02:47 PM. THE DRAGON'S NEST

"uh, h-hold on!" hiccup stammers, running after his mother. you heard that right. the women who almost killed him is his mother. she was not opting for the dragons to go to y/n but they did and valka is sure it is due to y/n's valyrian blood. "wait just a minute!" y/n groans internally. why is it a dark narrow tunnel? why? what in the seven hells did she to do deserve this?

"this way," valka says softly, jumping on the rocks with ease. like she's been doing this for years. and she has. y/n makes a face, trying to copy her movements. and she is not doing that bad of a job.

midnight follows behind y/n, making sure that the targaryen girl doesn't fall.

"come back here!" hiccup shouts with a sigh as valka easily climbs up the rocks.

"come!" she smiles, gesturing for them to follow.

"you can't just say something like that and run off!" hiccup pants lightly, jumping over the rocks as y/n follows. "you're my mother?" hiccup says in disbelief, shaking his head as they continue. "i mean, what the...you-do you grasp how insane this sounds?"

"come, quickly!"

"may you just hold on for just a moment?" y/n questions, watching her scale a rock wall with ease. "i am not as skilled as i thought i was," she mutters, looking back at midnight.

"i have questions!" hiccup shouts, grunting as he tries climbing the wall, failing every single time. y/n hides a laugh, this is not the time for her to be laughing. well, maybe a small giggle. "where have you been all this time?" toothless rumbles, helping hiccup over the rock wall. the brunette rolls over onto his bum, before standing up. "what have you been doing?"

he looks back, midnight lifting y/n up with her wing. y/n smiles at him, encouraging him to go on. she has midnight, she will be fine.

"they said you were dead!" hiccup continues, shaking his head. "everyone thinks you were eaten by..." a dragon roars as hiccup walks out onto this grassy area. y/n almost hit the back off him, stopping herself just in time.

"seven hells..." she looks around, gasping softly at the sight of thousands of dragons flying around a green scenery, domed in by smooth cold ice. it is like a dragon haven. it is beautiful. baby gronckles played with one another nearby as they walked into the wide space. midnight sniffs the ground, looking around with perked ears. hiccup jumps, y/n ready for anything but she calms down as she realises that it was just a dragon swooping in front of them, so it can join the other dragons in the cool air.

toothless shakes his head with a soft rumble, hiccup looking up as he sees valka above with the same large dragon from before.

"this is where you've been for twenty years?" hiccup breathes out, looking around. valka nods shyly, looking at hiccup. "you-you've been rescuing them," she nods again, y/n smiling as she puts a hand on hiccup's arm. "unbelievable,"

"you're not upset?" a male dragon scoots over to midnight, the valyrian dragon giving it a glance. it scoots over again, toothless growling at it. it scurries off, both the dark coloured dragons looking at each other. that dragon is not even good enough for her.

"what? no. i-i don't know," hiccup stammers, rubbing his neck. "it-it's a bit much to get my head around, to be frank. it's not every day you find out your mother is some kind of crazy, feral, vigilante dragon lady,"

valka laughs softly, using her staff as her dragon gently lowers her. she is so graceful. does y/n get a staff too? no...targaryen's are known for swords, not staffs.

"but at least, i'm not boring," she lands on the ground, looking at hiccup. "right?"

"i suppose there is..." a dragon starts to nudge him, smelling something new. "that one specific thing" hiccup mumbles, gently rubbing the neck of a dragon. another red dragon, smaller than most, sits on y/n's head, making her laugh. hiccup looks over to her, and it takes him back to five years ago. wow. they have been through a lot together.

"do you like it?"

"i don't have the words," hiccup says, still looking at y/n. the smaller dragons starts licking her face, making midnight roar at it. what is with all these annoying dragons? can they leave? there aren't even any flowers here?

valka looks over to her son's gaze, seeing y/n.

"hello," valka says to the girl.

"hello," y/n says back. she fiddles with her rings, other dragons walking closer to y/n. "i am terribly sorry for threatening you...twice. and turning your dragons against you. i would have never even thought of doing it if i was aware of the circumstances of that you are his-" a dragon nudges her side, y/n petting it on the forehead. "rytsas. iksā gevie," y/n turns back to valka, who's watching her with interest. "his mother,"

"i'm not going to fault you for protecting my son," valka says with a smile. "you are a targaryen, yes?"

"that i am," y/n says with a nod. midnight chitter, growling at the other dragons as she stands behind y/n. "this is midnight, my dragon,"

"aw, she is beautiful," valka says, putting her hand out for midnight to smell. midnight puts her nose forward, smelling hiccup from her. midnight chitters, her silver eyes watching valka. "may i?"

"if she will let you," y/n says. valka comes closer to midnight, but valyrian dragon watching valka with a curious gaze. valka goes to touch her but midnight growls. "konir sagon hiccup's muña. gaomā daor jaelagon syt zirȳla naejot renigon ao?"

midnight shakes her head, y/n looking over valka.

"she does not wished to be touch," y/n says. "it does take a more than a singular moment for her to-"

"valka! valka!" y/n, midnight, hiccup and toothless turn to this new voice. valka makes a face. this won't be good. possibly. "are you back? i..." standing before them, a ginger male dressed in green. both midnight and y/n tilt their heads as they look at him then realise the symbol on the coat, he is wearing.

"targaryen/hightower," they both say at the same time. hiccup looks between the two. he's read about this. he's read about how alicent hightower went against m/n targaryen for the throne of the seven kingdoms. alicent was fighting for children who were m/n's siblings, m/n was fighting for her birth right.

y/n's [strong] hand itches to get her sword but then the unbelievable happens.

"your highness," he bends the knee, y/n looking at him with wide eyes. "i knew you had survived. i knew it. i spoke to the seven gods every day, i-"

"you are aware of me?" y/n asks, cutting him off. is this a trick? some type of ploy? "how?"

"dragons still live," the hightower says, not daring to look his queen in the eye. she is the rightful queen of the seven kingdoms. whatever nonsense his mother put in his brain has left now. "all dragons would die if the mother of dragons had not lived on,"

"your name," it is not a question. it is a demand.

"charles hightower, your majesty,"

"do not...do not call me that," y/n says, charles looking up at her. her violet eyes meet his emerald green ones. "i am no royalty here,"

"but you are!" charles says. "with your permission, i will show you how i know that,"

y/n's mouth goes dry. she does not know how to feel about this. she looks to hiccup for help and he gives her an encouraging smile. hiccup knows that she wants to know what the hightower has. even though she will never admit it.

"you have my permission," the ginger gets up, scurries off before coming back and bowing to y/n before he leaves again. she fiddles with her rings, hiccup holding her hands. "may i ask you a question?" she turns to valka who nods. "how long have you known the hightower for?"

"a year," she admits. "one of the dragons picked up his scent and lead me straight to him,"

"and i am..." y/n bites her tongue. he does done nothing to her. but his family has done everything to hers. "under the assumption that it was at kings landing?"

"no, far from there," valka says, putting her hand under her chin. "it was around a broken castle though,"

y/n hums, charles running back and getting on his knee again.

"you may rise," y/n says. "you need not bow at me,"

"it is mandatory to bow to royalty," charles says. "your highness," he reveals a crown to y/n, y/n's eyes watering. that's her mother crown. y/n holds it in her hands, tracing over the patterns. she recognises these patterns, they're on one of her dresses.

"where did you get this?" y/n mutters, the crown feeling heavy in her hands. "this is belongs to my mother,"

"when i was at kings landing, it was there," charles says. "and it does not belong to the late queen, your highness, it belongs to you,"

it belongs to her.

"please, excuse me," y/n says, walking off quickly. to where? she doesn't know. just away from this.
