Chapter Two

The eventful night passed but I was hungry and tired. I laid in bed to sleep my hunger away.

The bloodied bed and my even more bloodied dress didn't bother me anymore as sleeping was my priority. As I felt the softness of the pillow and the heaviness of my body, I closed my eyes and finally slept.

I dreamt about a happy place. A tavern to be specific. A place with music, good wine, food, and happy people. Just like a nightclub back at my last life. Anyway...

At that tavern a very lonely person visited and people were picking on him. I didn't see his face because he was wearing a cloak.

I felt a sting on my left arm as if someone pierced me and I immediately opened my eyes.

At the left side of my bed was an old man wearing a black velvet cloak and a pair of round glasses. He was holding a syringe and he seemed to have injected me with something.

I took a look at the syringe and noticed that there was a bit of my blood in there.

The old man gave me a warning glare. Like he was telling me to forget what I saw. As he left I fell asleep again.

When I opened my eyes again, was already night. Despite not having eaten for two days I felt refreshed so I decided explore the mansion.

I opened the big wooden door as quietly as I could and closed it again. Looking left and right in order to remain unnoticed, I made sure to stay silent.

I took a few turns and continued walking to the right when I heard a noise. It was Asher.

His voice sounded clearly through my ears as he was obviously talking to someone. Judging by the voice of the other person, he must have been the old man who injected me and drew my blood.

I approached the wall and placed my ear to hear what they were saying.

"Your grace, the child is suffering from malnourishment and malnutrition."

" What do you mean?"

" This girl may die if she won't eat by tomorrow. I am surprised that she is still alive."

" It can't be! Her cheeks are red and her eyes shiny... Get out of here!"

Surprisingly, I am not normal. This has to be the power of the moon. I thought that I had to investigate this matter but right now I should not be seen.

I crawled into the darkest shadow of the corridor and hid behind a vase as the old man who seemed like a doctor left Asher's study.

The doctor stopped and exhaled the breath he had been holding on to his lungs and said to himself

" This duke... Why would he adopt a child and treat it like a slave?"

This question made my heart skip a beat. It was as if this one question, had crawled out of my head where it was residing all those days.

That person...

This one doctor who knew nothing about me was able to tell my whole situation with just one sentence! As if he was besides me the whole time.

From the day I reincarnated to today. The doctor left and I felt relieved that he didn't see me eavesdrop.

To my surprise I heard steps behind me and I held my breath to make myself as silent as possible. I prayed that whoever was coming this way, wouldn't see me.

I heard the steps getting closer. The person behind me was so close to me that he must have already seen me. Calmly I stood up ready to face the consequences of sneaking out of my room at night.

I turned around and saw Jace standing right in front of me silently. The corridor was was so dark but he should have still noticed me. Despite that, he stood still and kept muttering to himself

" That bitch was not even afraid of me when I tried to kill her... And what was the thing with her eyes? I thought they were green... I should tell father..."

Then he walked past me as if I was invisible and entered Asher's study. I really wanted to hear what they would talk about but I was scared they might find out I listened to them.

I rushed to my room and wrote everything to my diary. After hiding the diary in the locked drawer, I walked towards the bed.

Suddenly I felt dizziness and my eyes were unfocused. My body was too heavy and moving required immense strength.

I used all my strength to stand up but everything went black. I passed out on the floor.

Yet again in this familiar darkness where I can calm down. This place where only me and my thoughts exist while every other noise, burden and person is a mere part of the background.

There was nobody caring about me though so any noise would be yet another hallucination because of the undying hunger I have.

In this limbo between life and death, I was able to see everything. Like I could see my body and the open window...

Even the moon. At that moment I remembered those movies about soul traveling and astral projection etc. and realized that I need to learn about this world.

Then everything went black again and I woke up but this time I was in my bed with a clean nightgown.

Surprised enough, I touched my shoulders with my hands and slided my hands all the way to my legs where the burns should be and felt bandage pressuring my legs.

My eyes widened in realization of the situation. I noticed that it was already morning.

The sun was shining bright and the birds were chirping. The crimson coloured rose spreaded their scent everywhere while they were gracefully growing in the garden.

My hunger took over me while my insides were protesting against not eating.

I thought that although I needed to eat, I wouldn't go eat with them again since my presence is unwelcome. I opened the huge wooden door and walked down the corridor.

At the end of the corridor I met and old looking man who seemed to be a butler. He was wearing the classic butler suit with the tailed coat and the black bowtie.

His face was full of wrinkles and his hair had greyish accents above his ears and at other random places.

When I politely stopped him he looked at me as if I was really a slave, as he scanned me with his cold black eyes. I ignored the improper behaviour and still being polite I asked him to bring me some food at my room.

He nodded his head and immediately left. I returned to my room and waited for the butler to send me my breakfast.

Almost two hours passed and the nobody sent me food. I remembered that life lesson my father taught me in my last life.

If you want something do it alone.

In fewer words, only depend on yourself. I jumped out of the window and went towards the high wall that surrounded the house.

After searching for a few minutes I saw hole big enough for me to escape to the woods.

I went almost a kilometre deep in the woods and collected tree branches from fallen trees. Then with a sharp rock I sharpened and sculpted the branches to make them able to penetrate flesh easily.

Then with a bigger and more flexible branch and with the help of some string I found on my desk, I made a bow. My hands got full of blisters but if I had to choose between blisters and starvation, blisters are my best choice.

I climbed over the tallest tree and waited for an animal to come. After a few minutes a deer appeared and I used my every effort and knowledge in archery I had and finally I caught my first prey.

Weirdly I felt like a wild animal but then my thoughts were disrupted by a wave of happiness and satisfaction that washed over me.

I lit a fire with the rock I used earlier and roasted the flesh of the deer I had just killed. An hour later my roasted meat was ready and I was about to eat.

Suddenly I heard something moving behind the bushes. I grabbed my bow and stayed alert. I groaned warningly

" Whoever is there show up or you'll die"

A person stood up. To be precise it was a boy near my age with black hair and ocean blue eyes who was wearing a grey cloak just like the boy in my dream.

He seemed scared but calm. He looked at the meat I roasted and then scanned my appearance carefully.

" Are you perhaps hungry? "

I told him and he replied with a diffident nod. I offered him half of my meat and told him to sit besides me. Somehow he was pretty much like me.
