ChapterTwo: Acceptance

March 2156

At the same time, Hannah has begun packing up to move to the base near the Parisian fence. She got accepted as a recruit for the Historical Accuracy Division. She knew James, Damon, and Zoe also got accepted.

As she was packing some of her belongings, her mother walked in. She watched Hannah in silence. She turn to grab another item when she saw her mother. Hannah noticed her expression was cold.

She asked, "Mom, what's wrong?"

"What are you doing, Hannah?" she replied with a question.

"What do you mean?"
"You could become a space scientist like our own parents. Or even become a hacker. But no. You're going to join the military just to find the truth about these demons."

Hannah looked away, and said, "I'm one of them, and you know that."

"You're a human. You're not those creatures."

She looked up, and said sternly, "I am human, but I'm also a Hunter. I need to find out the truth about them. I'm their kind, and I won't be fed with the Natives' lies."

Her mother just glared at her. Then she told her, "Look, you're not one of them, and you're not going to join the military!"

"I have to. I need to find the truth. Besides, it's illegal to withhold me from the military."

With that, Hannah quickly added a few more items, stuffed them into her suitcase, and stormed out of her room. She walked up to her car, and got it. She looked back at her house with mixed emotions. She hadn't felt welcomed in her home since she revealed herself to be a Hunter. Her parents refused to accept that she was one of the Natives. Yes, she figured she was still a human, but she also knew was much more than that. She needed to find the truth about the Hunters, even if it meant leaving her disbelieving family behind.

James was in his room, packing up when he got a text from Hannah. She told him that she'll be dropping by his house before heading off to the base. He smiled at the text. He and his mate were ready to find the truth.

As soon as he got the text, he heard a knock on the door. He opened the door, and saw his younger sisters there. During the two-week holiday break from school, he came out to his family as a Bitten, a Normal recently bitten by a Hunter. His family were shocked by this news, but they slowly accepted his new status, his new species. His parents were doctors and anthropologists, and they have expressed curiosity on the Natives. They have been wanting to learn more about them. They figured James would find out eventually, so they allowed him to move forward to join HAD.

James hugged his sisters, and told them, "I'm going to miss you two so much! I promise I'll back soon!"

One of them, Serena, told him, "Bring us pictures!"

He chuckled, "I'll try. I'll try to give you and our fathers the truth about the Hunters."

The girls smiled sadly. Just then, James looked up, and saw Hannah standing there. She smiled at him. He could see she was proud of him. He told his sisters, "Wait for me in the living area. I'll be right there."

The girls whined, and walked away. Hannah hugged James, and kisses his lips. She told him, "I hope we do get the truth."

James sighed, "I hope so. I mean, we're going to be doing time travel. That's a relatively new thing. We could accidently change everything."

Hannah sighed as she tried to reassure him, "Cassie gave me more info on the time traveling stuff. The articles said that we won't be able to because if we did try to change events, everything will still happen because there would be duplicates. We should be fine. We just can't get stuck in the past. Literally."

James nodded, and sighed. Hannah added, "I just hope we'll find the true origins of the Hunters."

"I hope so too. I have to go pick up Damon. He needs a ride to the base."

"I have to pick up Zoe."

James smiled, and gave Hannah a hug. It was going to be a long drive, but they were just beginning their journey towards the truth.

The two soon parted in separate cars. James drove up to Damon's house. He saw him sitting on the steps of his house. His bags were on the grass, which was freshly wet from the rains from the previous day.

Damon looked up when he saw James' car. He grabbed his bags, and walked up to the car. James got out, and helped him put the bags inside. Afterwards, they got inside the car, and James drove off.

After some silence for a minute or two, James spoke up, "I'm sorry."

Damon looked at him through his sun-goggles, and asked, "For what?"
"For judging your kind. I never thought I'd be around your kind, let alone become one. Now? I am a Hunter, and I actually want to learn more about them."

Damon looked away. He remembered when they first met. James was very suspicious of him, but Damon tried to hide that he was a Hunter. He grew up being trained by his parents to act as "normal" as possible. Sure, he's unusual attractiveness would've passed him as a Gen-Mod, but there were no Gen-Mods living in the underground cities. Besides, if there were, they wouldn't look like zombies. They would still look like flawless, over-photoshopped humans.

Damon sighed, "I get why, though. Anyone who was a Normal never knew we existed. We did a good job of blending in and hiding what we really were. Now all thanks to the Native Hunters, our cover has been blown. And of course, everyone is afraid of us."

James also sighed, "We'll we're just getting started. As soon as we get all the facts, we can begin educating everyone about us."

Damon looked out at the window, and said, "That's if both the military and the government will let us."
