03:27 PM. BERK, THE ISLE OF BERK

y/n closes her eyes as she engulfs herself under water. the long white dress she's wearing clings to her body like second skin. she's not at the pond near the clearing. she's in a water spring. which, thankfully, has a cave near by so she can dry and dress herself. 

midnight and the night fury should be sleeping. not that they are mighty tired creatures but more like they are overgrown house cats. 

y/n needs to get some food for midnight as well. midnight doesn't like fish. she's too dainty for that. the night fury will eat anything, however. y/n cannot tell if that is something she should be concerned with that just yet though. 

she peeks her nose above the water, rubbing her eyelids. 

she looks at the sun in the sky, it telling how much of the day she has left. she sighs, wiping the water away from her face. 

time to get out.

she walks, following the marks she made in high valyrian so she cannot get lost. she hears a twig snap, making her bring out her dagger as a reflex. it was forged with midnight's heat and scales and valerian metal. 

she puts her hood up, hiding her white hair before behind a tree. she turns her head, seeing the brown haired boy. what is he doing? and why is he holding a shield?

"if you feel unsafe in these woods, why come at all?" y/n says, scaring hiccup and making him drop the shield. y/n hasn't noticed the bag he's wearing on his back. she takes her hood off, revealing her white [hair type] hair.

"i...uh..." hiccup starts, picking up the shield again. it's really heavy. "i wanted...i wanted to talk to you,"

"if you wish to have a conversation with me, why have you brought a shield?" she questions, putting her dagger back in her boots. "i do you fear i will hurt you?"

"no, it's for..." hiccup looses his voice. would be offensive if he says it's for the dragons? would she kill him?

"ah," y/n hums, walking over to him. "you fear for your life because of the two dragons in the clearing,"

hiccup chuckles nervously, looking away from her gaze. 

"well, if you wish to converse with me," she starts. "you will come with me to find some food,"

"i bought you food!" hiccup suddenly exclaims. "in my bag..." he shows her the bag he's wearing. 

"i do not mean for me," y/n smiles unsurely. "i mean for my dragon,"

"i brought fish?"

"midnight does not have the taste for fish," y/n says, clasping her hands behind her back. "she prefers meat,"

"i...i don't have meat," hiccup mutters. 

"that is why we will go and fetch some," y/n says, walking forward and deeper into the forest. "come along,"

hiccup stammers, looking back to the route of the clearing and then to the targaryen that is walking away from him. 

he quickly follows after her, after a moment. she walks fast. 

"uh, i'm hiccup," he says, meeting her strides with a struggle. y/n looks at him, holding back a laugh. 

"i am aware of who you are," she says to him, slowing her steps to they can walk at the same pace. "son of the chief,"

"oh," hiccup blushes in embarrassment. 

"i am y/n," y/n says, looking around for a wild goat or a wild boar. "y/n targaryen, the last of her kind,"

hiccup watches as she sighs softly after saying it. he won't ask her what happened. but he does want to keep this conversation going. 

"how do you do it?"

"how do i do what?"

"tame the dragons," hiccup says, stopping when she does. a wild boar, right in front of them. 

"i am under the assumption that it has something to do my blood," y/n starts. "however, it could just be that i am a targaryen and we have always been close to dragons. we are dragons so we must be them or be close to them," she never did understand that translation. hiccup looks at her. "do you have any rope that i could use?"

"uh..." hiccup rummages through the woven backpack, there being some rope. "here,"

"i thank you kindly," y/n says, taking it from him. their hands touch slightly, no reaction from both of them. no reaction yet. "i ask you to stay hidden. i fear you may distract me if you try to help,"

"right, yup-i-i can stay here," hiccup nods, standing as stuff as a tree trunk. y/n looks at him and blinks with her violet eyes, putting her hood back up. she takes a few calculated steps to capture the boar. she won't kill it. no, midnight prefers them being live animals. y/n thinks it is midnight showing y/n that she is not an overgrown cat. but don't overgrown cats play with live mice?

they've been walking back in silence. not entirely uncomfortable. not but entirely comfortable either. the wild boar has been trailing behind them, y/n holding the rope tightly in her hands.  

she walks past to rocks, dragging the boar infront of her. 

"midnight, māzigon naejot nyke," she says, midnight cooing as she flies right infront of y/n. y/n puts her forehead against midnight's before looking back at hiccup who gulps. "good luck with the night fury," midnight nudges y/n with her snout, jumping up and down, pleading with whines for y/n to say the word. y/n motions for midnight to get further away from hiccup. the boar snorts as y/n ties to another rock. "dracarys,"

midnight screeches in joy, setting the boar on fire and happily eating it. y/n turns her face away, allowing hiccup to look a her side profile. she is beautiful. 

he shakes his head with a sigh. the night fury. that's his focus. 

he slowly enters the clearing, keeping the shield up. he throws, quite weakly i will add, a dead fish. hiccup looks around, y/n and midnight away from him now. no sign of the night fury. he goes to walk forward but the shield, it gets stuck, wedged between two rocks. hiccup grunts softly, trying to remove it but it doesn't budge. he sighs, going under it. he tries again to move it, but it still doesn't move. surprise, surprise. 

he sighs again, picking up the fish with two hands. he threads softly onto the grass, looking around. he doesn't notice the night fury on the perch above him. the night fury's shoulder blades shift as he moves forward slightly, watching the boy with curiosity. 

hiccup jumps with a gasp, hearing some pebble fall. y/n watches, putting her hand on midnight's head. midnight chitters, her silver eyes watching intensely. she wants to know how this goes too. is the skinny human going to die? hiccup turns, his heartbeat speeding up as he watches the night fury climb down on the ledge. the night fury sniffs the air, looking at hiccup with a tilted head and a low growl.  

hiccup watches the dragon for a moment before offering up the dead fish. y/n lets out a small laugh. the night fury's eyes start to dilate as he walks towards hiccup slowly with a rumble from its throat. the night fury pauses, eyes turning into slits as he notices the smell of metal. not valerian metal. cheap viking metal.

hiccup gasps, holding the fish to his chest with his left hand as he slowly reaching for the knife. he jumps as the night fury growls, making him gulp as he slowly takes it out and drops it. 

the night fury jerks his head to the side, y/n watching in amusement as hiccup scoops the knife up with his foot and tosses into the lake. gone for ever. 

the night fury perks up, his eyes dilating as he looks at hiccup expectantly, his ear's twitching. 

hiccup slowly offers the fish again, the night fury walking closer and closer to him. the night fury opens his mouth, revealing a pink gummy cavern. 

"huh...toothless," hiccup comments, noticing. "i could have sworn you had-" 

fangs appear in the night fury's mouth as it snatching the fish out of hiccup's hands, making hiccup gasp and jolt away as he quickly devours it. 

"teeth..."

the night fury licks it's lips before pausing. it's eyes slight again, approaching hiccup with a small low rumble. 

"ah...no, no, no," hiccup stammers as he backs away from the night fury, tripping and his back ending up against a boulder. "i-i don't have any more!"

the night fury continues to look at him with narrowed eyes before starting to gag. he regurgitates a fish onto the hiccup's lap. 

hiccup groans in disgust, the night fury sitting on his hind legs watching him.

"nyke pendagon ēza suffered enough sir," y/n whispers to midnight, walking over to hiccup. her steps swift but strong. ready for any type of attack. "he would like for you to eat it," she says to hiccup, her hands behind her back. 

"what?! that's disgusting! why would i-"

"you do not reject a gift from a dragon," y/n says, cutting him off. hiccup looks at y/n before looking down at the fish in his hands. he groans, looking back up at the night fury. the night fury looks between hiccup and the fish. 

hiccup reluctantly bring the fish up to his mouth before taking a bite of the slimy uncooked animal. he pretends to hum in thanks, making the night fury perk up. hiccup nods, offer the fish back, but the night fury gulps noticing that hiccup hasn't swallowed. 

"you do not reject a gift from a dragon," y/n states once again, midnight wondering over to them. y/n smiles at her dragon, looking for some flowers to put on her. 

hiccup grunts, forcing the fish down his throat as he shudders and gags. the night fury licks his lips, hiccup giving the night fury a smile. the night fury narrows its eyes at hiccup, before trying to mimic the smile. it's an adorable gummy smile, making hiccup look at the dragon in awe. hiccup reaches up, the night fury narrowing its eyes once again, hissing and baring its teeth as it swiftly flies off, roaring as it lands. 

"did you enjoy the fish?" y/n asks, standing infront of hiccup with small bouquet of flowers in her hand. 

"yeah, it was the best thing i have ever had," hiccup lies as y/n helps him up. "uh, what are the flowers for?"

"they are for midnight," y/n says, allowing hiccup to follow to the other side of the clearing. midnight's there, playing with toothless. y/n places the flowers in a circle, midnight lying on the all with a rumble. "she has the taste for them,"

"she eats flowers?!"

"no," y/n says, looking at hiccup. "she enjoys them. like anyone would. they are flowers. they are beautiful,"

"yeah, i guess they are," hiccup nods in agreement. so many questions to ask her. but all of those questions could be insensitive. and the last thing he wants to do is make her angry. "um..."

"why are you here?" y/n asks, the question being in her brain for the last two days. "do you plan to tell your father that we are here so that he can come and kill us?"

"no, no, no, no," hiccup stammers. "i don't want to kill anybody. i...i just wanted to learn why the night fury didn't kill me. or why you didn't,"

"i do not kill," y/n says. "i do not have the stomach for it," y/n pauses, trying to find the right words to use. "you will be able to discover why the night fury didn't kill you. i am certain of it," hiccup looks at her with a smile. "you can figure it out right now, if you please to do so," midnight walks over to y/n, pushing into her side. the princess is looking for attention, once again. she does this most days. "ōregon va," y/n laughs, trying to hold midnight from pushing her into hiccup. "i suggest it,"

hiccup turns, seeing the night fury using his fire to create a heated bed. the night fury rests on it, snuggling into the warmth before hearing a bird tweet above it. the night fury watches as it flies up, longing for the same freedom. as it's head turns, he spots hiccup sitting next to him. 

hiccup waves casually, making the night fury's ears pin back and release an annoyed expression. he snorts turning around, moving his tail to cover his face. hiccup slowly scoots towards the night fury, reaching out for the tail before smoothly reaching to his feet as the night fury moves its tail to inspect what hiccup is doing. 

the night fury huffs, trying to find a place where he can sleep without being disturbed.
