Iwakāluakūmākahi
"Okay Rowlet, let's show them what we're really capable of!" Tanyu cried out, crossing his arms sharply, a white aura shrouding his frame as power flooded his body.
This feeling... Tanyu paused as he continued the dance. It's incredible, he thought, going into the next part of the dance, watching as Rowlet's body surged with the same energy, creating a connection of sorts between the two. Finishing up the dance, Tanyu shouted loudly.
"BREAKNECK BLITZ!"
Rowlet screeched loudly and charged forward, the aura encasing his body, shattering the ground beneath him as he rampaged down the warpath towards Hariyama. Putting his palms out to block, the massive sumo was not prepared for the impact he received. An explosion rang out and Hariyama was sent flying out of the ring from the punishing blow he was dealt. Kukui's hand went up to stop the match.
"Hariyama is unable to battle! Rowlet wins! That means that the victory goes to Tanyu Sugimoto!"

Tanyu stood at the edge of the water of the Hao'oli Beach and simply looked out to sea. He glanced down at the new Z-Crystal in his hand, a testament to his skill and proof that he'd overcome the Kahuna of Melemele Island. He had done it. After a week of painstaking training, he had defeated Hala. Now that he had a new crystal, he would need to find a companion with which to exercise it's power. While he was satisfied with his team composition, he knew it wouldn't be enough for the coming trials.
Tomorrow I leave for Akala Island. As usual, mom's reluctant to tell me what I'll be dealing with over there. I guess I should expect that from now on.
"So this is where you ran off to..."
Tanyu took a deep breath and let out a long sigh.
"Hi mom," he replied, keeping his eyes set on the ocean.
"You did well Tanyu," Lydia continued, crossing her arms as she looked out at the ocean with her son. "I'd be lying if I said I wasn't proud of you back there..."
Tanyu quirked a brow and shifted his eyes in her direction.
"I know you probably don't think I mean it. After all...I did up and leave after what happened," Lydia sighed, her brows anchoring into a frown as thoughts of that day flooded her mind.
"But I want you to know that...if you ever need me, I'm here for you," Lydia added, her gaze flickering over to Tanyu as she spoke. "I'm not going anywhere..."
"And how can I be so sure this time?" Tanyu said flatly. "You said that ten years ago, and then a few months later you were gone. Words don't mean much to me anymore mom. Actions speak much louder..."
"You're right about that son. Actions do speak louder. That's why I brought you here," Lydia said firmly.
"And what happens when this is all over? Am I here just for the trials? Are you really going to stick around this time? How do I know?" Tanyu shot back.
"I've been here for ten years Tanyu. That house you are staying in with me? I bought it. I work for the professor's wife as well. My place is here, as is yours if you choose to accept it," Lydia replied calmly.
Tanyu looked away for a moment. Even though she had brought him to Alola, he still couldn't fully bring himself to trust her as much as before. It was something that would take more time to heal. How long it would take, even he didn't know.
"I hear Kukui's taking you to Akala Island tomorrow along with Hau and Lillie. Sounds like the three of you will be on a journey together," Lydia said with a faint smile.
"Yeah...together," Tanyu retorted, not entirely thrilled with the idea, yet at the same time, not disappointed either.
Hau was a good trainer, and could provide him with a decent rivalry. Lillie seemed nice and was easy to talk to. They weren't completely annoying, albeit Hau talked way too much. And then there was that one woman he'd met. Glancing down at his wrists he could still remember the feeling her her foot coming down on them. He also remembered seeing several spheres attached to her waist. She was a trainer as well, and by the looks of things, a darn skilled one at that.
He more than hoped he would meet her again. Not simply because she was a good fighter, but he wanted to see how she battled. During their short scrap, she showed intense concentration and an unwaivering confidence. He could tell she would be just the challenge he needed.
"You don't seem too thrilled," Lydia pointed out.
"Is it that obvious?" Tanyu muttered.
Lydia rolled her eyes and turned towards Tanyu, placing a hand on her hip with a frown.
"I wasn't too keen on the idea of companions either you know?" Lydia said flatly. "With the state I was in, going on an adventure with friends was the last thing on my mind. But as you can see," she said, gesturing to the beauty around them. "It was all worth it if I got to be here. I was able to heal...for the most part."
"That's hard to believe," Tanyu replied, turning his head to face his mother. "You're so different now. If it weren't for the fact that we clearly look alike, I'd have thought you were someone else entirely."
"I almost didn't recognize you either. When I was given a photo of you, well...it was a little hard to look at without the smile there," Lydia added.
"There's not much to smile about when you're in prison, mom..." Tanyu quipped, stepping into the water, relishing the cool feeling it brought.
Lydia opened her mouth to speak, but found no words to combat what her son had just said. He was right. While she wasn't exactly in prison, she had been in one of her own making. Emotional prison. It had been a cold and lonely place until she took the trials.
"It's getting late. Be sure to come home for dinner," Lydia said as she began to walk towards the city.
"What's on the menu?" Tanyu asked, a slight smile crossing his face as he heard his mother's footsteps come to a halt.
"Mago berry curry with spicy tofu and rice," Lydia answered. "Nomel berry pie is the dessert. And yes, the pie is mainly for you."
"I figured," Tanyu smirked. "I'll be home in a few hours. There's just something I wanna do first," Tanyu replied.
"Take your time," Lydia said as she walked away, leaving Tanyu to his devices.
"What the hell bro!?" Plumeria scowled as she walked by an open bathroom door. "Close the door when you do that for Arceus sake!" Plumeria growled, slamming the door as she walked away.
"It's only weird if you make it weird!" She heard from down the hall.
"Taking a dump with the door open is just wrong on all levels!" She shouted back as she stormed away.
Grumbling, she sat on the railing and slid down into the living room, past the broken chandelier. Glancing back at the broken decoration, she remembered when Guzma decided to use it for target practice and hit it with several large stones. He was in a bad mood that particular day. Muttering something unintelligible under her breath, Plumeria swiftly moved over to the living room and took out her phone, scrolling through until she found her music app.
Finding the song she desired, she set the device on it's stand and hooked it up to the speakers. Before long, the beat of a drum resounded, prompting her to ready herself before the song picked up. Taking a deep breath, she began to dance, her hips rotating to the rhythm of the drum in perfect sync. Through a series of fluid arm motions, she began to dance'Ai 'ami, a dance involving little foot movement and the rotation of the hips.
"Yeah! Go sis!" Plumeria heard over the music, causing her to stop.
Shooting one of her 'brothers' a glare, she crossed her arms and tapped her foot impatiently.
"Really Guzma? Again with the interruptions?" Plumeria stated, turning the music off before facing Guzma again.
The white haired youth waved her off with a grin.
"Just came to see what you were up to. I heard that weird hula music you always play. Figured you were dancing so I decided to watch," Guzma added.
"First of all it's Ha'a. Hula was a term it was given during the nineteenth century. Second, what have you been doing all day? I heard the bed creaking in there..." Plumeria frowned.
"Eh, a few of our sisters wanted to play. Who was I to refuse?" Guzma laughed. "It's not new to you either big sis."
"We are not discussing that right now," Plumeria muttered. "That was a few times and he wouldn't stop bugging me," Plumeria huffed.
Guzma shrugged. "So, whatcha doing dancin' at this hour? Let me guess, it's for da kine?"
"Yes. The group has a show on Akala Island in a few days. I need to be ready for it. Which means," she paused, giving Guzma na knowing look, "no interruptions. Now move your okole before it gets to meet my foot."
Guzma put his hands up in protest.
"Fine, fine. No need to threaten, I'm out," Guzma replied, walking back upstairs to his own lair.
Turning the music back on, Plumeria rewound the song and started from the top.
We've been scouting these outskirts for a while and still nothing has shown itself, Tanyu mused, looking around at the quiet grassy territory that was just outside of Iki Town.
"There has to be something useful out-" He cut himself off, his eyes shifting to a fruit tree along the route, "here..."
He could see a yellow tail poking out from behind the tree. Canting his head, he analyzed the tail further, trying to deduce what was hiding behind the tree. From what he could see, it was sitting cross-legged. Curious, Tanyu began to walk toward the tree, circling it until he could get a good look at whatever it was he was seeing. What he spotted, surprised him.
There, sitting under the tree, was what appeared to be an Abra. The body shape was essentially the same, but there was fighting tape wrapped around his fists and feet. His fur coloration was a dull grayish brown while what looked to be his armor, was a reddish clay color.
That's unlike any Abra I've ever seen. Those are martial arts wraps on its fists and feet. That can only mean one thing, Tanyu thought with a smirk, reaching for Rowlet's ball. It's mine!
Another chapter in the books! Tanyu was able to talk to his mother, Plumeria apparently dances and now Tanyu's found an Alolan Abra! Yes, I decided to make it happen since Sun and Moon didn't have them! Just like they don't have other Alolan pokes that they should have. Tanyu's team is going to get more diverse from here on out.
Going back to what happened in Plumeria's scene, the actual term for Hula is indeed Ha'a. It's what it used to be called before it got changed.
Ciao for now!
