Chapter Five
A year has passed since Killion left for the battlefield and my days keep passing by meaninglessly. I still hunt to eat and wear rugs. At night I sneak out of the mansion and practice magic and swordsmanship at the forest.
I crafted my own sword with the help of Speth.
Toren and Jace keep mistreating me in the mornings and Asher avoids me out of embarrassment. I don't interact with the personel of the mansion because I clean up my chambers on my own and I take care of myself.
Today is my birthday. As Kira of course. April 13th. In this world its my twelveth birthday.
On such occasion I have to celebrate. Even if I have to do it alone. I mean this family wouldn't really know my birthday let alone care for it. I made a plan to sneak out at night and go to the festival.
I decided to spend my day studying in the library. I went out of the room and with confident steps I reached to the large library of this mansion.
I went to the very last bookshelf and studied several books about finance, history, maths and philosophy. The books about philosophy look brand new. Like nobody cared about opening them. In a matter of a few hours I had already read the whole bookshelf.
When you hunt to eat, you gain sharp senses and mine were not wrong. I sensed someone behind the bookshelf.
I remained calm and said
" Come out. I know you are here".
I heard slow and confident steps hitting the wooden floor, approaching me in a calm yet confused manner. The person in front of me was none other than Jace. As always his facial expressions betrayed his hatred for me. I mockingly greeted him.
" Hello brother."
" We are not related!"
"What do you mean brother? We may not be biological siblings but still since I am adopted in this family, l am your sister."
"My sister died long ago!"
"This is why you shouldn't stick to the past brother. Anyway! Why are you spying on me? Were you perhaps waiting for the opportunity to tell me that we are not related? Because I can totally keep up with the conversation."
"Nonsense! I... Why are you here?"
" Why do people go to libraries?"
" Answer me!"
" To study... But how does that concern you?"
" Do you even know how to read?"
" Why do you care? If I didn't know would you teach me?"
" Never!"
Jace took a step closer angrily ready to slam me to a wall. I grabbed his neck and got serious.
His body got temse and his eyes got teary. I stepped closer to his ear and with tickling whispers I warned him.
" Don't go too far, If I get serious, It will be ugly."
I felt something liquid reaching my feet and looked down. I saw a light yellow lake getting bigger and bigger as Jace peed his pants.
I let out a satisfactory laugh and left confidently as Jace blushed from the shame. It was already noon so I went to hunt.
I went to the woods and took out my sword. It had a long silver blade with a crescent moon carved on it and a moonstone that decorated the handle.
It looked nothing like a sword a female could have. Only a few women had swords, yet the swords women were allowed to wield were more like daggers.
I was probably the only woman who could handle a longsword like a kitchen knife. Today I killed a wild boar and feasted on it by myself.
Every time I ate wild boars, I thought of Killion. I constantly worried about him and prayed for his well being.
Night came after the lovely sunset and I went to the city secretly. The city was lively and beautiful at night.
People were having fun while dacing to the street music, fireworks were painting the dark night with amazing colours and smiles were distributed on every corner of the streets. I decided to visit a tavern.
I entered the tavern and a little bell rang. Everyone turned around to see who entered. As they saw a girl in rags, they all mockingly laughed and ignored me.
The owner of this place came and kicked me out because I had no money.
Before I left I noticed something familiar. I saw exactly what I saw in my dream a year ago. A boy in a grey cloak sitting alone while others were laughing at him.
This person looked lonely. Even lonelier than me. Not being able to do anything I was about to leave when the owner stopped me suddenly.
" Little girl ...come inside."
"Why?"
"Don't you want to eat?"
"I guess so..."
" Then come."
I went inside and ate the dishes that were served to me reluctantly.
Why wou they let me eat when I don't have money?
I looked at him curiously. Then, I looked around to see where was the lonely boy. He was nowhere to be found. The owner came to ask whether I was satisfied with the food.
"Owner, the food was delicious but I have to ask you something."
"Sure!"
" Why did you feed me when I don't even have a penny?"
"The food you ate was paid by someone."
"If you meet him again please thank him on my stead owner."
I left the tavern and strolled around the city. It was pretty. I celebrated my birthday and was treated to a meal. I went to my last destination.
I went to the highest rooftop of the city and gazed at the moon that was full. It would be great if Killion could celebrate with me. The moon rose to its zenith and I realized it was already midnight.
I had to return home so that nobody would suspect that I went out. I ran and ran until I reached the hole on the wall. I crawle inside and climbed to my room.
I entered through the window and at the moment I went in someone grabbed me by my hair and shoved me against the wall. I felt dizzy and my head was hurting.
I slowly looked up and noticed Toren.
To be precise a furious Toren who was about to send me to hell and drag me back to torture me. His wrinkled with anger face and his clenched jaw were signs that meant danger ahead.
I stood up and touched my head. I took my fingers off my head and saw that there was blood.
I staggered towards Toren and noticed his face softening a bit. I tried to gain support from his left shoulder. He was surprised but motionless. With a hoarse voice he angrily complained.
"How dare you attack and humiliate my brother wench?"
" Haaa?! ...You mean when he peed his pants? He shouldn't underestimate me."
"Who do you think you are?"
"I am your sister and child of this family."
"You will never be our sister!"
"Like it or not I am! Remember that your father gave me that name and I just unknowingly accepted it. I never wanted Silvia's things..."
I felt very dizzy. My legs gave up. I tried to crawl to bed but my hands were far too weak. My head was hurting a lot and my vision was blurry.
Everything went black and distant. My hands gave up too. Then, I gave up too because it was calm. This was a relaxing experience.
The power of silence and peace. I felt like everything that was weighing me down was now non existent. I must have passed out on the floor.
But how?
Why?
I don't know.
I also don't care.
It is very calming here... Dark like me. Silent like my existence yet with distant echoes like my attempts to exist loudly and fearlessly.
I saw a woman. She was beautiful. Like an angel. She had brown hair and green eyes. A gentle smile complimented her face and her skin was flawless and porcelain like.
She looked at me. She extended her thin arm and patted my head. With a sad smile she said
" Poor girl it's not you time yet."
I wanted to talk to her more but a hand kept pulling me backwards. She left me too. I was back to being alone in that darkness.
It was not bad but I kept sinking into more loneliness. Distant voices kept calling someone anxiously.
I feel like I am missing something.
Who are they?
Why do they sound so anxious?
Are they worried about me?
Why so?
Those questions seem difficult to answer.
Suddenly a white tiger appeared in front of me. What a beautiful creature.
Speth.
Who is Speth?
My grimoir.
I am a witch.
I have a special connection to the moon.
"Hello Speth!"
"Nice to see you contractor. Its been a while!"
"How are you here?"
"I am connected to your soul. Don't worry you will wake up soon..."
