be aware of me being stormborn? i do not recall you being at my birth? i do not recall anything about my birth, how would you?"
"because, if i may speak without consequence," charles starts, waiting for permission. y/n nods, allowing him to continue. "your name day is the [number] of the [month] of [the year] and i am aware of this because it is written here," charles points the a line, y/n scanning over it. it is her name day. that is the date of her birth. "you are born of white hair and violet eyes," she is. "you are both targaryen and velaryon," she is. "and the alpha has bowed to you," he did.
the mother of dragons. that was joke amongst her and hiccup after their first real flight together. she did not think for it to be real.
"and because all of these..." what is the word? "all of these phenomena's that has happened in my life, i am the mother of dragons. say i was to amuse this notion, what is expected of me?"
charles goes to speak, but he doesn't say anything.
"as i thought," y/n puts the book back on the rock, turning back to charles. "i may be the daughter of a queen, but i am not a princess. i am not the prince that was promised. i may be a targaryen and a velaryon, but that does make the mother of dragons. please stop this before you go mad. and stop referring to me as royalty. the house of the targaryen is dead," y/n walks off, turning her back to charles but he speaks, stopping her. her back is facing him as he talks.
"you may not believe in yourself," he starts. "but i believe in you, my queen. you are the mother of dragons and that will be proved to you,"
y/n blinks, walking off and out of the cave. midnight rubs her affectionately before chirping twice.
"daorun, issa daorun," y/n starts, midnight lowering her back and y/n getting on it. "iksan sȳz, ivestragī īlva jikagon se jurnegon syt hiccup se zȳhon muña se toothless,"
