Chapter Twenty-Four: Days In Color// Ten O'clock Ice-Cream
I took one last picture of my setup and flopped down, setting my camera in my lap. My phone buzzed in my jeans and I yelped when I felt the tickle against my thigh.
Hey. Come down to that bench in the park again.
I blinked. It wasn't even nighttime yet.
Uh, K. Why, what's the big deal?
Nothing. Just, whenever you're free. I'm bored.
I smiled and started wrapping up my things. As I put my setup back into a box to carry back inside the house, I tried to map the quickest way to get to the park. Maybe grab some change and arrive with a couple ice-cream cones too.
*****
"Aye, I'm here."
I nudged his shoulder, putting an ice-cream bar in his hand. "Sorry. They didn't have anymore cones. So I got these instead."
He smiled, nodding his thanks. "You didn't have to, you know."
"'Bout time I make it up to you." I shrugged and sat across from him. "Aye, you look terrible, Lyon. What's wrong?"
His hair stuck up in different directions and he sighed as he reached under his glasses to rub his eye with the heel of his hand. "Nothing. I just get stressed easily. Haven't been sleeping well."
"Well it's not like going home at two in the morning is helping any. You should really just go to sleep instead."
"No!"
I blinked, leaning back in my seat and he laughed quietly.
"I mean, no. Don't worry about that. You have work before that anyway. It's no big deal."
I snickered. "Pssh. I know you're desperate to meet me. I would be too, since I'm so fabulous." I stuck my tongue out at him.
He rolled his eyes. "As if."
I laughed. "Are you saying I'm not? Jerk."
He made a face at me and I picked up my camera, snapping another picture.
Clicking the shutter, I frowned. "I swear, I'm gonna run out of space on this and it's gonna be your fault."
"What? Mine?" He gaped at me. "I didn't tell you to use it all up."
I shrugged. "Meh. Still your fault. Who else's would it be? Mine?" I swatted the air. "Pssh."
"Uh...yes?"
I ignored him, scrolling through my pictures. I needed to remember to back up these pictures before I ran out of space completely. Or buy more film for my other camera, once I get my paycheck for the week.
