authors pov

10:40 AM. THE SEA

toothless and midnight speed over the great blue ocean, side by side. the water follows their command, separating slightly as they fly over it. 

hiccup, who's wearing his mask, holds the reign of toothless, toothless tilting down so he can fly beside the water dragons who are leaping from the sea, just as dolphins would. 

y/n narrows her violet eyes, midnight flying to the wing of the water dragon. the targaryen laughs, midnight chittering in response. y/n gets up from midnight, running onto the wing of the water based beast, making it all the way before jumping back onto midnight's back at the last second, not falling into the water. 

hiccup looks back at her, smiling under his mask. she is so amazing. he quickly sits up on toothless, hoking his prosthetic foot into place and switching gears as toothless spirals, flying under one of the water dragon wings. 

"yeah!" he cheers, making y/n laugh. the two dark coloured dragons fly up, through the clouds, midnight letting out a cheerful screech. 

"let the wind carry us to clouds, hurry up, alright!" the dragons twist and turn in sync through the clouds, not grazing a single one. "we can travel so far, as our eyes can see!" y/n coos at midnight, the female dragon tilting her head back, allowing for them to dive towards the sea. toothless follows, hiccup holding onto the restraints. "we go where no one goes," the dragons twist back up into the sky, spinning at a high speed that it could have many anyone dizzy. but not these two. not with the amount of times that they have been on dragon back.

toothless opens his eyes, letting out a happy roar as they fall back into the clouds. midnight relishes, feeling the cloud skins her gems and scales. y/n and hiccup look at each other, their hearts syncing. 

"we slow for no one," their dragons twist in the sky, flying back up and over the clouds. "get out of our way!" hiccup raises his arms, stretching them outwards, imagining that he's flying. 

y/n's long white hair battles the wind as she looks over to hiccup. her pupils dilate, that's the man she has fallen in love with. timberjack's fly above them, partly blocking out the sun. 

hiccups hums, pulling his handle towards the saddle.

"so, what do you think, guys?" his voice, muffled, coming from his black mask. "you want to give this another shot?"

midnight lets out a whine of annoyance as toothless instantly perks up, grumbling. well, that's a no. 

"absolutely not," y/n says, leaving no room for argument. it has failed too many times before. there should be a line. 

"aw, beautiful, come on," hiccup says, trying to sweet talk her into saying yes. "please? it'll be fine!"

"i still do not think of it being wise," y/n says, toothless and midnight agreeing with her as they roar. "and our dragons agree with me. as they should, as this is not safe for a viking,"

"it'll be fine! trust me! i've got this!" hiccup waves his hand, dismissively.

"i do not remember you 'getting this'," she uses her finger as quote marks, looking at him. "the last time we took a trial in this. you fell-" hiccup unhooks himself, setting toothless' fin in place. "se issa daor listening naejot nyke," y/n huffs, biting her tongue. "lo ziry gets ōdrikagon, zālagon zirȳla," y/n whispers to midnight, the dragon letting out a rumbling laugh. 

"ready?" hiccup questions, making toothless rumble with a huff. midnight critters, y/n shaking her head. he's so so stubborn. it's endearing. hiccup winks at her, the targaryen girl rolling her eyes even though what he did, made her heartbeat increase. closing his eyes, hiccup allows himself to slip off toothless. he yells, falling through the air as toothless dives straight after him. 

boys will be boys.

"yeah!" y/n shakes her head, midnight diving after them both. the two males spiral each other as y/n watches them. hiccup yelps in joy, looking at toothless. "yeah!" toothless sticks his tongue out, offering him a gummy smile. 

the two stop spiralling as hiccup hooks his hands through the leather gears, and opening his winged suit at the same time that toothless opens his wings. the wind pulls them both up, steadying them out as hiccup yells in joy. 

y/n braces for midnight to do the same, causing the valyrian dragon to glide beside the two males. then midnight changes her mind, opting to fly underneath the males, just in case. hiccup opens his back fin, gliding in front of toothless. 

he tilts his head down, seeing y/n looking up at him. she looks so ethereal in the sun. golden flecks glint through her violet eyes as she tilts her head. oh thor. 

"i told you i'd be fine," he says with a cheeky grin. and y/n can hear it. she shakes her head with a laugh. 

"i would not say that just yet, my love," she says, standing up on midnight's back and touching his mask. "focus. and do not get hurt," she quickly sits back down on midnight, midnight dropping down before flying above toothless. 

what she does to him. hiccup shakes his head, trying to focus on his flying as he looks back at toothless who tilts his head at him. hiccup cheers, flying over some clouds. 

toothless blasts a fireball below hiccup, making him yelp in surprise as the heat from the blast catches in the wings of the suit, causing it to lift him up higher. y/n laughs as midnight chitter in glee, doing the same as toothless just did. hiccup rises once again with a cheer. 

"this is amazing!" midnight's arrows narrow, seeing the outlines of the multiple rock pillars. hiccup spots them too, y/n's eyes going wide. "no longer amazing! toothless!"

"hiccup!" y/n shouts, midnight firing a blast at the rocks as y/n jumps from her, reaching hiccup. the two pull each other close, toothless screeching as he is unable to move fast to reach the both of them. 

toothless reaches them at the last second, pulling them close into him as the night fury crashes through some trees, rolling down a small hill and landing on his side. midnight flies down, looking for her best friends.
