Y/N's P.O.V.
Classes in May were boring as usual.
Professor Sprout had too much energy, especially since "It's herb season!" and the class would be spending more time outside of the greenhouse.
Flitwick's classes were fine, interesting enough to stay awake, just not enough to do extra research.
Snape was Snape. No more explanation required.
The quartet was exiting Transfiguration (Y/N had transfigured Ron's hair into - harmless - snakes. Professor McGonagall had to beg Y/N to change it back) when Harry got called back after class.
When Ron raised his brows at Harry, the raven-haired boy shrugged, hugged Y/N and said, "Meet you in the common room."
The others nodded and left, trekking the stories of the castle to Gryffindor Tower. Before starting on their homework, the three of them ascended to their respective dorms to change into something more comfortable.
It was late may, now, and the weather was getting much warmer. After quite a bit of rummaging (Hermione was already dressed in a black tanktop and grey trousers, and becoming rather annoyed), Y/N decided on clothes. Just simple black shorts and a army green oversized tee-shirt.
The two girls grabbed their bookbags which contained their homework and made it down to the common room. Ron wasn't there yet, so they decided on a place to sit - two loveseats in the corner, away from the numerous other students lounging in the room.
When Y/N tried to sit down next to Hermione, the girl laughed, "Trouble, sit on the other one - I'm sure Harry will want to sit with you."
Y/N glared at Hermione, "You just want to sit with your precious Ronnie-boo-bear-"
Hermione flushed, "I told you not to call him that!"
"Why, Herms?" Y/N grinned, plopping down on the brown loveseat across from Hermione, "Reserved for you, is it?"
Before she could answer, Harry came through the Portrait Hole and made a beeline straight for Y/N's loveseat. Upon arrival, he basically threw himself at her, his face set in exhaustion.
Y/N didn't let him get too close, before jabbing him in the chest and scrunching up her nose. "Go change out of your school robes, those are unclean."
"Godric, Silv, I'm going," Harry grumbled, trudging towards the staircase and gloomily looking back at her. Y/N stuck out her tongue.
"Check up on Ronnie while you're up there, he's been gone for a while," Y/N called. She then turned to Hermione, and the two girls began on Charms homework as they waited for the boys to come back to the common room.
It was five minutes later, when Harry and Ron returned. Ron was in a deep burgundy shirt and some jeans. Harry was dressed in black joggers and an army green tee-shirt...
"Copycat," Y/N teased as Harry sat down next to her, pulling out his own homework.
He gave her innocent eyes, "It was simply a coincidence. I didn't even know you were wearing green and black."
Ron snorted very loudly, "Would be believable if your eyes weren't glued to her all the time," he said, still chortling as the two went red, and Hermione let out a laugh from beside the ginger.
"Oh, by the way," Harry said, as though nothing happened. When Y/N let out a little hum, he sat closer and Y/N knew he wasn't going to get any homework done. "I have to be at the Quidditch Pitch at nine, Bagman's gonna tell the champions about the last task."
"Say hi to Ced for me," Y/N said simply, turning a page in the textbook.
She'd hung out with Cedric, Liana and Mathew yesterday - and surprisingly, Dean. He'd always told her that Cedric made him nervous, since he was older, but Dean actually got along really well with all of them.
He and Cedric shared a love for Quidditch.
He and Liana talked about romance novels (Y/N was also very invested in this conversation).
He and Mathew bonded over their love of drawing, and had showed each other drawings of their partners. Dean showed Mathew his charcoal sketches of Seamus (Y/N was squealing the whole time), and Mathew proudly displayed his portfolio of Liana.
Mathew was becoming so much more open about their relationship! It was adorable.
Liana's reaction was a bunch of blush, and just hiding her face in her hands. She was still more reserved about it, but from what Y/N could tell, she loved it.
"Do you know when you'll be back?" Hermione asked.
"Yeah, Ill say hullo t' Cedric," Harry mumbled, his face in Y/N's shoulder - because he was totally doing homework. "And I dunno. Whenever we're allowed to come back."
A dark expression overtook Ron's face, "Just don't turn your back on any of the others," he said lowly. "I bet they're all on edge because it's the last task - might take out a competitor early, if you know what I mean...of course, not Cedric..." he added the last bit after seeing the look on Y/N's face.
Harry nodded absently and kicked his bookbag aside, propping his legs up on the couch with his head in Y/N's lap. She sighed heavily (but was secretly enjoying it) and threaded one hand through his hair messy, black hair while the other continued writing.
The quartet did homework - Y/N tried to convince Harry to do his - until dinner, after which they returned to the common room and played Exploding Snap with Fred and George. Elijah would usually be in Gryffindor Tower (everyone was used to it by now), but was nowhere to be seen. Y/N decided that maybe it wasn't such a bad thing...especially because her and Harry were still pretty new to this and jealousy was already a problem with the boy.
If Fred and George noticed anything...off...about the affection between Harry and Y/N, they didn't say anything or point it out. In fact, the only time they mentioned Harry and Y/N together in a sentence was, "Ah! We have our first losers - Harry and Y/N!"
At half past eight, Harry got up from the couch, kissed Y/N on the temple. She pulled him down by the neck of his shirt, and planted a soft kiss right on his lips.
Harry froze, and this caused Fred and George to let out loud laughs, making Harry snap back to reality. He blushed, shook his head and glared at the twins, then announced to the others that he was leaving for the Quidditch Pitch.
Ron narrowed his eyes at Harry, but gruffly said goodbye.
"Do tell us what the task is!" Hermione called to him.
Harry nodded and warmly returned Y/N's smile just as the portrait hole snapped shut.
✦
When Harry returned to the common room, he looked slightly distressed. Mostly everyone had gone up to bed, but Y/N, Hermione and Ron waited for him.
Harry came and sat down, almost dazed, and grabbed Y/N's hand. "Last task is a maze. Cup's in the center - first champion to reach it wins," he said blandly, "but listen-"
He told them about how he and Viktor Krum stumbled upon Mister Crouch at the edge of the Forbidden Forest, and how he babbled about betrayal, Voldemort gaining power, and insisted on speaking to Dumbledore. Harry instructed Viktor to stay with Crouch while Harry ran to Dumbledore's office - he was interrupted by Snape, and ultimately when they returned, Crouch was gone and Krum was passed out (by a stunning spell) on the forest floor. Moody showed up and Harry had to leave with Hagrid so the "adults could take care of it."
"It comes down to this," said Hermione, rubbing her forehead. "Either Mister Crouch attacked Viktor, or somebody else attacked both of them when Viktor wasn't looking."
"It must've been Crouch," said Ron at once. "That's why he was gone when Harry and Dumbledore got there. He'd done a runner."
"It's odd, though. He was fine the last time we saw him...," Y/N mused, letting Harry lean onto her.
Harry pulled Y/N into his side. "He seemed really weak - I don't reckon he was up to Disapparating or anything," said Harry.
"You can't Disapparate on the Hogwarts grounds, haven't I told you enough times?" said Hermione exasperatedly, which made Y/N giggle as Harry huffed down at her and poked her in the sides.
"Okay...how's this for a theory," said Ron excitedly, and Y/N inwardly rolled her eyes. "Krum attacked Crouch - no, wait for it - and then Stunned himself!"
"And Mister Crouch evaporated, did he?" said Hermione coldly as Y/N let a light laugh slip - Hermione glared at her.
"Oh yeah..."
They talked late into the night about what could have happened. Y/N missed out on much of the conversation with short naps, as she had already had a tiring day.
Well, tiring and flustering - all because of Harry.
It was surprising, really, how he needed her at all times. In class? His chair would be positioned barely an inch apart from hers. In the hallway? Holding hands, always. During mealtimes? One hand on her bare knee - rubbing small circles and patterns, fixing her skirt when it rode up too high (Y/N obviously wore shorts underneath).
Harry could be so confident, flirting, smirking, physical contact...but the second Y/N returned it, he would be a flustered mess. She could tell him, "You're attractive," (something she told him on the regular) and he'd melt. Y/N could kiss him, and he'd turn into a puddle of gooey mush, blush and all.
Now, she was laying practically on top of Harry, but he didn't seem to mind - absently stroking her hair, or holding her hand, or his arms around her waist. Every once in a while, he'd lean down and place a kiss on Y/N's temple, causing her to smile against his chest.
During the times she was awake, well, Ron's theories were just getting more and more out of hand...
"No - no! Crouch was never there to begin with!" Ron had said in a whisper-yell, throwing his arms in the air like he had accomplished something.
"I literally held his limping body up, Ron," Harry had replied, "I'm preeetttyyy sure he was there."
"...Crouch and Krum had a duel! And then Crouch hit Krum, right? With the stunning spell, but at the same time, Krum hit him with an invisibility spell too!"
"Ah," Y/N said sarcastically. "That solves everything. I'm sure he also hit him with a speech deteriorating spell, as Crouch couldn't cry for help once he saw people return."
Ron was silent for a moment, then a gleam overtook his eyes.
"Then it was a kidnapping-!"
"Ronald, no."
This kept on until daybreak, and Y/N was sure that at some point, the quartet had fallen asleep in a big pile (they'd all migrated to the same couch so their whispers could be heard) - cuddle puddle!
Once they woke up and rid themselves of their sleepiness, Harry hastily scribbled a letter to Sirius and the quartet was off to the Owlery to send it off...well...
It took ten minutes of persuading to get Y/N off of the couch.
"I would genuinely rather choke on my necklace than get off this couch," Y/N said shortly, closing her eyes and laying on her back, fiddling with her Herms and Trouble necklace.
"Or you could not do that," said Hermione.
At the same time, Ron said, "Go for it!"
Rolling his eyes dramatically, Harry shoved the rolled up parchment into Ron's house, then walked over to Y/N and looked down at her form on the couch. "Alright, up you get, Silv," Harry said, then bent down and hooked one arm under Y/N's knees, and one around her shoulders. He scooped her up as she protested, but in reality, she was exceedingly flustered.
She was not, in fact, hiding her face because it was, "too bright!"
More like bright red.
When Harry set Y/N down just outside the portrait hole, Hermione was giggling uncontrollably, and Ron was stifling his laughs - because he couldn't let Harry think that he was okay with this, even though he was.
"Thanks, Goldie," Y/N mumbled.
"Couldn't hear ya," Harry said with a grin. "Speak louder?"
Y/N narrowed her eyes at him, and Harry's smirk just widened. "It is too early to deal with you. I'm leaving. I'm going to the Owlery."
"Trouble...we're all going to the Owlery..."
"Yeah, and I'm gonna push Harry off of it..." Y/N muttered to herself.
She did not, in fact, push anyone off. Instead, they boringly sent the note to Sirius, and were now looking through the archways into the misty grounds of Hogwarts, just being graced by the morning dew.
It didn't do much for their tiredness, though, as all four of them were puffy-eyed and pale because they had been talking late into the night about Mister Crouch.
Harry stood with an arm around Y/N's waist - when she wrapped her arm around his waist, Harry looked down at her questioningly, but she gave him a smile and he decided not to ask, but to revel in the affection.
"Just go through it again, Harry," said Hermione from beside Y/N. "What did Mr. Crouch actually say?"
"I've told you, he wasn't making much sense," said Harry. "He said he wanted to warn Dumbledore about something. He kept saying stuff was his fault....He mentioned his son."
"Well, that was his fault," said Y/N fairly.
"He was out of his mind," said Harry. "Half the time he seemed to think his wife and son were still alive, and he kept talking to Percy about work and giving him instructions."
"And...remind me what he said about You-Know-Who?" said Ron tentatively.
"I've told you," Harry repeated dully. "He said he's getting stronger."
There was a pause, during which Y/N squeezed his waist to comfort him.
Then Ron said in a falsely confident voice, "But he was out of his mind, like you said, so half of it was probably just raving..."
"He was sanest when he was trying to talk about Voldemort," said Harry, and Ron winced at the sound of the name. "He was having real trouble stringing two words together, but that was when he seemed to know where he was, and know what he wanted to do. He just kept saying he had to see Dumbledore."
"If Snape hadn't held me up," Harry said bitterly, "we might've got there in time. 'The headmaster is busy, Potter...what's this rubbish, Potter?' Why couldn't he have just got out of the way?"
"Maybe he didn't want you to get there!" said Ron quickly. "Maybe - hang on - how fast d'you reckon he could've gotten down to the forest? D'you reckon he could've beaten you and Dumbledore there?"
"Not unless he can turn himself into a bat or something," said Harry.
"Wouldn't put it past him," Y/N muttered and Harry mocked her, but affectionately.
"We need to see Professor Moody," said Hermione. "We need to find out whether he found Mr. Crouch."
"If he had the Marauder's Map on him, it would've been easy," said Harry, while Y/N shook her head - Harry shouldn't have given that...odd...professor the map in the first place. Plus, now she couldn't use it to pull (harmless) pranks on unsuspecting people.
There was always next year...
"Unless Crouch was already outside the grounds," said Ron, "because it only shows up to the boundaries, doesn't -"
"Shh!" said Hermione suddenly.
Somebody was climbing the steps up to the Owlery. Y/N could hear two very familiar voices arguing, coming closer and closer.
"- that's blackmail, that is, we could get into a lot of trouble for that -"
"- we've tried being polite; it's time to play dirty, like him. He wouldn't like the Ministry of Magic knowing what he did -"
"I'm telling you, if you put that in writing, it's blackmail!"
"Yeah, and you won't be complaining if we get a nice fat payoff, will you?"
What were the twins up to this time...?
The Owlery door banged open. Fred and George came over the threshold, then froze at the sight of Y/N Harry, Ron, and Hermione.
Their eyes narrowed in on Y/N and Harry...arms around each other's waists. If they were angry, they didn't express it.
"What're you doing here?" Ron and Fred said at the same time.
"Sending a letter," said Harry and George in unison.
"What, at this time?" said Hermione and Fred.
"Stop fucking doing that!" said Y/N and George.
She scowled when he laughed.
Fred grinned. "Fine - we won't ask you what you're doing, if you don't ask us," he said. He was holding a sealed envelope in his hands. Y/N glanced at it, but Fred, whether accidentally or on purpose, shifted his hand so that the name on it was covered.
Y/N gasped very loudly and pointed a finger at the twins, a mockingly appalled expression painting her face. "What, you're hiding things from me now?"
"What you don't know won't hurt you, little sis," George said simply, shooting her a smile.
"Well, don't let us hold you up," Fred said, making a mock bow and pointing at the door.
Ron didn't move. "Who're you blackmailing?" he said. Hermione sighed and Y/N knew that she knew that this was going nowhere.
The grin vanished from Fred's face. Y/N saw George half glance at Fred, before smiling at Ron. "Don't be stupid, I was only joking," he said easily.
"Didn't sound like that," said Ron.
Fred and George looked at each other. Then Fred said abruptly, "I've told you before, Ron, keep your nose out if you like it the shape it is. Can't see why you would, but -"
"It's my business if you're blackmailing someone," said Ron. "George's right, you could end up in serious trouble for that."
"Told you, I was joking," said George. He walked over to Fred, pulled the letter out of his hands, and began attaching it to the leg of the nearest barn owl.
Y/N frowned at him - that didn't sound much like a joke... she was starting to think that something was wrong. Fred and George were never this stressed about anything, even grades.
"You're starting to sound a bit like our dear older brother, you are, Ron. Carry on like this and you'll be made a prefect."
"No, I won't!" said Ron hotly.
George carried the barn owl over to the window and it took off. Then he turned around and grinned at Ron. "Well, stop telling people what to do then. See you later." He and Fred left the Owlery.
Y/N, Harry, Ron, and Hermione stared at one another, then back at the door of the Owlery where the twin's had just exited.
Y/N looked to each of her friends - Hermione frowned, Ron rolled his eyes and Harry shrugged - all of them were so utterly confused.

The following week, the quarter decided on going to...Professor Moody, about the Crouch situation. Despite Y/N and Harry's (especially Y/N's) wariness, they knew he was an experienced Auror and could probably assist them.
When the bell finally rang, they hurried out of History of Magic class and into the corridors toward the Dark Arts classroom and found Professor Moody leaving it. He looked as tired as they felt. The eyelid of his normal eye was drooping, giving his face an even more lopsided appearance than usual.
"Professor Moody?" Harry called as they made their way toward him through the crowd.
"Hello, Potter," growled Moody. His magical eye followed a couple of passing first years, who sped up, looking nervous; it rolled into the back of Moody's head and watched them around the corner before he spoke again. He then turned his head to the others. "Sterling, Granger, Weasley," he greeted with a jerk of his head.
What a creep...why you lookin' at kids?
"Come in here."
Personally, Y/N didn't want to, but the other's were already moving...so...
He stood back to let them into his empty classroom, limped in after them, and closed the door. Moody's eyes fell on Y/N, and he looked at her peculiarly...she felt unease squirm in her stomach.
"Did you find him?" Harry asked without preamble. "Mister Crouch?"
"No," said Moody. He moved over to his desk, sat down, stretched out his wooden leg with a slight groan, and pulled out his hip flask.
"Did you use the map?" Harry said.
"Of course," said Moody, taking a swig from his flask. "Took a leaf out of your book, Potter. Summoned it from my office into the forest. He wasn't anywhere on there."
"So he did Disapparate?" said Ron.
Y/N chuckled, waiting for Hermione's - "You can't Disapparate on the grounds, Ron!" said Hermione. "There are other ways he could have disappeared, aren't there, Professor?"
Moody's magical eye quivered as it rested on Hermione. "You're another one who might think about a career as an Auror," he told her. "Mind works the right way, Granger." Hermione flushed pink with pleasure.
"Well, he wasn't invisible," said Harry. "The map shows invisible people. He must've left the grounds, then."
Y/N cut in, "But how could he have left?" she asked. "From Harry is describing, he was delirious, and muttering like a madman. He could barely stand. He wouldn't be able to go anywhere without a calming potion, preferably with level three...or higher....potency...and a great deal of rest."
Moody locked his gaze with the girl, and Y/N felt her skin crawl as his mechanical eye washed over her. He gave her a grin - well, she supposed it was a grin, because the marring of his face shifted slightly. "And you, with your Auror friend..." he jerked a thumb at Hermione, "what're you thinking about doing after Hogwarts."
"I dunno yet," Y/N answered slowly, and Moody nodded curtly.
It was true. Y/N didn't exactly know what kind of job she wanted, but she knew she wanted to help people. But Moody was already off-putting, and Y/N didn't need to share any more with the odd man.
"Someone...could've pulled Crouch onto a broom and flown off with him, couldn't they?" offered Ron quickly, looking hopefully at Moody as if he too wanted to be told he had the makings of an Auror.
"We can't rule out kidnap," growled Moody.
"So," said Ron, "d'you reckon he's somewhere in Hogsmeade?"
"Could be anywhere," said Moody, shaking his head. "Only thing we know for sure is that he's not here." He yawned widely, so that his scars stretched, and his lopsided mouth revealed a number of missing teeth. Then he said, "Now, Dumbledore's told me you four fancy yourselves as investigators, but there's nothing you can do for Crouch. The Ministry'll be looking for him now, Dumbledore's notified them. Potter, you just keep your mind on the third task."
"What?" said Harry. "Oh yeah..."
Gauging from his reaction, Y/N knew he hadn't given the maze a single thought since he'd left it with Krum the previous night.
"Should be right up your street, this one," said Moody, looking up at Harry and scratching his scarred and stubbly chin. "From what Dumbledore's said, you've managed to get through stuff like this plenty of times. Broke your way through a series of obstacles guarding the Sorcerer's Stone in your first year, didn't you?"
"We helped," Ron said quickly. "Me and Hermione and Y/N helped."
Moody grinned. "Well, help him practice for this one, and I'll be very surprised if he doesn't win," said Moody. "In the meantime...constant vigilance, Potter. Constant vigilance."
The four of them were quiet as Harry nodded, and they turned to exit the classroom. Y/N felt an uncomfortable crawling of her skin again, and reached for Harry's hand. He interlocked their fingers and sent her a soft smile.
Just as they were about to step out of the door, Moody said, "You, Sterling - keep an eye on Potter. Seem like the best fit for the job."
Y/N just nodded, not wanting to speak to him anymore. They entered the hallway, and Harry brought their linked hands to his lips, leaving a soft kiss on the back of her hand. She smiled at him and squeezed, hoping it was enough to convey her silent thanks as the four of them walked back to Gryffindor Tower.
✦
Sirius sent an owl back the very next morning.
The quartet had been sitting at the Gryffindor table. Ron and Hermione were bickering like usual, only making a truce to scold Y/N and Harry for being disgusting, then returning to their stupid little quarrels.
In truth, they weren't being that disgusting. It was just holding hands. In fact, Y/N was over the moon - ever since their not-so-little argument, she missed the familiar clang of their bracelets.
Her Flos Lunaris clad one, and his...Harry and Y/N bracelet. She was right to get him that for Christmas in third year.
Y/N was absent mindedly clinking the metal of their bracelets together, reveling in the tiny sound. She was pulled out of her haze when a graceful owl swooped in front of her.
It fluttered down beside Harry at the same moment that a tawny owl landed in front of Hermione, clutching a copy of the Daily Prophet in its beak. Hermione took the newspaper, scanned the first few pages, said, "Ha! She hasn't got wind of Crouch!" then joined Y/N, Ron and Harry in reading what Sirius had to say on the mysterious events of the night before last.
"Harry - what do you think you are playing at, walking off into the forest with Viktor Krum? I want you to swear, by return owl, that you are not going to go walking with anyone else at night. There is somebody highly dangerous at Hogwarts.
It is clear to me that they wanted to stop Crouch from seeing Dumbledore and you were probably feet away from them in the dark. You could have been killed. Your name didn't get into the Goblet of Fire by accident. If someone's trying to attack you, they're on their last chance.
Stay close to Y/N, Ron and Hermione, do not leave Gryffindor Tower after hours, and arm yourself for the third task.
Practice Stunning and Disarming. A few hexes wouldn't go amiss either. There's nothing you can do about Crouch. Keep your head down and look after yourself. I'm waiting for your letter giving me your word you won't stray out-of-bounds again.
Sirius"
"He's right," said Y/N immediately, but at the same time, Harry was already speaking.
"Who's he, to lecture me about being out-of-bounds?" said Harry in mild indignation as he folded up Sirius's letter and put it inside his robes. "After all the stuff he did at school!"
"There wasn't a raving lunatic who put his name in a death tournament when he was at school!" Y/N said sharply, and Ron nodded, worried gaze on Harry.
"He's worried about you!" said Hermione quickly. "Just like Moody and Hagrid! So listen to them!"
"No one's tried to attack me all year," said Harry. "No one's done anything to me at all -"
"Except put your name in the Goblet of Fire," said Hermione. "And they must've done that for a reason, Harry. Snuffles is right. Maybe they've been biding their time. Maybe this is the task they're going to get you."
"Look," said Harry impatiently, "let's say Sirius is right, and someone Stunned Krum to kidnap Crouch. Well, they would've been in the trees near us, wouldn't they? But they waited till I was out of the way until they acted, didn't they? So it doesn't look like I'm their target, does it?"
"They couldn't have made it look like an accident if they'd murdered you in the forest!" said Y/N. "But if you die during a task -"
"They didn't care about attacking Krum, did they?" said Harry. "Why didn't they just polish me off at the same time? They could've made it look like Krum and I had a duel or something."
"Harry, we don't understand it either," said Hermione desperately. "I just know there are a lot of odd things going on, and I don't like it...Moody's right - Sirius is right - you've got to get in training for the third task, straight away. And you make sure you writeback to Sirius and promise him you're not going to go sneaking off alone again."
Harry's hand stiffened in Y/N's, and she gave him a soft downturn of her lips. He just shook his head.
Ron sighed. "Mate, it's not ideal. But c'mon, Sirius is worried. We're all worried. Just stay safe - please?"
Hermione and Y/N nodded, and when Harry finally huffed out in agreement, Y/N gave him a kiss on the the cheek, and watched as his skin dimpled. He smiled a little bit, so Y/N took that as a win.
Now he just had to win the tournament. And then everything would calm down. He just needed to win - no problem, right?
✦•······················•✦•······················•✦
Y/N was lounging with Fred, George, Lee and Elijah beside the statue of Selene in the Moonlight, with soft music playing on a Record Player in the background.
The group had seemingly claimed this as their spot - with a great statue looking down upon them with eyes of carved obsidian and an expression of determination and anger. So, so, so much anger.
Enough anger to curse a girl generations down the Lupin family line.
Enough anger to curse a girl to be like Selene.
Enough anger to curse Y/N.
Every time Y/N looked at the extravagant marble fixture of the woman, she swore she could see herself. It was...odd. The curve of Selene's frown, the build of her hands. The way she gripped the knife as Y/N gripped her wand. The way her eyes, though carved, could convey so much emotion, even without the glow.
Before, when she didn't know who Selene was, it was just a statute, but now...
Now, it may have answers.
The mirror Selene held was the same. It currently sat on Y/N's bedside - she was sure of it, looking closer. She didn't know what to do about it. If she told Remus, he'd confiscate it and she'd never get answers about why it cracked and showed the words..."Your Own Hostiles" like that day in Ottery St. Catchpole.
It didn't make any sense. The first inscription was on a book, then at the base of this very statue, then in Selene's mirror. Y/N could understand how the statue and mirror were connected by Selene, but what about the book?
Your Own Hostiles...
And her odd powers. Manipulation of the knights, glowing eyes, affinity for metal. But it wasn't even all metals. It was so very strange.
The knife in Selene's hand had been lost to time, Remus had said. Gone, as far as they knew. The journal, too - Remus didn't know where it was. It's last few pages were scribed in the blood of Selene, by Lykos. The man who killed her just for power, yet never got it, as he had lost her love
Y/N could only wonder where those ancient, sacred objects were now...
"Y/N?" Fred snapped his fingers in front of her face. "We've been trying to get your attention for the past minute."
"Hi, yes, that's me," Y/N said, wrenching her gaze away from the statue and realizing the music had paused.
Lee chuckled, then Elijah lowered the needle back onto the vinyl, the ring on his finger pulsing from red to orange, and the music struck up again.
The curtains are closed and the theatre's in darkness
I look around, all the memories are haunted
Every day I thought you were too good,
That you understood
But I guess I was wrong, 'bout you and 'bout her
Perfect pair, right, it's what you deserve
Y/N sighed, then swished her wand and shut the music down. It was taking over her thoughts, and as much as she liked Silverspell, she needed a blank canvas of a mind right now.
Elijah raised his eyebrows. "Something on your mind?"
See, it wasn't so awkward anymore. Of course they stayed friends - it would have been too odd not to. Elijah understood about Harry, and they had gotten over it. It's what good friends did - he wasn't flirty anymore, just friendly. Y/N appreciated that.
Elijah had informed Y/N that he still liked her very much, but wouldn't allow it to stand in between their friendship. And yeah, that made sense. It was only human nature to harbor feelings, but she was glad Elijah didn't show them.
"Oh," said Y/N. "Um, nothing. You can continue the song if you want."
George chuckled, "If we want? It's you who put us on Silverspell. Forever grateful, you know."
With a small smile, an almost-smirk, Y/N laughed, "Yeah, yeah. Just turn it back on. I love Haunted."
Lee obliged, reaching across Elijah to the Record Player. Y/N, initially, had no idea where they had obtained it, since they never went into the Record Store in Hogsmeade. Then, she spotted the Property of Remus J. Lupin on the side, and had scolded them for ten minutes. They confessed that they'd stolen it in third year, because it looked cool.
"It wasn't so cool when he was convinced I messed with it and he made me buy a new one!" Y/N had told them, but they just laughed.
"They record is yours, by the way," George had snickered.
"Nicked it last week," Elijah added.
"Been listening to it in the boys' dorm," said Lee.
"Personally, Mateo's backup vocals are better than Wisteria's," Fred offered.
Y/N's jaw dropped. "I was wondering where my Alone Together vinyl had gone. You're all so fucking annoying!"
And to think I'd been so blind
I would've wasted years standing at your side
But you'd always be ahead, wouldn't you?
I'm front seat for your new personality's debut
You told me I was all you ever wanted
Lights, camera, action
This story is haunted
It was a catchy song, lovely range of vocals. To be fair, Y/N was biased since this was her favorite band, but...if they were good enough to be at the Yule Ball, she supposed that she could impose her music taste onto the friend group.
She had all of their albums on vinyl, and all of the Weird Sisters albums too. A new Silverspell album was coming out soon, but the band refused to drop the name. Y/N had decided she'd ask Remus to get it for her birthday, then she could ask her friends for r elated merchandise like posters and such.
Lee and Elijah were in the middle of an arm wrestle, and Fred and George were whispering quietly to each other.
To be completely fair, Y/N didn't know why they were sitting in this hallway...cross legged in a circle, like some sort of cult.
Then she saw the glint in Fred and George's eyes. They turned to Lee - he nodded. They turned to Elijah - he nodded.
They turned to Y/N - she sighed very loudly, very dramatically, and rolled her eyes.
"What kind of prank are you brewing up this time?"
