Part 18: The Walk
In the morning, everyone was awake at dawn. Rabbitmoon was really excited to talk with Blazekit about Scarlet's tactic.
"Hey, Rosestar," He began to his mate, "can I take Blazekit on a walk?"
Rosestar looked at Rabbitmoon suspiciously. "Yes, but be careful." She finally said.
Rabbitmoon smiled. "Let's go, Blazekit."
"Huh?" Blazekit answered, looking around trying to identify the voice. "Uh, sure, um..."
"Rabbitmoon, your dad," finished Rabbitmoon to his son.
"Ohhhh, dad. Um, where are we going?" Blazekit asked. Rabbitmoon's heart started to break. His poor kit was staring at a rock instead of his father.
"Um, Blazekit, turn around."
Blazekit turned to face his father. "I'm sorry, Rabbitmoon." He said, ashamed. He looked at his paws, and shuffled them around. He sniffed. He looked up at Rabbitmoin with tears streaming from his green, milky eyes.
"I hate being blind!" He raged, "I wish one of my siblings was blind instead of me! Because I'm blind, the others treat me differently! I'm... I'm a freak!"
As soon as he finished talking, Blazekit raced out into the woods.
Rosestar, who was watching with wide eyes, yelled at Rabbitmoon, "Go get him!"
Rabbitmoon ran after his son with a start. The other kits walked out the den and said, "Hey, wait up!" But Rosestar stopped them from coming.
Rabbitmoon followed the little kit's trail. It didn't take him long to catch up with him, because of his short kit legs, so he grabbed his son by the scruff just as he almost collided head-on with a tree.
"Put me down!" His son kicked and struggled, but Rabbitmoon gently set him down.
"Blazekit," his father began with a stern voice, "Why did you run away? It was not smart of you. You could have gotten hurt."
Blazekit looked down. "Just because I'm blind, doesn't mean I'm not careful. My hearing and smelling and touching helps me find my way."
Rabbitmokns eyes widened. He never thought of that, but the kit's other senses could help him. "Yes, but this was your first time in the forest. What if a predator found you? What if a rouge found you? What if–"
"Dad!" Blazekit interrupted with a snarl. "I'm just like the other kits. It's just my sight. I'm not a cat without any legs. I'm not deaf. I am only blind." He took a deep breath and said something that Rabbitmoon would never forget:
"My eyes don't need to guide me, but my heart is all I need."
