"You'll be meeting the kahuna today cuz. He's in charge of giving you your first companion," Kukui grinned.
"No rest for the weary I suppose," Tanyu sighed, stretching a little.
"No worries cuz. It'll be a few hours before ol Hala is ready. I'll come by and get you guys when it's time," Kukui stated with a laugh.
"And we'll be waiting eagerly my friend," Lydia replied happily, turning to her son with a smile.
"We should get going. I've prepared a room for you in my house. Come and relax for a while, the rest of the day is going to be taxing."
"And what do you mean by that?" Tanyu questioned.
"Oh you'll see my son...you will see," Lydia said with a chuckle. "Anyway, shootz Kukui, we'll see you in Iki town in a few," Lydia said with a wave.
"Shootz sistah!" Kukui replied, watching as the mother and son duo exited the airport.

It had been a long two hours since Tanyu and Lydia left the airport. In that process, Tanyu had acquired some new clothing, something his mother insisted on due to the temperatures he'd be dealing with. After making it to his new home, Tanyu and his mother parted ways in the house, Tanyu to his bedroom and Lydia to the living room.
Tanyu entered his new room and proceeded to look around. It was surprisingly spacious and had a decent sized bed with a night stand next to it. A desk sat in front of the window with a chair behind it. Glancing to another corner of the room, he found the closet and slid the door aside. There was plenty of space for storage, something he was appreciative of. The wooden floors was definitely something he planned on making good use of.
With a sigh, he slipped off his socks and tested the smoothness of the floor beneath. Perfect. Relaxing his mind, Tanyu closed his eyes and lowered himself onto the floor into a kneeling position, placing his hands just above his knees with his elbows out. In his mind, he began to visualize one of the Shadow Triad, a group he was very familiar with while in the ranks of Team Plasma. The mental image began to move as Tanyu concentrated.
The image faded from view, just as the members were able to do, only to reappear while aiming a swift punch to Tanyu's face. Reacting quickly, Tanyu shifted his stance and caught the arm, redirecting the force of the attack to work against his mental opponent, thrusting downward, twisting the arm and pressing down with enough force to pin his mental target. Tanyu opened his eyes and ended the mental simulation.
I should get ready to go. Mom said Professor Kukui was going stop by pretty soon. Might as well be prepared, Tanyu thought as he rose up from the floor. Sliding his socks on, Tanyu made his way out of his room and walked into the living room. In the living room, his mother was in a chair, her eyes focused on a book she'd recently checked out from the Library titled; Guardians Of Alola. Looking up from the book, Lydia smiled and set it down after bookmarking her page.
"Well, what do you think? Cozy isn't it?" Lydia beamed, getting a half smile from Tanyu.
"The space is nice. I prefer the wooden floors to the carpet we had in Castelia," Tanyu said with a shrug. "It's really hot though. I guess I'll have to get used to that."
"Ah, yes. No change in temperature, except for the summer time when it gets hotter. We're in the winter season here. It may not seem like it to you, but it's slightly cooler than the norm," Lydia replied with a faint smile.
"Slightly? If this is only slightly cooler, I'd hate to feel what slightly warmer is," Tanyu muttered.
"It gets pretty humid. But that's to be expected when you're on an island," Lydia replied.
"Fantastic," Tanyu remarked, not really liking the sound of the humidity. "So when's the professor-"
"Alola ohana!"
"Supposed to be here?" Tanyu finished with a deadpan.
"Letting yourself in as usual eh cuz?" Lydia smirked, turning to meet the eyes of the professor.
Kukui laughed and shook his head.
"I guess I just got excited, yeah," Kukui grinned. "So, Tanyu, are you ready to come and meet the kahuna?" Kukui inquired.
"Well, I did just fly eighteen hours to get here just for that. So yeah, I'm ready," Tanyu replied with a smirk.
"Shootz! Follow me cousin, adventure awaits," Kukui exclaimed, getting a slight smile from Tanyu.
"Have fun you two, I'll be here if you need me. I have a bunch of things I need to get done, but I'll swing by Iki Town later on," Lydia said with a bright smile.
"Oh we'll be doing plenty of that. Follow me cuz, let's get you started on the adventure of a lifetime!" Kukui added with a grin.
"Now you're speakin' my language," Tanyu replied, shifting this gaze towards his mother, giving her a nod before turning to follow Kukui out of his new home.
As the two stepped outside, Tanyu was greeted by the warmth of the sun. Everything seemed so much more vibrant than where he used to live. A stark contrast to the concrete jungle that was Castelia City, Alola was just plain beautiful. Pokémon calls he'd never even heard before, echoed through the air, filling him with more excitement than before. His thirst for his promised adventure was finally about to be quenched. A sigh expelled from his lips as he thought of all he had to go through for this to happen. Deep down, he knew he didn't deserve this.
"You okay cuz?" Kukui asked, getting a shrug from Tanyu.
"Yeah, I guess. Everything's still sinking in, you know?" Tanyu replied with a slight laugh.
"Rajah dat, I know how that feels," Kukui said with a smirk. "Going to a new place and getting hit with a wave of culture shock isn't easy. But that's what makes it fun! The excitement of learning about new Pokémon, and new moves is what makes it all worth it," Kukui beamed.
Does this man ever not smile? He's been wearing the same grin on his face since the moment we got here, Tanyu thought as he listened to the professor prattle on about battling and having fun. At least this is different than what I had to deal with in Team Plasma. Hardly anyone smiled there, except N. When the guy was even around Pokémon, he couldn't help but smile.
"Anyway cuz, let's get you to Iki Town. Your first Pokémon awaits!"
Tanyu smiled faintly at the professor's enthusiasm. It was going to take some getting used to, but he'd adapt over time. Following the professor, Tanyu marveled at the sights around him as Kukui explained more about the type of Pokémon that lived in Alola. As the two walked along the path of the Hau'oli Outskirts, they heard the sound of a battle taking place.
"Rattata, use Hyper Fang!"
"Meowth, Feint Attack!"
Tanyu stopped dead in his tracks as he saw the ongoing battle. His eyes widened as he witnessed a Rattata standing on two feet, nevermind the fact that it had a black fur coloration and what appeared to be a mustache. What astonished him more, was the fact that the Meowth that it was battling also had a darker fur coat and what appeared to be a more smug default look in its face. It also stood with a more elegant stance than its Kanto counterpart. The biggest shocker was the command for the move Feint Attack.
Tanyu was pretty well versed in the move-pools of common Pokémon, and Feint Attack was not something Meowth could learn! So why could this one do it? The Rattata lunged forth, its jaw unhinging as it sought to clamp down upon the patiently waiting Meowth, only to bite down on nothing but air as Meowth vanished. Tanyu's eyes popped. It really did use Feint Attack! The blow struck home hard, sending Rattata skidding backwards, forcing it to use its claws to regain its footing.
Kukui could see the spark of excitement and intrigue in Tanyu's eyes. This being Tanyu's first rodeo in Alola, Kukui knew Tanyu would be thrilled by the experience he would gain here.
Chee! That look in his eyes. Shootz, it's the same one his mother had when she saw Alolan Pokémon in action. Like mother like son, Kukui grinned, watching as the battle concluded with the Meowth driving the Rattata into the ground with its paw.
"Getting excited, cousin?" Kukui smirked, watching Tanyu's expression as he nodded. "I thought so. Those are Alolan variants of Pokémon that migrated from Kanto."
"Alolan...variants?" Tanyu blinked, slightly confused.
"I guess Lydia didn't explain that to you did she? Ha! That's just like her. Always full of surprises. Well Tanyu, here's how it goes. Meowth was introduced here as a gift to royalty. But due to the spoiling it got from that life, it became real selfish, and full of pride. That's where the change in appearence came in. They became more feral," Kukui added.
"That's quite the tale. But what about the Rattata?" Tanyu queried, getting a laugh out of Kukui.
"See, Rattata got so out of control here, they had to bring in Yungoos to deal with it. But the Rattata got akamai and adapted, becoming more nocturnal, which is why they got a stylin' new look!" Kukui grinned.
"That explains it," Tanyu responded, watching as the two trainer's shook hands and walked off down the trail.
Iki Town, home of Kahuna Hala, was a place where the people of Melemele Island gathered to worship their guardian, Topu Koko. As Tanyu set foot into the town, he saw that there was a battle arena of sorts, right in the center of town. The designs along the side were eye-catching, as were the torches along the sides of the arena.
"Already eyeing the arena eh brah?" Kukui smirked, getting a silent nod from Tanyu. "You'll be getting a turn in that ring soon cuz. Right now, let's just get you a Pokémon first, 'k cuz?"
"Sounds good to me," Tanyu replied, getting a laugh out of Kukui.
"Shootz," Kukui smiled, getting a raised brow from Tanyu.
"What does that even mean?" Tanyu asked curiously.
"It means the same thing as saying 'yes'," Kukui explained.
"Uh huh. Guess I'll have to get used to that," Tanyu shrugged, turning back to the arena with a curious gaze.
Kukui glanced down at the time. "Looks like Hala isn't here yet. Why not go check and see if he's on Mahalo Trail? It's just beyond the town. He usually goes to the ruins to visit with the guardian Tapu Koko," Kukui informed Tanyu.
"How will I know if I've found him? I don't even know what he looks like," Tanyu replied hastily.
"No worries cuz, you'll be able to spot him. He looks like a Kahuna!" Kukui said grinning.
"I-I don't see how that's helpful," Tanyu said as a drop of sweat trickled down the side of his face.
Regardless of the little amount of information he was given, Tanyu decided he would go take a look around anyway. After all, he was going to be living in Alola, so why not get familiar with the surrounding area?
"Alright, I'll be back here in a little bit, assuming I don't get lost," Tanyu added, making his way through the town, leaving Kukui to his own devices while he searched for the Kahuna.
Standing before Mahalo Trail, was a young girl with long blonde hair, fair skin and green eyes. Her attire was primarily white with the exception of part of the bag that she carried which had some black and red on either end. The girl looked up at the trailhead before her and sighed. Suddenly, the bag she held began to shake.
"Hold on a minute you! If you think I'm letting you out for one second, you're mistaken," she growled, causing the bag to shake a little more.
"Pe-e-ew!" Came a noise from within the bag.
"Don't give me that you little troublemaker. If anyone sees you, there's no telling what will happen. I can't risk that," she said firmly. "Besides, why do you want to go visit the ruins anyway? It's dangerous."
"Pe-ee-ew!"
The girl sighed. "Alright, I'll take you. Just-don't try to get out okay?" She pleaded.
Adjusting the bag strap, she forged ahead towards the ruins.
Wow, thought Tanyu as he admired the various different trees that lined Mahalo Trail. Fruit he'd never seen before clung to the branches in clusters. A loud noise, like repeated pecking caught his attention. Nestled in a tree was a Pokémon he didn't recognize at all. It was a small, woodpecker-like Pokémon with black feathers and a red stripe going down the center of its face. It had a sharp beak that was drilling a hole into the bark of the tree.
I wonder what that is, Tanyu thought to himself as he observed the small Flying-type.
"No Nebby! Don't go out there! Come back!"
Tanyu's ears twitched at the panicked sound. A confused expression dawned on his features as he turned towards the sound.
"What was that?" Tanyu said aloud, quickening his pace down the trail to figure out what the cause of the distress was. As he came to end of the trail, he skidded to a halt just before a bridge. Judging from the way the bridge was swaying, it looked as though it had seen better days.
Standing before it was a young girl whose body seemed to be trembling with fear. Looking past her, it was easy to see why. In the center of the bridge was a small Pokémon with a gaseous body that looked similar to that of a nebula. It was by far the strangest sight Tanyu had ever seen, aside from the girl who clearly wasn't dressed for outdoor adventuring. The small Pokémon was being attacked by several Spearow, who were known for their savagery.
I should do something but...that bridge, Tanyu thought, looking at how rickety and poorly constructed it was, it's not safe. That and I can hear running water. There's no doubt we'd be in trouble if it collapsed.
"N-Nebby..." The girl uttered, a distraught look on her face as she attempted to take a step forward. Frozen in fear, she didn't seem to have the courage to rescue her friend.
Screw it. I'm not gonna like this but here goes! Tanyu said as he kicked off, racing past the girl like a rushing wind, the sudden burst of speed causing the girl to hold her hat on her head while her dress rustled in the wind.
Her eyes grew wide as she saw Tanyu began to make his way across the unsteady bridge towards Nebby.
When did-how did he? Where did he come from!? She thought, watching as Tanyu proceeded to shield Nebby from the relentless assault.
Just as Tanyu was about to scoop Nebby up, a loud shriek was heard from above. His eyes widened in recognition of the sound.
Please tell me that's not what I think it is, Tanyu mentally panicked, looking up to see exactly what he'd hoped against.
"FEEAROOOOW!"
Tanyu's head snapped toward the sound. Above him was the fierce evolution of the small birds of prey. The massive Flying-type screeched once more and dove towards Tanyu and Nebby. As it neared, Nebby began to glow with bright azure light. A cry of distress escaped Nebby's mouth followed by a blinding flash of light that shook the bridge and scared off the attacking Pokémon. However, the power that was displayed by Nebby, caused the bridge to collapse, sending Tanyu and Nebby plummeting to the waters below.
Tanyu held his breath as he anticipated the impact. Just as they were about to hit the water, Tanyu felt himself being snatched up and whisked away from danger. After being placed on the ground, he looked up to behold his rescuer surrounded by an aura of electricity. Saying nothing, Tanyu's rescuer blasted off into the sky, the same way it had come, leaving behind a shimmering stone on the ground in front of him.
And there it is! Tanyu has met with Tapu Koko! It's finally starting! Tanyu's crazy adventure is soon to begin. What sort of adversities will he encounter along the way? Well, if you all know me, then you can expect a few surprises. Get ready to throw out the game walkthrough's at some point because they'll ultimately be useless very soon!
